as someone who was raised in a small-town, traditional church (Midwestern ELCA Lutheran), this is very off-putting to me. I am going to make an effort now to pay attention to the people I follow on Instagram, and if they're Mormon, I don't want to follow them anymore. I don't like organized religion much at all anymore, although I would still call myself somewhat spiritual, I guess- but this strategy seems very dishonest and underhanded to me. If I wanted religion in my life, I would seek it out. The Mormon pushing of religion seems different than just 'living your faith by example' if that makes any sense. I don't think it's a well managed effort to get the mommy bloggers to meet at the SLC headquarters and strategize. They've been doing the missionary thing since the beginning of the religion. They were one of the first, like sleepingbooty said to switch to using technology to promote themselves. It comes down to old men being in charge of a religion and pushing the teaching that every member is a missionary. I'm a firm believer women will always be second class in their eyes. I got a flower from my former ward (congregation) on Sunday and the quote was about mothers, mothers, mothers, mothers! It was a nauseatingly 1950's homemaker vibe.

I thought it was a real scholarship. I should have known it was just more trawling for sheep (mixed metaphor much? ) - 3 of whom will get a 'scholarship' to her navel-gazing audio course. I guess just cross-shilling to other mormothers isn't working out.

Becky has to inflate everything she does to be more "important/impressive" than the reality.
Free class giveaway = scholarship Ass handed to her by internet = anxiety attack how to books = published author influencer wannabe = small business owner old home foreclosure = my new monstrosity deserves only the best house numbers

Yeah, as other's said, that's just a giveaway for a seat in the class.
I don't think it has to be for college tuition (or private school tuition is super common) to be considered a scholarship. There are lots of scholarships out there for other types of opportunities, such as dance classes, seminars, etc. I think you can call something a "scholarship" to a crafting/self-help/whatever-her-class-is class (not just for college/private schools), but to be a scholarship (as opposed to a giveaway) it would be based on either merit or need.
So, for example, it would be a scholarship if she said "We have 3 scholarship spots available in our class. If you cannot afford it right now but really feel like this class would benefit you, please submit a (private) paragraph about how the pandemic has negatively impacted your financial situation but why you still feel like this class would important for you at this time. We will review the applications and select 3 applicants that we feel really need this extra boost during this difficult time." But saying, "follow my instagram and tag a friend in the comments and we will randomly select 3 applicants to get a free class" is a giveaway.
I also just caught up on this thread this morning and I want to make a comment about the builder/contractor/architect distinction. I have to defend Becky a little here... while her design choices/foreclosure/many other things are ridiculous, I don't think you can really read too much into her choice of word by calling someone "the builder".
We just built a home through a developer who creates housing developments. We selected from a menu of floorplans, worked with them to make a few adjustments to the floorplan to fit our needs, and then selected all the fixtures/upgrades (tile, etc.). My frequently contact was with either the interior designer who works with the developer or the realtor who acted as a sales person and "go between" between us and the site supervisor. The site supervisor oversaw the construction on our home and coordinated subcontractors and other work. I only saw the site supervisor at our inspections. I also met the owner of the company a few times and coordinated with a few of the subcontractors directly for certain changes, as well as the on staff architect who worked with me to make edits to the floorplan. I got an idea of the different roles these people played during the process, but I really knew them by name and we would refer to them by name when talking to others in the process, so I don't believe I ever learned their "official titles." I don't think this is rude or "looking down on blue collar workers," in fact, I think it would be rude to request they explain their official label to me. They are all people that I worked with to help our house come together.
But, when talking to someone about our house building process I just refer to them all as "the builder." I have no clue if that is the appropriate term, but it would not make sense to tell my friends "Randy said..." without context of who he is nor do they care about the logistics of if he is the designer, the architect, the contractor, and putting too much emphasis on those qualifications is more judgmental than just focusing on the work that was done. So, when I'm telling my friends about our tile selections or how we moved walls around it's easier to say "the builder recommended..." or "the builder allowed us to do..." than to get into the logistics of who within the company we were working with. I imagine if you are doing a custom build not everyone goes through one central company like we did, but the explanation would be the same. When talking to others about my house building process they are mostly interested in the design choices we made or what options were available, not the logistics. I would guess that Becky took a similar approach when sharing on instagram, focusing on the details that her followers would find interesting and not on the titles of the people she worked with.

lasteve1 Builder for the way you referred to is a very different scenario, in your case. That is common and fine. No one is side eyeing you. You were not advertising or profiting from your construction in a social media setting. If you were profiting then it is a different story. If you had a friend who wanted to know who Randy was so she could hire him then that is a different story at least you should have some type of information so she could hire Randy or his firm. The information that sleepingbooty provided about Becky's version of builder she is profiting and advertising. She needs to use the correct terms. It is condescending and rude. She is like "This low life builder helped me with my perfect home but it was all my decision." Remember that Becky uses her social media platform to advertise her wealth as "Living A Cultivated Life". She uses her home as a big example of that. The woman has her own for profit social media IG for a house. She needs to be held accountable for not properly crediting. A lot of people worked hard to build her dream home she could be decent and give them credit so they can also have new contracts and business.

The quote "if you are on the fence on whether or not you want to invest in yourself" is such a slap in the face comment. Girl has no concept of the amount of privilege she has and its sickening. I'm sure everyone would love to have unlimited money to spend on to "invest in yourself" but right now with everything that is going on, covid, the economy and unemployment people don't have that kind of money just to throw at her ego. There are a ton of other, way more credible speakers out there who are using their social media platforms to help others...for FREE! She just makes me sick

Today's email.... 13 paragraphs to explain that new notebook designs are for sale. She's latched on to the word "story" so that's all over the books, and she also mentioned how much of a blessing BP has been in her life.
So if you need a notebook, she has more to sell.

I didn’t read the entire email, but really had to laugh that her business coach had her boil it down to “one word.” Hint much?

Yeah, I think that hint flew right over her head and landed somewhere in the notebook factory. I also thought the subject line was funny - "behind every notebook there's a story." I thought stories go IN the notebooks.... have I been using them wrong this whole time?!

I’m still stuck on the boat photo. How does swimsuit modeling jive with modest Mormon mommy blogger? Remember the god-awful swag dress? I guess the coupon code covers a multitude of sins?!
What did BP do before she sunk her claws into BH?

Does anyone have the email link? I think this will work. Did I read it wrong or did she say that BP is divine?? Really?? 😳 Thanks! "Pick up these notebooks in the shop before they’re gone. As you likely know, we do a single print run on each notebook design and once they sell out, that’s it. We recently squished together the release of 6 notebooks in a span of only a few weeks (!!!) to help you feel less frantic about getting notebooks that sell out lightning fast … and we made MORE of these so they wouldn’t sell out so crazy fast … but friends, they WILL sell out. So grab yours today! " Could she sound more like an old west snake oil salesman? Becky's magic feel good elixir! Hurry Friends!! Get them before they're gone! And her genius "STORY!!" Copy Ali Edwards much, Becky Higgins?

I still don't know if she believes the crap she says or if she and Becky Proudfit sit around and craft this narrative of this "Divine" persona.
And those notebooks are a few weeks old. They must not have sold out as fast as she expected. Maybe because the covers are weird and they are overpriced. Not to mention we are in a pandemic.

Forgot to mention, you can get the class on two payments now! "So many people wanted it, but they just can't invest in themselves right now, so we made it easier for you." I don't think a payment plan is what is keeping people from signing up. Maybe it's the fact that no one knows what your class is about, it's overpriced, you aren't trained in the areas you spew, and so many were burned on other classes by you, we wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

I think it's telling that a business coach asking her to choose one word gave her such clarity and the ability to focus on what matters most. It's too bad she didn't have that business coach when she was starting to run PL into the ground.... maybe the coach would have taught her to listen to her audience and give them the products they're asking for.

And her genius "STORY!!" Copy Ali Edwards much, Becky Higgins? Between "Documenting Day" that fell at the beginning of this spring's WITL and the sudden focus on the word 'story', it sure sounds like Becky finally looked at what's hot in the scrappy world and discovered Ali's account. A solid handful of years late. As always, Becky is behind the trends. She'll be bored with her interior in 2 years' time. Girl cannot put her finger on the actual pulse. Which is metaphorically ironic considering she's surrounded by physicians.

What did BP do before she sunk her claws into BH? She was a Disney Princess. She was hired as Cinderella. Then she had bébés.
