They said an Australian doctor went down yesterday to assess the boy's health. Apparently he is a caving expert or does caving himself. I guess there's a very small group of people who are both doctors and able to make that trip. Luckily someone was available who could.
I get anxious just thinking about being underwater and swimming through a gap that is just 40cm high.
They are reporting that 5 & 6 are just about out and the first 2 have arrived at hospital. They are all walking and seem to be in reasonable physical condition.

I think my day is going to be me sitting here waiting until all 13 are out, and crying off and on while this unfolds. I am overjoyed to hear how successful this has been so far!

I wonder how on earth they decide who is to go through first. The youngest? The strongest? The weakest? My brain is telling me the strongest so any problems can be reassessed after that and hopefully he will get out safely and give renewed hope to everyone. I read the article linked farther up the thread, and interestingly enough, it said they started with the weakest boy. Perhaps they thought that if the rain starts again and the passages start to refill with water, the strongest boys would best be able to handle the toughest passage. As as for the rescue itself, I’m with some of the rest of you—the whole thing is so tough to watch, for a number of reasons. I feel for the parents and the boys, for one thing. But oh my gosh, hearing how small some of those passages are starts to set me into panic mode. I can’t think about the details too much. I’m praying for good news soon.

Perhaps they thought that if the rain starts again and the passages start to refill with water, the strongest boys would best be able to handle the toughest passage. That's what I would do, get the weakest (physically or emotionally as at least some of those kids must be a terrified mess)out while conditions were at their best. Hopefully it continues to move quickly and smoothly and they can get them all out before the rain makes it more difficult than it already is.

I think my day is going to be me sitting here waiting until all 13 are out, and crying off and on while this unfolds. I am overjoyed to hear how successful this has been so far! When the news flashed up of the second group of boys, I started crying, which surprised me. I didn’t realize how tense I was getting. If I’m this tense lolling on the sofa on a Sunday morning, what must those involved in the rescue be feeling? And no, I can’t even contemplate what the parents are feeling. Can’t.even.think about their turmoil, so I’ve devoted my brain to marveling over this rescue, including the fact that there are actually people in this world who are not only scuba diving rescuers, but CAVE scuba diving rescuers, and on top of that...you know...MEDICAL DOCTORS. (So assumedly not sofa lollers?)

I'm watching the live news here with a reporter who has been there for several days and he has said 6 are out.
One boy has been classed as "code red" but they didn't really know what that meant...apart from that he's obviously more unwell than the others. The helicopter to the hospital only takes about six minutes so at least that's not too long.
That cave must have been pretty putrid after all this time, 13 people urinating and defecating (even though that would have got less over the days) and warm damp air is a breeding ground for bacteria...some of them will probably have lung infections or other breathing problems.

Reuters say 6 are out. This is so wonderful and incredible. What heroes these divers are.
Someone put on Twitter that the whole world is supporting this football team.

16m ago 09:20 The US president Donald Trump has suddenly announced that his government are working closely with the Thai government to help evacuate the cave.
He paid tribute to unspecified “Very brave and talented people!” in what is thought to be his first public comment with regards to the Thai cave rescue operation.
His tweet........................ first acknowledgement!

The two Brits that found them, one is a firefighter in his 50's and the other is a computer engineer in his 40's. They have quite a reputation at this kind of "past time" apparently They're world renowned as the A team in rescue work and if anyone was going to find them it was going to be them!

The US president Donald Trump has suddenly announced that his government are working closely with the Thai government to help evacuate the cave. OMFG! That man makes me sick. He'll take credit for anything. There probably are some individual Americans involved, just like there are Thai people, UK people, Aussies etc. But I highly doubt that that "his Government" are the main rescuers. Even our Australian news has been pointing out that this whole rescue effort has been mainly driven by Thai officials and that the people there from other countries are there in a support capacity.

It will be a long day of checking in and not breathing a sigh of relief until all boys, their coach and the rescuers are safe. I applaud all those working so diligently to get these kids to safety. I cannot not want to, imagine what the parents are feeling as they wait.

I had read a different article about these two, but I’m intrigued by the part in this article where one of them says that adrenaline is undesirable during these dives. I had mistakenly speculated to myself that adrenaline would aid these boys. I also read somewhere that these two divers recommended bringing in the Australian physician. Must be a very small and close-knit community. Can’t imagine the stories they share. I’ve also wondered about the language challenges among everybody that’s been cobbled together for this mission - both with each other and with the boys. (If anybody tells me there are international cave scuba diving hobbyists who have also learned Thai in their spare time, I’m just going to roll over and go back to sleep.)

You bring a smile to my face every time you post girl I agree though, it is possibly a fairly close knit international " club" There can't be thousand out there that do this kind of thing as a hobby surely! I would imagine some of them have met each other at other times not just in rescue work but " ordinary" highly dangerous cave diving.

Thank you for sharing this. Yeesh, the things people think to do that I hadn’t even considered as a need. All the talk has been about such specialized skills and equipment, but of course (!) volunteers need clean, mended clothes and Halal food. I just searched (fruitlessly) for a way to donate to help with expenses for any efforts like these. If anybody learns of one, please post.

Looks as if they're going to re start at 8am their time to give everyone involved a rest. It's night time there now and some of the main specialist divers and immediate support staff must be very tired.
