I see what she's doing. Tagging John Bytheway. Trying to get on the Mormon talk circuit. I thought he was the absolute best back in the day. He really is a good public speaker. I think I'd do more inward cringing these days though.
I'm wondering exactly WHERE in the Ogden Valley. That looks like new construction or not that old. I do wonder how dire their financial situation is if they are in Eden or Huntsville. I personally do not consider that Northern Utah.
Yes, I do like Grandma Sycamore's bread, but not amazing love.

My next prediction...GUYS!! Have you heard of Farr's ice cream? Right next to one of my favorite places in the world; the Ogden LDS temple. farrsicecream.com/No Becky, Aggie Ice Cream is much better. 😛

Do you think she reads here? Suddenly there’s the other Becky after all our speculation. I noticed that also. She got to see her “bestest bestie”. Probably too hard to do when they lived in the same location. 🙃

What are the odds she saw her bestest bestie in a small mountain town where she knows NOBODY!?

I wonder if she will start to share about dirty cokes. My personal favorite is Son of a Peach from Chugz.

I'm afraid to google "dirty coke". What is it?

I'm afraid to google "dirty coke". What is it? Between the industrial bread and this dirty coke thing, I'm lost as a European. Dirty coke sounds like cocaine that was cut with something bad to me... Utah appears to be full of surprises! Also, when I first read about Grandma Sycamore, my brain registered it as Grandma Willow from Pocahontas (in my defense, she's called Grandma Foliage in French). I was very confused until I figured people were talking about the sliced bread.

Dirty Coke is the virgin drink equivalent of the alcoholic drink Dirty...? I don't know. I have drank very little alcohol. There was even a lawsuit between two rival drink places on who could use the name dirty.
You cannot make this stuff up!
ETA: Drink #28 is my favorite. I will defend my love of Son of a Peach. So there. and DUH! Here is the link.

Hey, refugeepea , wanna know a secret? We don't have Wonder Bread. I literally only know of it because it appears in some American TV series and movies. Very retro packaging with primary colours and circles from what I remember. It's like comparing one obscure reference to another. But on the topic of bread, may I share this gem that a French reality TV show dedicated to finding the best bakery in the country (yes, that's really a show we have, I know, I know, so cliché) included in one of their episodes? Utahns love their sugary drinks. Dirty Coke is the virgin drink equivalent of the alcoholic drink Dirty...? I don't know. I have drank very little alcohol. There was even a lawsuit between two rival drink places on who could use the name dirty. Oh dog, this reminds me of those American soda float thingies. Remind me to never sign up for cocktail night in Utah!

I believe they would have a show like that! Is it weird when I hear bread and French, I immediately think baguette or the opening scene from Beauty and The Beast.
Oh dog, this reminds me of those American soda float thingies. Remind me to never sign up for cocktail night in Utah! That is what they are; flavored soda. Except in Utah it is pop. I doubt they would ever call something like that cocktail night. We don't need the appearance of evil. Tsk. Tsk. They would call it mocktail night.

Also, a dirty coke has coconut syrup in it. A dirty martini has olive brine.

Grandma Sycamore bread is super, super soft with a very light and soft crust. I think Pain de Mie is the closest thing France would have. At least that is what they call it at our supposedly as close as America can get to a French Bakery local shop. Wonder Bread is also super soft (you can wad up a slice into a nice dense ball about an inch big in about 2 seconds) but sweeter then Grandma Sycamore.

Thanks for the explanation. I don't drink soda/pop except for a once in a blue moon Pepsi or Cherry Coke so these don't appeal to me at all. I'll drink all the alcohol for those who don't imbibe (okay, maybe not ALL). I do love me some Wonder Bread, so I'd be curious to try the Grandma Sycamore variety. In Iowa we had Rotella's bread (it's a Nebraska brand) which was soft and fluffy and oh so delicious.

ETA: Drink #28 is my favorite. I will defend my love of Son of a Peach. So there. and DUH! Here is the link. This is so fascinating to me. We have nothing like this in Canada. I am constantly amazed at the innovation in the US. Find a gap - for instance, Mormons don't drink alcohol - and fill it - make a quick service restaurant specifically for Mocktails - or soda pop's version of Mocktails, anyway. This just blows my mind. I'd try a sugar free one but no way would I incorporate this into my daily life. That also blows my mind - these (mainly) women are having several a day, every day! It's not just the sugar, it's the money. I don't even buy Starbucks or Tim Horton's - I'm definitely a "make it at home" type of person. My father used to make us Swiss Cream Soda milkshakes when we were little kids in the 1970s and it's one of my best memories. They were so yummy. I imagine a soft drink with half-and-half or coconut milk would taste similar. But the excitement is gone when it's not just a treat for a special day in the summer and your Dad makes it, you know? In Ontario we have Pom bread - a softer, squishier and yummier Wonder Bread. We also have Wonder Bread but it's just not as fresh as it used to be. At this time of year there is nothing better than Pom bread with butter and sliced local strawberries on top, eaten open-faced. My Dutch mom taught me this, she ate it growing up in Holland. So good. Sorry for the off-topic, it just is all so interesting to me. Back to Becky...

Yeah, that article about the two women who go at least three times a day? It is kind of funny. There's three in my small town of maybe 10,000 people. It's definitely a treat thing for me. If I'm having a bad day, want a little pick me up, I'll splurge. I know two of the places also do flavored water and have sugar free options. I do have a bad habit of drinking too much pop, but I am cheap. I'm fine with a Coke at home.

I'll drink all the alcohol for those who don't imbibe (okay, maybe not ALL). I mean, I want to like alcohol. I didn't drink any until I was forty and all I get is a burning taste in my throat. I'd spend a lot more money on that than sugary drinks trying to figure out what I like. Then there's the getting drunk factor. Knowing when enough is enough. Yeah, I'm like a naive teenage when it comes to imbibing.

What slays me is the "healthy body!" tenet the Mormons have that prohibits caffeine and alcohol but they seem to make up for it by ingesting a lot of liquid sugar. That Word of Wisdom isn't checking out. refugeepea Getting properly drunk takes a certain amount of alcohol although if you aren't used to drinking, you may feel tipsy pretty quickly (and then you'll know it's the right time to step away). I understand your reluctance as you haven't grown in an environment where you were exposed to alcohol use and it's all new (and possibly a bit scary). Maybe you could look online for reviews when you got out on a date night or something? It could be a good way to know that restaurant XYZ does a nice alcoholic drink you could try. Maybe something easy on the tastebuds as you aren't used to it? A simple screwdriver with grenadine, a good mojito (reviews are a great way to find the places that make a decent one), a white wine or cool rosé at a local winery. Baby steps. Just one drink (and don't finish it if you don't like it/don't like the effect it's having on you). Just stay away from peated scotch! My father was an alcoholic (and a violent one) who died from alcoholism (I don't mean liver failure or cancer, I mean umpteenth ethylic coma). I still drink and my mother didn't keep me away from alcohol growing up (away from my father). But I definitely don't overstep tipsiness and don't drink daily (besides that one week between Christmas and NYE, ahem ), even on vacation.

It’s honestly really hard to describe. It has some chew, but it’s also really soft. It’s the best.

So much of it is an acquired taste, and it’s so expensive for something you may not like! I've been known to ask the server for "a girlie drink, bonus points if it has an umbrella" when I don't know what I want All my favourites are fruity and sweet--Mai Tai and Singapore Slings and the like--but I also have an extensive list of stuff I don't like--anything coffee flavoured, any drink with milk. My summer fave is blueberry vodka with iced tea/Arnold Palmer (must be the sweetened, prepared kind, not just cold tea!). My winter favourite is Fireball mixed with hot apple cider. One thing about drinking all the sweet things is that after a while, it gets to be too much sweet, so that either plays out as me no longer drinking anything except for water, or me drinking something like scotch or rye and coke to "cleanse my palate" ... which can really sneak up on you!
