I really like forums like this where you can protect your real identity. Is it me, but it seems like support forums and group forums are everywhere now - but through Facebook which requires your real identity. I’m on a number of private Facebook groups for cancer support. I don’t plan to get a job anytime soon, but it seems like a potential problem for me that anyone may be able to tell that I’m a member of those groups, therefore a cancer survivor.
In some ways, it seems the Facebook way of using real identities may encourage to be kinder than when their real identity is revealed.
What resources are there for more anonymous, yet supportive groups? How do we address the need for support and need for privacy? Or is privacy just basically out the window these days??

Can say your friend list see the private groups you are in? I belong to a couple groups that interest me, nothing i'd care if anyone knew about...but if they can see it they can join it too - no privacy.
I do like groups like this where you can be as anonymous or not as you choose. I also like the pace and variety of the board.

a secret group - no one can see that you belong or see your posts unless they are also a member (this is my preference for FB groups - downside is that you have to be invited - you can't request to join since you can't see the group)
a closed group - no one can see your posts unless they are also a member but they can see that you belong
a public/open group - anyone can see everything (no privacy)

I have two facebook accounts. One is my real identity with real people I personally know. The other is my middle name and married last name which is superduper common. No one I know personally is a friend. I use it for games and those groups I may not want associated with my real identity for whatever reason.
