"It’s too soon to tell whether America will survive Trump in any recognizable form. But if it does, it will be because women like Gabriel have realized that no one is coming to save democracy for us, and they have set out to rescue it themselves. It’s no secret that American women dislike Trump; a recent poll showed that 57 percent of all female voters disapprove of him, 43 percent strongly. But polls can’t capture the way gut-churning revulsion toward Trump is changing some women’s whole way of being in the world. You see it in the large number of women running for political office and winning. But you also see it in the women, many of them suburban, middle-aged and not particularly radical, who are making political activism the center of their lives." www.nytimes.com/2018/07/02/opinion/women-democratic-party-grassroots-trump.htmlDear lord. The NYT talked to some non-Trump supporters. How will we ever know what Trump supporters care about? And who cares what exhausted moms need?

Well, white women REALLY fucked it up in 2016, so I hope that tide is turning.

Well, *SOME* white women REALLY fucked it up in 2016, so I hope that tide is turning. There, I fixed that for you. Not all of us were riding the trump train. I was horrified when he won. Or maybe I should say “won” in air quotes because whether it was legit or not still remains to be seen.

This story is heartening. And, I will say that I have seen more people be politically VOCAL. Now being vocal and taking action are two different things.
Some things that are helpful are to donate money and/or time to local progressive candidates, call existing Republican congresspeople/senators (only your own, please, other calls aren't tallied) and express your opinions, support other progressive organizations like Planned Parenthood.
I've done some donating and plan to help with voter registration when we go back to school.

I hear you, SockMonkey and plan to do the same. My time is pretty limited these days, but a little effort from a lot of people can and does add up.

oh dear, yet another "I hate Trump thread."
43% of women, by your "study" like Trump so your comment "women don't like Trump" is wrong. Crazy, purple vagina hat wearing women don't like Trump. And that's fine. Real American women are embarrassed for those so-called "women".

But the people wearing their costumes and hats don't seem to know that, sweetie. I saw pink, purple, lime green and orange vaginas at the women's marches. Maybe you should let them know that vaginas are pink.

I'm so glad we're on to substantive issues like the color of vaginas. What else would we expect from our resident thread derailer?

Hey, it's your people that are out there doing these things. This is what "they" consider important in the women's marches.

I am keeping it up and by the way, I usually wear black to marches because a small part of this boring suburban mother wants to arrested on suspicion of anarchy. Wearing Black? Maybe you should let them know that vaginas are pink. And maybe you should worry that your party is aligning itself with Nazis and Klan members instead of the color of women’s hats, but okay. Go off.

That stupid cat was always pulling its shit out of its litterbox and leaving it in places where it didn't belong. No one liked that cat and it left an unmistakable stench wherever it went. I'm sure there's a moral in there somewhere.

Hey, it's your people that are out there doing these things. This is what "they" consider important in the women's marches. I can’t decide if you are just being stupid or obstinate. You really aren’t that dumb that you missed the whole pussy hat connection to Trumps words. Are you? You really don’t get it? Really? I’ll get out my crayons for a picture or I can just link you to some explanatory porn. I know you absolutely know how ignorant your comment is and you wish to start a fight on our “quiet” thread but I’ll give you some doubt and offer an explanation if necessary. PM me. Cause no way the rest of this board is that stupid and misses the connotation. You really went to college? And you missed the symbolism? English is your first language and you missed it? You must have been in a coma as it was explained over and over and over again. You’ve never flown a flag? Worn a T-shirt with a message or mascot? You really don’t get it? I’ll be on a plane for a few hours and can dedicate it to you understanding the symbolism of the hats. Just you let me know exactly how you are playing this day. Have some humility in yourself and let me know ignorance or obstinate. It will be my pleasure- literally.

What's pretty amazing to me is that I've been to 2 women's marches in 2 years and have yet to see an actual anatomically depicted vagina hat or clothing except in photos. Am I hanging out with the wrong tens of thousands of women, men and concerned citizens?
I can tell you that MANY white women church friends I know voted Trump because there was no way they'd vote for Hillary and that all important Supreme Court seat. For some it was also merely about their bottom line. They felt he would somehow make their pay higher and improve their quality of life.
As for me, the entire time he was 'running' I thought this had to be some punked reality show. And his horrid behavior prior to running and during the campaign process cemented me as a Never Trumper. After seeing how so many elected Republicans continue to back him and fall in lockstep as he daily tramples upon the Constitution, I not only did not vote for him, I changed parties. This isn't the progressive Republican party that was instrumental in so many great things for our country. It's a party that's been hijacked by far right interests and big money. Never again will I vote for one.
So yeah, the opinion piece is a bit of hope I'll hold onto.

As a white woman I fully accept that I am partly responsible for the mess that we are in. Yes, I’ve donated, made calls, and marched since the election but that was reaction to the damage already inflicted. In the days leading up to election did I sit down with my moderate friends that might have voted either way and give my reasons for supporting Hillary and ask that they do the same? Did I try to combat the sea of misinformation I saw friends and family regurgitating? Did I do my part to encourage everyone in my circle to get to the polls, offering rides or childcare or covering at work to eliminate any barriers? These are the lessons I’ve learned for next time. It wasn’t white women that prevented Roy Moore from becoming a senator and I haven’t forgotten that.

Hey, it's your people that are out there doing these things. This is what "they" consider important in the women's marches. Loveyocolor on a serious note so much of Trump’s agenda and personal being is anti-women. He shows so little respect for them, insults and belittled them so it’s hard for many of to understand how any woman, regardless of political party can vote for him. I’m not interested in devolving into name calling with you. It’s unproductive and our country is in real danger. If you have a daughter I urge you to look closer at this man and this Congress’s agenda regarding women please.
