My DH snores and it is driving me crazy. It used to be that he would snore when on his back so I would tell him to roll over and it would help. But now he snores no matter how he is laying. He goes to bed before me and I have a really hard time getting to sleep. I’m also a light sleeper and wake up frequently and can’t get back to sleep if he is snoring. Does anyone have tips for either ending the snoring or helping me to deal with it and get some sleep? I am hesitant to wear earplugs because I still want to hear the kids if need be. He does not wake up for anything.

Has he been to the doctor and had a sleep study done?

I don't know but if you find something let me know because I'm in the same boat, exactly. Except for the ear plugs, I wear them, but they don't help.
I'd need like headphones I see people wearing at race car tracks, but them I couldn't lay on my side. Hmmm.

I totally understand, Dh snored, dd thought sleeping was an optional activity. I was exhausted, dh was too because his sleep was not restorative. Dh ended up having an operation to deal with his snoring. That sorted the issue, everything else we did beforehand was like papering over a crack.

He needs to have a sleep study to check for sleep apnea.
Good luck getting him to go...

Has he been to the doctor and had a sleep study done? Yes, this! I am the one who snores and dh is so happy that I now use a C-Pap. You and dh may not think it is necessary to get it checked out, but believe me it will be worth it. You need your sleep and I'm guessing your dh is probably not getting the best quality sleep either. One of the best things I have done for my dh.

He needs to find out WHY he is snoring. All the tricks and gadgets won't cure the problem - they will only mask it for awhile.
Good luck - here it is a cold and wintery morning at 5.00 am and guess who is up because I was woken and could not go back to sleep because of snoring?

He needs to get a sleep study done. My DH was the same way, he only snored on his back but then he got worse and snored all the time. He would keep me up and shake the bed from his tossing and turning. He was diagnosed with sleep apnea and is so much better using his CPAP machine.

I am the snorer. For those that use a cpap, is there any chance of getting off of it? I keep thinking if I lose weight it will get better, but it sounds like this may be a life thing.

This is when it is handy to have a guest room. DH has a CPAP after his sleep study. He wasn't willing to go until a couple of friends convinced them the CPAP changed their lives. It is amazing the number of people we know with CPAPs these days. DH also lost 50 lbs last summer and no longer snores when he falls asleep watching TV. ETA chances, DH isn't using his CPAP all the time anymore. He still snores a bit, but doesn't seem to have the sleep apnea/breathing stops that he used to have. I'd love him to do another sleep study but he isn't interested.

Mine will stop if I kick him (not hard. Just a little jolt). Or if I roll him over.
But what really helped was him losing about 70lbs. He almost never snores now. 😁

Mine wears the nose strips, does a nasal inhaler, and sleeps on his side (usually). All of these things help, but done't eliminate it entirely though.

CPAP machine - best. thing. ever. I had no idea that snoring was indicative of a serious problem. DH got his machine a few months ago and loves it, he sleeps so much better and longer without wanting to get up. I certainly sleep better too. He finds the mask comfortable and the machine is very quiet.

Two of my BFFs have sleep apnea and use CPAP machines. They are a lifesaver. Literally and figuratively. They can save your DH's life because you can die from sleep apnea and figuratively because not enough sleep is torture. It wrecks your entire day the following day if you don't get enough sleep. Sometimes I have to nag one BFF to use hers. She is pretty good about using it, though.

A pillow placed gently over spouses face and then pressed down with additional force as needed until snoring stops. Works like a charm! 😉

My DH snores SO loud. I can hear him downstairs. He has a "Silent Night" made by the dentist, but that only made a slight dent, and only when he remembered to put it in before falling asleep. He also jerks his legs most of the night. He doesn't exercise and eats a lot so he is at his heaviest weight and doesn't seem to think he's unhealthy. I wake myself up enough needing to pee so between that and him I wasn't sleeping. I now have my own bedroom with a white noise machine and it's awesome!

I totally understand. I am rudely awakened almost every night it's so loud and obnoxious. And, I am the snorer! Actually my husband thinks it's only me but sometimes it's him. Neither of us is overweight. I have been cleared of all medical causes. I know it's worse during allergy season. I try to sleep on my side and I prop a beaded travel pillow under my neck so my chin stays up. That seems to help. Good luck!

My husband denied that his snoring was an issue until a friend mentioned that it had kept him up when we shared a cabin while vacationing together. He still didn’t believe it was that loud until he recorded himself snoring with a phone app.
Since he got his Cpap we both get a good nights sleep

Same w/ my DH, snoring and the CPAP. Does your DH get a lot of headaches? Mine was and it was related to the sleep apnea/not getting enough oxygen.

My boss used a CPAP for years. He had weight loss surgery two years ago. His sleep apnea and his diabetes are both gone now because of the weight loss.

I put earbuds in and fall asleep watching whatever show. DH usually goes to bed after I do now, though. I also snore, and probably could used a sleep study...

Sleep apnea is a very serious medical condition, not just a nuisance. When left untreated it is very hard on the heart and can cause a stroke, among other issues. Please have him do a study.
My DH uses a CPAP, and due to his malformed sinuses the breathe right strips help him as well.
As for the pea who asked about being on CPAP all their life? It varies for everyone and depends on the cause. If your neck circumference due to weight is the cause, which is common, then losing weight may be all you need. But don't just take yourself off the machine, check with your sleep doctor first!
