Came home and unloaded our car only to realize that I left these metal straps for wood in the shopping cart. Of course it wasn't worth the drive back to the store and the store didn't find them by the time I called. It wasn't much money, but I could still kick myself for being so careless. Have you ever left anything behind in your shopping cart?

Once - a 12-pack of soda that had been put on the rack underneath by the bigger. I never put anything there because it's a pain to reach under and get it out. I didn't remember it at first and by then it was gone from the cart. I was pissed about the wasted money, but there wasn't anything I could do; my fault for not noticing it was on the bottom rack.

My notebook, but it had a lot of financial information so I was panicky on my 17 mile drive back to Wal-Mart. So happy to get it back.
I've found 2 canes in shopping carts. Always hoped the owners remembered where they had left them.

I usually take my little dog with me when I go to Home Depot. I have this awesome little bed that I put in the child’s seat for him. The bed is super full and soft and has a draw string around the edges to adjust the size of it. My dog snuggles down inside and I adjust it to make him cozy and he will ride in a cart for hours happy as a clam.
After one such trip I had been home for about an hour when I suddenly flashed on the bed. Did I leave it in the cart? I ran out to the car and it wasn’t there. I drove back to Home Depot and was going to ask at the help desk when I walked by a large trash bin. Sticking out of the little window area of the bin was one of the pompoms that are on the end of the drawstrings. Had that trash bin not been full enough for the bed to be sitting at the top, and had that pompom not been sticking out, I wouldn’t have thought to check it. I grabbed it out of the trash bin and went home and tossed it in the wash.
I had never found another bed like that one and didn’t care whether I was seen sticking my hand into the trash to retrieve it. Then about 6 months after that happened, I saw another drawstring bed just like it at the pet store. I now have a backup just in case I am absentminded enough to leave it again. I know a dog bed doesn’t sound like a big deal, but my dog loves snuggling down into it when I shop, and I like taking him with me to the stores that allow it.

I’ve never left anything behind but I was a grocery bagger all through high school and recovered many items when I pushed carts. People leave all sorts of things behind. Groceries, purses, cell phones, etc. I always took it inside to the courtesy desk and 90% of people came and picked stuff up.
People also try to hide stuff on the lower portion of the cart to avoid paying for it. A regular middle aged dad tried to steal a bunch of beer by hiding it under his cart, but I mentioned it to the cashier and all was well. He paid for it but he was embarrassed. He tried hiding it by putting towels around the beer.

Not in the cart but at the register. It's always the squishable stuff that they move out of the way so it won't get damaged.

Left my purse twice in the shopping cart @ Walmart 1 1/2 hours away. This Walmart was in a sketchy area. Both times it was turned into customer service. Pain in the butt to drive an additional 3 hours to retrieve it.

I once left a small bottle of heavy whipping cream that I needed for a recipe in the cart. I had put it in the drink holder of the small cart so it would stay upright, but of course forgot about taking it when I transferred the bags to the car. I discovered it was missing when I got home and went back to the store right away, receipt in hand. The store is close by, and it'a a good thing I went back so soon, because someone was just taking that cart out of the cart trolley (like a good pea I returned my cart to the trolley, LOL!), so I said "Excuse me, this is mine - I accidentally left it in the cart", and retrieved it. It was still cold, so we both just had a laugh about it and went our separate ways.
Now, forgetting something in the CAR after bringing groceries in the house is another matter altogether...I once left a can of frozen OJ concentrate, and of course you know what happened. It popped open as soon as it thawed and dribbled sticky OJ all over the floor of the car, and then it started fermenting before I found it - ugh! It was a mess but didn't smell nearly as awful as when I did the same thing with a can of refrigerated biscuit dough - yikes, that one was a huge mess and smelled horrid!! Both times it was a can that had rolled out of the bag and under the back seat of my minivan, so no one saw it when unloading the groceries. We only found it later, either when the can rolled out, or we smelled the results - YUK!

My mom once left her cane on the cart and we had to rush back after it before the store closed. Was with my cousin when she left her purse in the cart. I don't recall fiirgetting anything in the cart, but I have ever forgotten things and left them in the car.

I once left a brand new iPad in a cart at the grocery store cart corral. I rushed back to the store about an hour later and it was waiting for me in customer service. One of the baggers had turned it in.
One thing I loved about that grocery store was that they generally hired mentally disabled employees to work as baggers. I tracked down the manager and told him what the bagger had done. I gave the bagger a little cash reward after getting the manager’s approval to do so.
I noticed the next month the bagger was named the employee of the month!

I left my grocery wallet in a cart once (wallet with grocery money and coupons), but luckily someone turned it in.
I haven't left anything in my car that I can remember, but I did miss a little wedge of Maytag blue cheese in once of my reusable bags one time and it wasn't found until a week later when the bagger opened the bag and got a whiff of it! Usually I forget to take the cheese out of the cart because it blends in with the metal cart.

I found a kid in a shopping cart once...that count? Lol 😱 how does someone leave their kid behind like that??? I was coming out of WM a few years back and I unloaded my stuff into car and brought the cart to the corral place (because I'm a good Pea like that LOL 😉) and there was this kid just hanging out there in the cart. I'm horrible with ages on kids but he had a diaper on but was way too big for a carrier so I'm guessing maybe he was 2? I stood there thinking maybe the parent was coming back..5mins ago by and no one was coming and it was hot as hell so I took the kid and put him into my car with air on called the cops and they came..asked me what happened I explained..then guess who shows up? The mother. Mom is freaking out because she was "so stressed out and she thought she put him in his car seat" but pissed off that I called the cops and starts yelling me at saying she was only gone for not even five mins. Complete 100% lie. At this point I'm about to lose my shit on this chick. Long story short..I left and cop had my info but I never heard anything else from it.

I hope the cop took it seriously and got the boy to a place he'd be safe--and have the mom checked out at a hospital or something before she got him back! That is pretty incredible.

I'm another that managed to leave my purse in the cart at Publix and went home. Started looking for my phone first...realized it was in my purse. But oh, where is that? Called my phone expecting to hear it ringing somewhere in my house or car. Nope, it was answered by customer service at Publix. An employee retrieving carts from the parking lot had brought it in. I DO love Publix. Couple of months ago, I was at the same Publix, MY Publix. You Florida people will understand the "MY Publix" part. Grabbed a cart from just outside the doors and someone's big old wallet was sitting right in the front basket area. I turned it in at customer service and thought, "That lady is going to be as giddy with relief as I was."

Last week I found some metal straws I forgot to pay for in the cart when I was loading my stuff at Target. Made a quick run back inside as they were one of the things I specifically went there to get.
I once drove off without my ENTIRE cart of groceries; this was back in the day when carts weren't allowed in the parking lot. Thankfully, I remember within minutes; a quick turn around at the first light and I was back loading my cart into the car in no time.
