OMG ! That really is disgusting. We have 2 Labrador retrievers and pick-up poop, usually twice a day. POOP PATROL !

My dog won’t poop in the backyard any longer. She’s gotten weird in her old age (15). But in previous years, yes we would pick up before mowing. After winter was the worst when all the snow melted and there were landmines everywhere. There are landscape companies here that advertise cleaning up your backyard after the snow melts. Gives them business in the off season. What a genius business concept! I would be VERY tempted to use that if we had a dog.

I have 6 dogs and we always pick up poop before mowing. I do have a company that comes out once a week and pooper scoopers for us. That really helps since my kids aren't around to help anymore and we have a huge yard.

We pick up the poop twice a week and never mow over it. That's gross!
If we are out walking and Stella poops we pick it up. I get so mad when I see people out with their dogs and they don't pick up the poop.

There was a large pile of poo at the bottom of our deck stairs the other morning. It was on the cement. Neither of my dogs are capable out that kind of output. It was either a small bear, coyote, mountain lion, bobcat, or an enormous fox. Whatever it was, it had no manners and neither of my dogs wanted to go down the steps that day. Gross!

I teach the boy to not go in the lawn but rather along field or elsewhere. (country/free range dog)
He has to be reminded sometimes come spring after not wanting to always venture far through the snow. Can't say I blame him.
But yeah, pick it up if there.

I have two dogs and I’m still amazed at how much they do both in the yard and on walks. I pick it up at least twice a day otherwise they run through it and track it into the house. I always make sure it’s picked up before mowing. Who wants Dog shit all over the mower that gets put back in the garage?

We pick up twice a day and before mowing. Never noticed a lingering poop smell when the grass is cut. We do get some weeds that smell like a wet dog when they are mowed over though!

We pooper scooped daily or at least every other day. If there was a problem that made the poop too unstable to scoop--then we used the water hose and watered it into the grass. No flinging poop bombs over here.

Ew, that is so gross. We taught our dog to poop on the shredded bark border in our backyard, I think pooping in the grass is disgusting, even when it gets picked up. We go out barefoot on our back lawn a lot.

In summer I pick up after every time he poos. In winter I pick up every day. I think it’s gross to mow without picking it up!

Um, no.
My dog rarely goes on the grass; but of course I pick it up before mowing. I can't even imagine NOT picking up before mowing.

I never heard of picking up poop out of your own back yard until a few years ago on here. We always had smallish dogs, if you had a huge dog I can see it being more of a concern.
Growing up, if we had complained, my parents would have told us "then watch where you step!". Lol
Shrugs, whatever works for you.

I've gotten better about picking up the dog poo. My girls are grown and nobody plays in the backyard but since I moved I want my yard nice so i do pick it up. I encourage the dogs to go potty in the backyard before walks but there's something about a walk that just gets their bowels moving. SO i carry little green bags.
After reading this thread I will be doing poop control every day.

I was given this advice from someone that has working bird dogs

Poop Patrol is a thing!!! The kids have to do poop patrol before DH mows. Interestingly, I never did it as a kid and we almost always had a dog when I was growing up. I assume dad just mowed over it. I've been hanging out on the porch a great deal and can't smell anything, George just had a bout of diarrhea so obviously that wasn't picked up (the outside mess at least I certainly cleaned up a great deal inside) but I haven't noticed a smell from that being mowed over. I'm militant about picking up after him on walks and trips to the dog park. My nieces had it down to a science. One was the lead "spotter" while the other was the "scooper", and they rotated roles.
