We went to the number one restaurant in the area according to Trip Advisor when we took a ride today.
We both got the same thing, linguini with red sauce and some fish.
I like my pasta al dente (not mushy and sort of underdone) and just a little red sauce, not thick; I like it almost watered down.
When we got it, it had A TON of thick red sauce completely covering the pasta (with chunks of tomatoes, onions). It was steaming hot when they brought it and was still steaming 10 minutes later.
My husband really liked it a lot (like about 90% of the people that reviewed it--over 2000 reviews). I guess I like my carbs "naked."
Plus I'm pretty sure the sauce continued to cook the pasta because it was so hot/thick and so much of it.
So how do you like your spaghetti/linguini, etc?
I thought that "real Italians" had the pasta as the "star" with not a lot of sauce.
BTW this was just a medium priced place, nicer than a pizza place but not fancy. It is a family-owned place that has been in business "forever." The service was very friendly and excellent.

I'm with you...if there is a lot of sauce there better be a whole lotta pasta underneath.

Not a fan of a lot of sauce. I like thin and a light coating over the pasta. If I know that a certain restaurant is heavy handed in the kitchen I’ll ask for sauce on the side so I can pour it on myself.

I like enough for the pasta to be covered, but it doesn't have to be drowning in the sauce.

I don't like a ton of sauce, and definitely not if it's a thick heavy sauce.

I guess I like somewhere in the middle. I don't like too much sauce, especially on filled pastas, because then you can't taste the filling very well. And I actually don't really love tomato sauces; I like alfredos or a creamy tomato sauce. But I do appreciate some extra sauce so that I have something to scoop up with my garlic bread.

There better be enough sauce for me to need some good bread to mop it up with.

I’m a saucy chick. But I rarely get red sauce. I prefer Alfredo or a pesto sauce usually.

I loves lots of sauce. Not red sauce but white or lemon/wine is good.

There is no such thing as too much sauce in my book.

Yes, I do like a lot of sauce. Whenever we have gone to noodles and company I have had to ask for extra. Really I think they wave a spoon full of sauce over the pasta and whatever spills is all you get.

I do not like a lot of sauce. I actually don't like sauce any more. I prefer a light coating of olive oil, pesto, or something similar. I don't mind tomatoes but not tomato sauce.
I used to like pasta. I've gotten to a point where I eat very little of it while every one else is eating a large helping. I can't have cream based sauce anymore.

I eat pasta until I hurt sometimes. I love pasta. I love sauce. I love lots of sauce, but I love lots of pasta equally. I don't really discriminate.

I don't like tomato based sauces. I prefer a lemon butter sauce and I like for the sauce to pasta ratio to be more towards the pasta.

I love sauce! I try to reduce my carbs, so only eat about 1/4 cup pasta. I tell myself the veggies in the sauce is good for me. I can’t have dairy, so it’s only red sauce for me.

I love a lot of sauce, unless it’s supposed to be a “lighter” sauce that’s mostly oil based or similar.

For me it depends on the sauce and my mood I think I used to like lots of sauce and now I’m more of a good balance.

I dislike any and all Italian food but if I'm somewhere and I'm served say pasta and sauce I will eat it so I'm not being rude but I will ask them to just put light sauce. I think that's one of the biggest reasons I dislike Italian food is the red sauce...well any sauce really.

Pasta is not that thrilling to me. It doesn't have a lot of taste and as a diabetic I can do without the carbs. So I only want enough pasta to give the food item a foundation. I'm all for the sauce spilling over the edges of the foundation! I actually prefer spaghetti squash over pasta because it's better on my sugar and has more flavor, but I don't like the work it takes. If I go to a restaurant I almost always ask for more sauce, especially if it is a lighter marinara.

I do like a lot of sauce. Especially if it’s a meat sauce. I think I would feel irritated if my pasta was served to me with only a little bit of sauce.

Yes yes yes! The more sauce the better! It needs to be drowning in sauce. Whenever DSO cooks pasta he puts in WAY too much pasta so there is nowhere near enough sauce for my liking. Last week I mentioned that there was too much pasta and not enough sauce, and he said "Yeah I cooked too much pasta and didn't want to waste it so I put it all in the pan." Dude, pasta is like $1 a pack - it's hardly going to break the budget if you have to throw out 20 cents worth!

I don’t trust TripAdvisor ranking, I think there’s a way to cheat the system. That said, it doesn’t mean everyone else got the same dish as you.

No I don’t like a ton of sauce on my pasta, and I don’t like it really thick either. I do like a tomato sauce, rather than an Alfredo or pesto sauce.

Not with tomato based sauces. At home, I just put a little sauce on my pasta which is why I don’t like to mix the pasta with the sauce. In restaurants I usually order manicotti or an Alfredo sauce and then I don’t care if there is a ton of sauce.

I don’t eat pasta anymore, but I am not ready to give up on that taste. I discovered the spiral zucchini and have used spaghetti squash forever.
Since there is no actual carb in there, I like a ton of sauce, and I load the sauce full of vegetables. In fact, I spent yesterday roasting up onions, tomatoes, red peppers, carrots, mushrooms, and asparagus in anticipation of making my fake pasta a few nights this week. And after all that roasting, doing several batches of each vegetable to give me some for now and some for the freezer, I was too pooped to make the zucchini for dinner. I ended up just filling a bowl of the various things that I roasted, adding a bit of cheese on top and calling that dinner. So I guess I had an all sauce supper.
