I almost never buy anything in bulk and love when I don’t throw away/waste excess. So, smaller amount for me.

Well, what is it? But my option is whatever is cheapest. Not sure how you can’t use it all, if it’s something so important you need to pay this much. I’d make sure to use it all!

if it’s something so important you need to pay this much Ah see that's what I'm avoiding, the value judgement on how much I spend on this & what I'm spending it on. The product itself doesn't matter and I've already made my decision so wasn't looking for any alternate suggestions (I've seen how these threads can get derailed over what it is and not the main reason for the question...plus any product suggestions are likely to be based in America and not available here anyway), I was just interested to see if people had the same thought process "buy the bigger size because it's cheaper" even if I won't use it all. Even though we weren't badly off when I was a child, both of my parents were "thrifty" and were very cautious about wasting money and often bought things in bulk when they were on sale. Funny how that way of thinking still creeps in when you are an adult yourself. However the comments make sense...it isn't a bargain if you don't/can't use it all. That's what I needed to hear! Happy to report I just bought the smaller size.

I've seen how these threads can get derailed over what it is and not the main reason for the question... Hahaha no shit!!! Glad to hear that you bought the smaller size.

I see you have already made your decision to purchase the smaller size. Like many of the other replies, that would have been my choice.
When purchasing something, I also like to consider the space an item takes up in my pantry, shelves or closet. I think of it as rental for the space. Larger items get in the way and take up space a lot longer than smaller versions. I am finally getting it through hubby's thick skull that we do not need to purchase the extra large version of many things like we used to when we were a family of four. For example, he always wants to purchase the huge bottle of ketchup, but we only use it about twice a month if not less. But the time it is used up, it really is OLD!

I’d probably have bought the bigger one, but I do think my answer would depend to a great degree on what it was, which in your case we don’t know. I often sell stuff on or give things away. If I was buying something amazing, I wouldn’t mind buying bigger and letting a friend or my mum try it too. There is a market for most things, and you’ve had to spend a packet on postage to get it to you - someone else living locally to you might want the same thing. I might have put something on Facebook seeing if folk wanted to go halves with me on the big size.
It would also depend on how close I lived to a bigger population - if I was out in the sticks I’d have less chance of selling on.
Lots of variable, no clear answer, and very dependant on the product. I don’t agree that what the product is doesn’t matter. I get it doesn’t affect your decision, but without knowing what it is, it definitely affects mine.
Good you are happy with what you’ve done - enjoy it, whatever it is!

Are we allowed to guess what you're buying?

Are we allowed to guess what you're buying? Knock yourself out! It isn't anything particularly interesting, I just wanted to avoid "xxx product is cheaper" posts when I already know that xxx isn't available here. So far you know it's in powder form, comes in at least two sizes, has an expiry date, freezing isn't recommended, and it's unlikely that any of my friends also have a current need for it. If anyone gets it right, I'll let you know, and no, at $35 it's not the world's cheapest cocaine deal

Hard to understand and help make choices when we don’t get all the info. The Peas need to know haha! But you may be surprised to find out what you’re buying is more common than you think, and maybe someone could use your leftovers.

Sounds like there is less waste with the smaller option, so I'd go with that. Less wasted product and less wasted money. (And I say money is wasted simply because you know you won't be able to use up all of the product.)

Given that you won't even use everything in the smaller pack, I would buy that one because it cost less.
