First of all: I get really, really hangry when I don't eat carbs. Like... it's bad. I have no advice. Well, I have a little advice; when I was eating very low carb (before I fell totally off the wagon), I would allow myself to eat whatever I wanted on Saturdays. Bread, potatoes, rice, whatever. It really did help, actually. And, I incorporated carbs throughout the week (sweet potatoes, Ezekiel bread, brown rice in small quantities). But...

I did low carb for years. Pasta and bread are my kryptonite. I have one doctor pushing a low carb diet and a specialist saying absolutely no way no how. I don’t know what the answer is, but I am not dieting right now because it only lasts a while and then I gain back all the weight after depriving myself for a long period of time.

I can't quit carbs. I just try to limit the amount and eat healthier versions.

Short answer: you don't. Sorry, I'm useless. I love the carbs, I embrace the carbs, I live by the carbs. In nomine pastries, et fusili, et potatoes sancti.

You could try cooking and cooling them before eating them to make them resistant starch and less carb-y. Lots of google links explaining it, if you're interested .

I'm not sure of the answer either. I've tried to stick to Keto and can't seem to stay off the carbs any more (I did Atkins years ago and lost 80 pounds, but did gain most of it back when I fell off the wagon and went on a multi year sugar/carb binge sigh.
I've just joined WW online, and was doing well, and now I can't seem to keep from eating all the carbs/junk again. I'd lost 40 pounds as of February, but I've gained 15 or so back. I'm running, with plans to do a 5K. And I feel great, but can't seem to stick to a healthier eating plan of any kind.

Why would you take potatoes out of your life? What did they do to you? I mean, potatoes are always there for you. Happy times (fries), sad times (chips), family time (potato salad), cold times (baked), holidays (mashed).... I mean, look they’re always there....don’t push them away!

I'm sorry, but I think you need carbs (not you in particular OP, everyone). All these hangry, carbless people running around all stressed out and stressing me out. I think you can lose weight eating some carbs (I did -- 30 pounds), but you just can't go all carbzilla and eat them for every meal (although in a perfect world, I would).

I have been trying to be low carb for over a year. I’ve done intermittent fasting forever. I can’t seem to last more than a week low carb before I break down and eat potatoes or chips and salsa or go to my favorite Indian buffet. I don’t like bread that much, I can easily turn it down. I like pasta, but have found substitutes for that (spaghetti squash or zucchini). But, POTATOES. I can’t seem to quit potatoes. Is there a bad way to prepare potatoes? Because I’m pretty sure I love every version of potatoes. (Not flakes, obvs. Real potatoes.) I’m blaming my Irish blood. Any tips? What Indian buffet? You can pm me!

A life without carbs ain’t even worth thinking about.
If you are concerned about your carb intake, just reduce it. Fruit and yogurt for breakfast, not toast, pastries or cereal. Choose a low carb side like couscous for one of your meals. Use brown/wholemeal pasta and rice instead of white rice/pasta.

You don't wanna hear this but have you tried mashed cauliflower to replace potatoes? Yeah, yeah. I know. Totally not the same but they aren't horrible imposters.

According to Dr. Ken Berry on You Tube, the way to cut carb cravings is to add in lots of fat (basically, a keto diet).

Eat your carbs! Just eat them early in the day and if you need a "cheat meal" then plan for that where you eat more than you typically would but eat healthy the other 90% of your week. It's all about balance.

I did find that going to a lower carb diet did make me crave carbs less. So, on my "cheat" day, I wouldn't really even choose things like bread or potatoes. Or maybe it was habit.
But I did have to have some carbs, because otherwise I was SO STABBY. Mashed sweet potatoes (heyyyy instant pot) and brown rice were kind of my go-tos.

In nomine pastries, et fusili, et potatoes sancti. I'm so dying here. That was so funny, I think I need to post it on my Facebook so all my fellow Latin class friends, who went to Catholic school with me and know the prayer can have a laugh!

I love carbs too. I have mostly gotten off bread. I don’t like the taste of most breads now so that helps.
But I am a sucker for pasta and mashed potatoes. I love mashed potatoes!!! We try really hard not to make those foods.

I adore carbs. I eat them all day long. And I’ve lost almost 70 lbs. if you love potatoes, McDougalls Maximum Weight Loss Plan may be for you.
I know people consider a plant based diet “extreme “, but is it really, compared with a diet that eliminates the food source our bodies were designed to use (carbs)?
I’m not intending to preach, I just think if low carb is hard for you, maybe something else would work better.
BTW, I yo-yo dieted using low carb for decades before I went plant based. I had some success, especially at first , but then my weight just inched up over the years, no matter how hard I tried. And I live with family members who are trying, using low carb diets, to lose weight, but who are getting a little heavier each year.

There is nothing wrong with eating carbs in moderation. Your body needs a certain amount of carbs to function at its best. They're what gives your body energy. No one would try running a car with no gas so why would anyone try to run a body with no carbs. A certain amount of carbs is essential to a balanced diet.
Try eating a very moderate amount of carbs on a regular basis then your body will not crave them so much. You then, in time naturally cut down on the amount that you would normally eat and that will lower your craving. And fasting IMO is unhealthy. It slows your body's natural metabolic rate down.

Do you have to? If you’re looking for weight loss the key is to find something do-able for you. There are obviously other options 🙂

Okay, so moderation? But I feel like that’s what I’ve been doing since last year and all I’ve managed to do is gain and lose the same ten pounds. And I know “women of my age” tend to start putting on weight, so should I just be grateful that I didn’t gain an additional 10 pounds? Do I need to accept that I’m going to be kind of chubby-and-yet-potato-deprived for the rest of my life? I see all these people doing the same diet as me that have dropped 80 pounds and it makes me want to... drown my sorrows in tater tots.

If you love carbs, a low carb diet ain’t the one for you. Best way to eat carbs - cook them, cool them, then reheat them when required. By cooling and reheating carbs, they change chemistry and become low GI, and more fibre-like and filling. Who doesn’t love a spag Bol reheat, and now it’s practically a health food! The good news about reheating white starchy foods

I can't believe how much I love mashed cauliflower. When I make half cauliflower/half potatoes, no one in the family even notices. MaryMary, do you like sweet potatoes?
