I stamped a bunch of small images on some lightly textured brown cardstock and made cards. A few weeks later I went to photograph them for my shop and the watermarks have all soaked into the cardstock/faded out into smudges. If you click the tiny right arrow in this IG photo link you should be able to see the before image as well Instagram link
Luckily I think it still looks OK, even though it's different than my original intention. At first I was just confused wondering what patterned paper that was I had used... it looks like a tone-on-tone smudgey thing now. I had very mixed results using versamark for watermark stamping way back when I first tried it, so I stopped trying to use it that way. But recently I saw Vicki P or someone do it and it looked so good I thought I'd give it another go. I would've been really upset if I had gotten these listed right after I made them and then found this had happened when someone bought them. I guess I was lucky! I guess if I had clear heat embossed them it would have stabilized the versamark and prevented this problem. Is it the textured cardstock that made this happen? Any advice you can share would be appreciated. ETA: the white box isn't something missing. I just hit a wrong button and couldn't get rid of it.

It's not something I've noticed myself joblackford but then I mostly use versamark for embossing rather than tone on tone stamping.

I still think it’s really cute but wow... that’s quite a different look. I’ve never done this technique before so I can’t comment on any results I’ve had but I certainly get what you’re saying.

I think this is why I've moved away from Versamark for anything but embossing or getting a tricky stamp to grab ink. Like you, I've had this happen more than once and on different card stocks (although it seems worse on some than others). My current kraft card stock seems fiber-y and porous and it's definitely terrible on that. I just bought 100 lb. Neenah Desert Storm - I should try that one out.
To get this tone-on-tone look now, I will resort to an ink that matches the card stock.

Great cards. Very cute.
I know that VersaMark doesn't like white core cardstock, but I'm guess that isn't what you used.

Did you heat set it at all?

The only time I have had this happen was on kraft card stock. It happened on several different brands of kraft, so maybe it has something to do with whatever goes into that type of paper. I also have had it "blur" outside the original stamp parameters on several shades of dark Stampin Up cardstock. So, it is a technique I not longer use as my results can be hit or miss.

Wow! That is a huge difference!
I have used Versamark a few times in the past, but I don't remember it doing that. I think I used it on a scrapbook page, but going through all the albums trying to find which page I did might take a bit longer than I want to do.
I do wonder if the textured paper had something to do with it, but I don't know. I haven't used Versamark enough. When I have used it, though, I didn't emboss it or heat set it.
That would really be disappointing.

Did you heat set it at all? I've had it bleed and that's why I started heat setting it. I didn't heat set it at all. I might have to do an experiment if I have any scraps of this cardstock left and test heat setting and clear embossing. Thanks all for taking a look and reassuring me that the card is still cute.

Yes the card is very cute!! And even though the images faded it did add a neat detail! I just tried it this morning one with heat and one without on Stampin up paper. Its only been an hour but the one thing I have noticed is the heat set side is lighter. I didn't even know not heat setting Versa mark was an option.

I'm not sure if it would help at all, but does your Versamark pad need to be reinked? Cute card!!
