We will be moving to this area for my husband's new job. I have never been here before. Any tips on good areas to live, areas to avoid? We have been looking at the Ponte Vedra area because they have a good high school. We still have one kiddo at home, who is not happy to be moving.
Thanks for any info you can provide!

I live in St Johns County. I have 2 kids that will be seniors this year. How old is your high schooler? My children go to different high schools because this county has academies available for study (I.e., finance, IT, IB, communications, architecture, ROTC). Our high schools are at capacity and no new ones are in the near future. Do you have time to visit the area?
Ponte Vedra is nice and close to beaches. Mostly affluent families. Many of our neighborhoods have HOA and CDD fees. Do your due diligence and ask about the rules in the communities you are interested in. Everything from garbage cans to street parking to fishing in the ponds.

He will be a freshman. We are hoping to fly down this weekend to check out the area. We will probably rent at first while we wait for our house to sell in TX.

I'm about 90 min. west of Jax. I'll ask DD18 if she has any school reccommendations - she was on an academic team in high school that played against other high schools.
She suggested Ponte Vedra or Neese High schools - she said they both have good academic teams and that Ponte Vedra's campus is gorgeous. Clay county is also good, she says.

Thank you for the info! Our biggest concern is a good high school. He is very smart and I want to make sure he is challenged. We are in a very good school district here and I hate to leave it.

He will be a freshman. We are hoping to fly down this weekend to check out the area. We will probably rent at first while we wait for our house to sell in TX. Make sure you rent in the zone you want to attend because since our schools are at capacity, you will have to stay in the zone for your home unless he applies and is accepted into an academy. Academy applications for the 18-19 year have already been closed. I am not sure if there are exceptions for new students. Maybe our district website can offer some Academy information. www.stjohns.k12.fl.usOne of my children is at Nease and the other is at Bartram Trail. Both schools have their strengths and weaknesses. But, both are academically challenging and offer AP classes, online classes and dual enrollment. I have no experience with Ponte Vedra High but I am positive it is an equally great school with similar offerings. It is the newest of high schools and is a beautiful campus. Check out the Nocatee area. There is A LOT of growth building going on right now in this part of the county.

Yes we are going to rent in the area we want to buy so he doesn't have to change schools. I'm really hoping we can fly down this weekend to check it out.
