Trying to find really good deli like pickles. Most don’t have the crunch. Any recommendations?
Update: Found Grillo's pickles at my local grocery store, but only the non-spicy version. Very good, but wasn't cheap (I think I paid $8.99 for a small tub). Of course, went to Costco tonight and what do I see? A large tub of Grillos! Guess I know where to buy them the next time around. Thanks again for the recommendations!

I love Claussen pickles. They are always in the cold case, not with the regular pickles on the condiment shelf.

Claussen are our most often purchased. Do you have Bubbies pickles in your area? These are a bit more spicy but we like them too. (they are in the refrigerated section next to Claussen.

Trying to find really good deli like pickles. Most don’t have the crunch. Any recommendations? Look for pickles in the cold case. They are cold processed so don't get cooked during the canning process which softens the cucumbers used.

I love Claussen pickles and recently have been buying Strub's Dill Pickles, also from the deli cold case. These are delicious. My DH really likes them too and he is not a fan of regular pickles.

I normally buy Claussen pickles too, but noticed a jar of Nathan's dill slices in the cold section of my grocery store and decided to try them - they are really good.

So easy...it's in the recipe board...
From TanyaB~~~ LOVE these
Try this recipe! I tried it for the first time last week and just finally got to taste them today. They are the best dill pickle I've ever made and stayed crunchy and perfect. Strong flavor-just like a Clausen. I'm going to make another huge batch today. Thought I'd share:
Clausen Clones 4-5 medium to large cucumbers (cut into slices or spears) 4-6 heads of dill 1 large white onion, diced 1/2 t. mustard seed 4 to 6 cloves garlic
Put all of the above into a 5 qt. ice cream pail. Cut the pickles into quarters (or slices) and stand on end until full. (for the slices I just filled the pail almost to the top).
Brine: 1/2 c. pickling salt 2 c. white vinegar 6 c. water
Bring the brine ingredients to a boil and pour over the cucumbers. Stand on the cupboard for 3 days, uncovered. Cover and put in the refrigerator for up to 1 year.
I do it a bit different in that I put the cukes in glass jars and put a garlic clove, some dill and the chopped onion in each individual jar. Then I pour the liquid into each jar.Let it cool and refrigerate them once cooled.

Claussen! My store doesn’t carry any other pickles in the cold case or I would try others. I don’t care for spicy pickles, personally.

CLAUSENS IS COMPLETE GARBAGE. YOU NEED TO TRY GRILLOS!!!!! I've never even heard of Grillos, but I googled and it said they are sold at Safeway so I'm going to check to see if they have it. Do you know if it is sold in a jar or at a deli counter?

It’s true you learn something new everyday on this board. I never knew there were pickles in the cold section of the store. What other products would they be located with?

In our Wal-Mart and Fareway (midwest grocery store) the Claussen pickles are with the cheese, bologna, sandwich meat and hot dog areas. We LOVE Claussen and that's the only cold pickle in our area.

Grillos are the best pickle I have ever eaten - get the spicy ones!!! (If you don't live on the East Coast, look at their website to see where they are sold. I'm in Nebraska and our Whole Foods has them).

Pickles sold in the refrigerated section are so much better! They have that “snap” or “crunch” that’s missing from the shelf stable picked. Please Report back with your findings after you try them.
