I've lived by myself since I was 22, so 30 years. I don't have any system in place and I don't worry about it too much. I'm sure if I didn't come to work someone would check on me and I try to keep my cell phone near, but nothing besides that. I always think that I'm going to die alone and my cats will eat my body. At least I won't have to worry about them being fed for awhile. I hear dogs will wait until they are near starving to death but cats have no moral compass- they start eating immediately. I do check on my 79 year old father if he hasn't returned a text in a couple of hours. I live in the same condo development and I have a key for his place and he has a key for mine.

My ex-husband and my husband's brother both lived alone when they passed. Both were found because of wellness checks. DD called the police for a wellness check when the kids couldn't get hold of their father. BIL had a heart attack. When he didn't return DH's call (we lived 8 hours away), DH called for a wellness check.
Have a system. DH called BIL twice a week. BIL always called him back as soon as he could. When he didn't, we knew something had happened.

I have to say that I’m a little amused reading this thread because wasn’t it only about a week ago when a Pea was roasted because her DH checked in with his mom every day? I pointed out that many people check in with their parents daily to make sure they’re ok, and this thread is proof of that. DH and I regularly check in on several friends who live alone or who are getting older. He jokingly says when he calls that he’s doing his “weekly wellness check” LOL. I check on my two single brothers pretty much every week. They’re both around my age but as others have noted stuff can happen at any age.
