I'll let you take a guess what our neighbour's girlfriend did! I really can't believe people are this low ETA the bags were on our doorstep, clearly marked with the charities name.

Ignore them?
And there’s some places here that you DO NOT look inside random plastic bags!!! Not only because it’s not yours, but because there’ll most likely be something gross in it. Best case scenario would be regular garbage. Worst case who knows. Ewww

Here in the US, that would be stealing. It also could set you up for tax fraud if you claimed the donation on your taxes.
I would present the neighbor with the bill for the amount of my tax deduction; especially since we have a Ring video doorbell and would have video proof of the theft.

Bwahaha. I love that you included a poll and that people are voting. I love the peas. I want to see who will say, "I steal charity bags!"
Did she do it in front of you, as in "unabashedly?" If so, you might want to make up some bags of trash marked, "CHARITY" so she can also access those.

I was in the bathroom and could hear her quite clearly, I was in a state of undress otherwise I'd have gone out. I'm quite tempted to put some 'items' in a bag and see if she takes those too. elaine I don't claim charity donations on taxes.

My daughter's school had a coat drive for charity some years back. I found out several of the moms were actually using the drive to "trade up" coats for their kids. "I got both of my sons brand new Northface coats- They still had the tags!!"

Ugh, people disgust me. A local charity place that offer clothes to people in need for free (set up like Goodwill but don't charge a thing). They have a collection area. While there's a bin for clothes, some people leave boxes and bags next to it after hours. The charity recently shared a picture of this area being completely trashed. There's no one there on Sundays so someone went through the boxes and bags of stuff left and just left it scattered all over. I've seen people picking through donations left at the salvation army across the street from me.
That's stealing, people!

Do you have a cat or a dog? The contents of a litter tray and some poop bags in interestingly shaped boxes, as well as some of your bin waste might go some way to preventing future thefts.

How awful. My friend had left some charity bags at the end of her path but inside the gate they weren’t collected and she forgot to bring them in at night.
About 2.00 she hear a rustling noise and spotted someone going through the bags. She gave a loud cough and off he ran.
Still in her nightdress she ran outside and found lots of clothes strewn across the road She frantically tried to gather everything up before she was spotted. She’s a large lady and her nightwear was short! A number of things had been taken including new bed linen still in its wrapper.
No doubt all to be sold to fund the next fix.

Holy crap! The nerve of some people.
We don't get tax deductions for that type of donations in Canada either. We do if we donate money, but not when we donate clothes or household items to goodwill.

Well I am going to go against the norm and say, it depends. When I personally put stuff out I don't care who takes it. I don't want it. Help yourself. The tax break isn't that great, and won't be this year that's for sure.
Be a bit generous. A person who is willing to find their clothes and needed items in curbside bags. I don't care if she's rich and just likes curbside shopping or if she is really in need. Let it go. You don't want it anyway.
And among neighbors, be generous. You don't know what someone is dealing with or going through. You put it on the curb so be done with it.

Yeah, I'd be having a walk over to the neighbor to discuss her keeping the hell away from your property in the future. What a total asshole.

I totally get your point, but I wouldn't be able to trust this neighbor now, and I would at least have a conversation so they know that YOU know that they were on your property and took something not meant for them. It was clearly not trash, and it was clearly labeled for someone else.

The bags were intended for charity, they were expecting them to be there when they called round this morning. This woman is not my neighbour. If I wanted her to have my things I'd give them to her. My generosity was intended to help Marie Curie cancer research.
The CPS quite clearly regards the taking of charity donation bags as theft. I wouldn't go so far as to involve the police but it would class as an offence.

Then don't. Do what you want. I just offered my opinion. If it is in clearly marked Marie Curie collection bags then I agree.

I said in the original post that the bags were clearly marked with the charities name. I'm just disgusted that anyone would walk onto someone else's property and take stuff that isn't theirs.
Honestly, if I thought the neighbour and his girlfriend were in any way struggling or in need I'd be doing my best to help them out.

It's stealing. If she needed clothing that bad, she should have knocked on your door and asked.
We have those stupid red metal boxes around town where you can drop stuff into. They get overflowed and people leave crap all around it (basically trash) but people root around that stuff as well. And leave HUGE messes. I don't understand businesses who even allow those boxes on their property.
CRAP I was supposed to leave my donations out this morning and totally forgot.. UGGGGGG

is she a local?
around here we put stuff out and it's an open invitation for the neighbors or anyine driving by to take what they want and then we donate the rest.
I'm not saying it's right if that's not the cultural norm where you are but she if she isn't originally from there she may not know how wrong it is to you.
I would mention it to her and let her know you aren't ok with it.

"I got both of my sons brand new Northface coats- They still had the tags!!" I’ve witnessed several thrift store volunteers that picked the best donations for themselves over the years Sadly that includes two of my sisters.

I’d start calling her Marie Currie. When she asks why tell her you assumed that was her name since she felt free to take the bags. But then I’m passive aggressive like that.
