The family requested no flowers and asked if anyone wanted to do something, to please make a gift to the church where their late son worked. We're happy to do that.
I did a search but haven't found my exact answer yet. Do I send the check directly to the church? Do I include it in a sympathy card for the family? If I send it to the church, do I write a letter or just write a few lines on a note card?
This event was horrific for the family and I don't want to mess this up. Thanks in advance for any help.

I would send a sympathy card to the family with a note--if you want--that a donation was made in his name

Thank you! We are on our way to the church for the funeral. Is it okay to put in an envelope with a note card with a few lines that says something like "please accept this gift in memory to <man's name>"?

The family doesn't need another thing to deal with right now. (Ive Been in that situation before.)
