Good. I hope they give her the maximum due to the unnecessary and unmitigated savagery she unleashed on that poor innocent man.
-------------------------------------------------
(I'm actually surprised this hasn't been posted here yet - TY Darcy Collins, she said this has been mentioned in the "Trump Catch-all thread", I missed it)
This is unconscionable.
I'm so happy they arrested this immoral, horrible person. I don't even care why she did it - if you target an elderly person for anything you're a complete POS.

People are awful. It doesn’t matter what “side” you’re on, people have become vile and hateful.
So glad though that the gofund me page is showing that there are still good people despite the awful ones.

She needs to be charged with a hate crime among the many other charges surely coming down.

One of President Trump's very first campaign speeches back in 2016 began by referring to Mexican immigrants as criminals and “rapists.” He then went on to propose building a wall to keep out Mexicans and banning all Muslims, including American citizens abroad, from entering the country.
And (according to Google) 62,979,879 voted for him to represent them.
What did those 62,979,879 expect would happen when they voted for him?
This is deplorable that an old man is attacked for no reason other than the attacker's racism.

Hate is a strong word, but I have extra hate for people that hurt animals, children, and elderly people.

are you actually blaming Trump for this? yup, I do. I absolutely think his hateful (untrue, in terms of calling Mexicans 'rapists' etc.), bigoted and inflammatory ('infested' etc. making them sound less than human) rhetoric and anti-immigrant policies has led us to this type of thing happening. In what other circumstances would there EVER be a justifiable reason for a perfectly able-bodied adult to beat a 90+ year old person? And what other plausible explanation could she EVER come up with as to WHY she did something so reprehensible, other than he was Mexican?

That's interesting...are you actually blaming Trump for this? I'm actually surprised it took this long (in this thread) for someone to blame him. It's simple geographic ignorance. You'd have to never have heard of Watts, or Compton California to not understand the racial demographics of the area and how those go back (at the VERY LEAST) 50 years.
Holy uninformed, Batman.

I didn't say there was never anything racial happening before this instance. But someone beating an elderly Mexican man? Absolutely due to Trump.

well, that kinda goes without saying, doesn't it? I don't expect that someone who would think it was okay to beat an old man with a piece of cement would be a stellar example of humanity.
Doesn't "go back to Mexico" kinda imply she had an issue with where he was from?!? (therefore, racist / bigoted)

It's difficult for me to go into big threads like that much anymore.
I'm kinda astounded that people don't understand the racial influences of that area. There's been a lot of tension between the Mexican and African American communities in that part of Los Angeles for decades. Mexican gangs were targeting African Americans trying to intimidate them out of the area and vice versa. I can't say that this incident was or wasn't motivated by that, but the tension exists.

You really should read the article I posted above - it's a decent basic history on the racial tensions of the area. The whole "go back to Mexico" is definitely racist but it certainly did not start with Trump in 2016.

So people really believe Laquisha Jones is a Trump supporter? Seriously? She's a racist, but it's not because she's following Trump's twitter feed. I think people woefully overestimate the percentage of people who actually follow politics.

I think people woefully overestimate the percentage of people who actually follow politics. Well, technically...in LA County (Pop: 9.8 million) where roughly 52% cast votes, it is possible that Ms. Jones was one of the 22.5% that voted for Trump.
Therefore, it is possible she was motivated by Trump's hate speech from 2016 and on.
I personally think it far more likely that a (potential) lifetime of being raised in a racially volatile area may have had a much more detrimental influence on her and her family (likely all the way back to her grandparents, possibly before) conceivably causing a lifelong aversion to a perceived threat that the ever growing Hispanic community may have represented in her life.

I grew up in LA, and yes, the tension between Latinos and African Americans has been going on for decades!! This has nothing to do with Trump, imho. I am glad they apprehended her and I hope they get the other 3 guys too.

That's interesting...are you actually blaming Trump for this? There has been a spike in hate crimes since President Trump was elected. Many people hold racist views but although many people have these beliefs, they aren’t always willing to express their opinions publicly. The President has referred to Mexicans as rapists, criminals and bad hombres. He is still demanding a border wall to keep out Mexicans. Those type of comments have served to normalize bigotry. His statements make people feel it is more socially acceptable to express racist views. When people think their government is reflecting their ideas, even the most racist, bigoted ones, than they themselves find it easier to speak out.

My comment was that the Trump presidency has made racist people feel it is more socially acceptable to express their racist views.

I'm not saying Trump hasn't contributed, but his sputtering idiotic words didn't start this and it is completely unlikely his rhetoric is the reason behind this incident.

When people think their government is reflecting their ideas, even the most racist, bigoted ones, than they themselves find it easier to speak out. The problem with this theory, is that it's just wholly untrue for this area. No doubt some closet racist have come out of the woodwork because of Trump's racist rhetoric. But a brick is actually an improvement over the senseless violence that is endemic of this area. If you're interested in more background this article is from 2013, so well before Trump began his racist rhetoric and explains the racial tensions in the area. www.policemag.com/blog/gangs/story/2013/02/the-compton-155th-street-gang-la-calle-loca.aspxThis is an area where a not insignificant portion of the population wouldn't hesitate to shoot you because of your skin color - and that's been true for decades. Although in fairness it's come a long way from when 70+ killings a year was the norm: articles.latimes.com/2006/jan/02/local/me-compton2
