So last last Saturday, June 30th I bought myself a new car. All by myself I want to add. I have always had DH with me.. not that I can't do it by myself, we just have always gone together to purchase our vehicles. Anyways, not the point. So through my credit union and a broker I found a great car and I am in love with it..
So because my income was a bit to low to do the loan on my own, both me and DH have to sign papers. He is a trucker so he wasn't there. I signed everything and they are (were) going to overnight the papers to him once he was somewhere long enough to get them. Meanwhile, on July 1st, I got a huge promotion and huge pay raise, so I contacted the bank and asked if that was enough so that DH didn't need to sign the papers. (I actually signed two sets, so I didn't have to go back to the dealership.. one set with both our names and one set with just my name only). They were going to look into it.
So now it is July 10th. Have I heard anything? No. I have called on a daily basis and left messages. I have called the dealership (which isn't really a dealership, it's a broker).. nothing. I have emailed them both (together) and said "you guys were all worried about this paperwork getting signed correctly but yet you never reach out to me"
I am documenting every move proving the fact I am doing my 'due diligence'. But it is making me nervous... they better not screw with me and take my car away!!
There are two options.. accept my new pay raise and all papers are signed.. OR get those papers to my husband ASAP... (which in itself hard to do since he is everywhere on the road and it changes daily where he will be at). OH yeah and I suggested electronic signatures for him.. the broker said it couldn't do it because of the state papers but the bank said they could do it (that was about the last time I heard from either one of them)

I don’t have any advice on the paperwork, but I’d be irritated that they aren’t responding. REALLY irritated.
Have you tried USAA? I’ve used them twice in the past few years for a loan and it’s been super simple. Everything is online, including signatures. I printed off a certificate with a reference number and we were out of the dealership in about 15 minutes.
I did call, just to find out how to lower the interest rate and the woman advised taking out a larger loan, which came with a lower rate. I was then able to promptly pay the difference with no penalty. I find USAA online banking to be very easy to use. So much so that I’m considering switching all our banking over.

Well, they won't take your car- but finance folks are the worst at communication. I work at a dealership and it is so frustrating answering the phone for one of their customers. And we don't do electronic signatures because we are still in the dark ages. Not all dealerships but certainly most. Sorry for your angst. I validate you.

I think my son has USAA.. but I am not going to change right in the middle of this at this point.. I did just call again and finally got the loan guy to answer.. Apparently he was out due to some medical issue and is/was behind... he is going to call the broker and see what the holdup is because he hasn't received any paperwork either. Funny thing is it was the broker place that was all up in arms in getting the paperwork to my husband. OYE.... so maybe today we will make some headway.. just hope DH stays in one place long enough to get the paperwork. LOL

I can understand not wanting to change mid-transaction, but I’d do it if they keep jerking you around. Check into USAA next time—they are crazy helpful, claims all managed by them (not you) and the online banking is so easy to use (probably because so many are stationed away from an actual USAA bank.) Even deposits are online. We switched over to them when the kids got their accounts and it’s so easy for me to transfer in money for allowances or tuition bills.

Well looks like it is going to work out... at least that is what the loan guy said. I can title the car in my name only and the loan can be in both of our names.. I think that is what he said. So any documents can be email to DH because it was the State documents that have to be original..
What a pain but it actually works out better so if I have to sell the car, I won't need his name on it.
But a suggestion was given to me that we should get a Power of Attorney so I can sign documents for him...I never even thought of that!

I get a new POA every year (DH is still active duty). It used to be that the JAG's office would issue a blanket POA, but now it has to list the specific POA accesses. Financial, medical, etc... It's helpful for deployments, but I'm also covered if DH is working long hours or becomes ill. Some places will keep it on file, other places I have to have the actual POA piece of paper. And then there's the companies (AT&T, I'm looking at you) that have it in their files, require the paper, and still don't want to be helpful. It does sound like it would be a good idea for you if your DH is out of town frequently.

I'm glad that this will work out for you.
I believe that EVERYONE over the age of 18 (legal adult) should have a POA finance, POA medical and a Will. Doesn't have to be fancy, but make sure that it is legal in your state/province. Life can change very quickly, and having these documents will save you a lot of money, time & stress.

But a suggestion was given to me that we should get a Power of Attorney so I can sign documents for him...I never even thought of that! This is excellent advice, especially if either one of a couple is gone for long periods of time due to work. DH and I have had them for 20 years due to being separated for work for long periods of time. I will caution you though that they are not good on every single type of transaction, and that can vary by state. In Texas, I learned you cannot buy a car with a POA so my last car was titled in my name only, although the loan was in both names.

On my phone, I couldn’t read the type—just saw the symbol!
