The thing that bothered me in that email was all the capilization....for emphasis obviously...but I really don’t need to be shown what is important! I agree that it seems like she is blaming her big box product failure on PL not being what consumers want rather than looking at the options PL offers and seeing if a change is needed e g square corners, smaller kits, better quality cards etc Maybe rather than reading about herself on this thread she should go read what peolpe are interested in on the scrapbooking board,or look in the gallery to see what people are actually using. Perhaps she could check out the online stores like scrapbook.com and see what is popular/selling out and use that to guide her manufacturing choices

Two is fine since they are double-sided. Smaller kits or more designs in the bigger kits. Plus, selling at the box stores where customers could regularly use a 40% off coupon totally devalued her brand - ain't nobody gonna pay full price for a core kit (or anything else for that matter now)!

There's part of me that wants to go read the email (can't look away from the train wreck) but there's another part that's crying noooo...! I can't read another long winded woe-is-me tale, and especially not if she's using Capital Letters for Emphasis (gah! even doing it to poke fun makes me cringe).
If she is reading this thread, hopefully she can see past the personal stuff (which let's face it, true or not, is hard to read about yourself without going into a spiral) and can listen to what EVERYONE is Asking for: small kits, square corners, tell us where to buy them, show us some people using them in fun or interesting ways. Keep the basics in stock, maybe try producing a basic 9x12" album or a 6x12" album, engage some designers who do good work (like Liz Tamanaha, or someone with a similar classic style), scale back a bit and reconnect with your core audience. Pretend to care about PL again until you actually do.
I'm going to pretend that's what the email said.
(And don't think that just because a couple of random people online ask "where'd you get that bracelet?" that you should sell or market bracelets. Yes, any picture that gets enough eyes on it will yield a few random questions from people who were looking for a rug just like that, or who compliment you on your fugly dress. That's just random chit chat, lady! Some of them are not even followers or fangirls -they're just as likely randos scrolling Instagram and see something that catches their eye. omg. smh.)

Actually there are WHOLE WORDS in capitals joblackford.....don’t look!!! i notice that Heidi Swapp also does the random ALL CAPS as does AE in her handwritten journaling. I assumed it was a scrapbooking thing. I catch myself doing it after watching too many AE videos.

I think that Click collection looks great, but it's nowhere on the Becky Higgins website or blog. Why isn't she promoting it? I don't get it! Because she set clear boundaries with AC ("I *am* the brand, I will remain the brand, I can do what I want" #biggirltantrum) when she went under their umbrella and doesn't give a rat's buttocks nowadays. She's going to tease (sorry, 'TEASE') her followers about this collection on Instagram just before it drops/has dropped and stand by her I-am-a-businesswoman-I-know-what-I-am-doing attitude as always and completely ignore that both the industry and the tech savviness of her consumer core have changed. We can no longer wait until the last minute and go all FOMO to sell stuff these days. People check which products will be released and pre-shop, pre-plan, use social media to get early inspiration from collection designers and/or DT rather than wait and see how things will unfold. And in a dying industry with a serious chance of global recession on the horizon, we have to be smarter and let people know great things are coming so they don't spend elsewhere and find themselves out of budget when our product becomes available for purchase. The other AC umbrella brands understand and apply this. Just look at Crate Paper and Heidi Swapp for renewed successes, release upon release.
Fragile ego, how easily thou art fooled. To think thou knowest when thou clearly dost not.

ETA: No more physical products would mean Becky Higgins gets dropped from American Crafts, right? They wouldn't keep her brand just for digital PL kits. From what I've heard, the deal with a lot of these companies is that they buy the name brand as well. They don't necessarily want her or that particular product, but they buy the name if it still has marquee value and then they boot out the person out of the deal. So the scrapping celeb then rebrands herself and her name so she has something, anything to sell. But after a few times of being acquired by larger companies like AC, who do nothing to promote the name but just want to move product, then their marketing runs out of gas. Perhaps this explains why she's not listening to the customers?

I believe AC has a liscencing or distribution deal but not an ownership in the company.

In Her recent live on Instagram, they addressed the fact that the other Becky is not being bullyed by her and at the end of the video Becky went so far as to say something about her maybe being a mean girl! Another case of sounds like what gets said here!

If she spent half as much time promoting her own products as she does command strips she may not be bawling about these “great changes” 🙄

I especially enjoyed the instastory with the crotch shot of spilled water. Made me want to go out and buy notebooks... did anyone catch the comments on her instagram post about notebooks on sale regarding $9 shipping on $19 worth of notebooks?

And why is Becky talking about frigging command strips while other people are at Creativation showcasing her product? It's like she could give two sh*ts about what looks like some really good physical product. WAKE UP, BECKY! Heidi is there, for God's sake!!

I like the looks of Krista Sahlin’s kit. I can’t believe they mispronounced her name in the instastory. I want to see more of the Daring kit too.

I forgot about the slap heard around the scrapbook world. I love it we have such long memories. I bet our newer members do too. We have the best stories, ROFL! I am laughing so hard about command strips. The fame! I didn't know! I should have done an InstaStory when I bought some from WalMart last week. Yes, her IG post she is definitely lurking over here. Thanks to the cash grabs. AG rebrands constantly. I wouldn't worry about getting PL things because you know how this industry loves to recycle and reband with new artists. AG really, really, really needs some new artists representing their lines. They have to keep Shimelle and Heidi, lol.

Curious as to the marketing reason to show sneaks on insta stories, which disappear after 24 hours, rather than good old plan Instagram? I no longer follow Becky, in part due to the rambling endless stories I have no desire to watch, but if I heard there was something new coming out I might be interested enough to pull up her account and look at pics.

She doesn't know what products they're putting out as clearly evidenced by any PL kit flip-through video they've put out (very few and all were exceptionally crappy quality, random small-time YouTubers do it so much better). In case you need any evidence, please watch the Project 52 Rad kit unboxing she did with Kari who is the product manager and the only one actually in the know at BH about what's going on with PL product (and also the one who mispronounced Krista Sahlin's name despite having had her collaborate several times already #facepalm):
Skip to 10:15 if the timestamp didn't work.
Quoting Becky H. herself:
Becky doesn't know what kits they're releasing, what's in the kits. She does not have some final say or veto vote. She doesn't even care. The product's been designed a year back, manufactured and is finally ready to be released after having been through many checks and even a sample product. She only bothers with it when it's all in the box and ready to be shipped to retailers! It's time to all get on board with what Becky herself is saying: she is not involved with what we all associate her brand with. She is busy with other stuff, y'all. Podcast and Beddy's blankets and her new MegaMcMansion and pilgrim dresses. What core kit? What scrapbooking stuff? Huh?

Wow! How ridiculous. She's so busy 🙄 Pretty sure Jessica Simpson, who has a BILLION dollar brand, still gives the final approval on anything released under her brand.

I’ve never done PL, but I love that new kit, I really do... but BH is just over the top with all this drama and hyped up crap that I’m not even interested in buying. It’s a shame too because if they would’ve promoted it, it would have been exciting and I’d be running out to get it. I follow a lot of companies and I see the excitement with each collection and lots of inspiration to go along with it. PL might be a big name in the industry, but it’s being ruined with every stupid Instagram post or story.

cbscrapper I couldn't watch the video because THOSE EYEBROWS! OMG. I'm sitting on the "catty" bench right next to you. I'm surprised Becky doesn't check in with her designers at all before products are officially released! I understand delegating and allowing other employees to handle the daily communication with designers, answering emails, discussing design ideas, etc., but I think Becky should check-in at different times with her designers. I don't understand Becky's business model at all. I'm still annoyed I couldn't get my hands on the Paige Evans PL kit.

Curious as to the marketing reason to show sneaks on insta stories, which disappear after 24 hours, rather than good old plan Instagram? Agreed. I'm no social media expert but as a user, Stories is not the place I go for important info. If a person is rambling they'd be better off with IGTV than Stories anyway. Both give you the option to save it to your profile as a highlight, but I'd prefer to see something on the Instagram "grid" where I'm not as likely to miss it, and if there's some rambling needed, IGTV is good. Or link to a YT video. Stories isn't very good quality video, and it's awkward with the breaks all the time. I believe though, based on how some people are posting on Stories that they have a new post "on the grid" that some users are missing posts. Personally I miss a lot more Stories than posts, so I don't know. I'm OK with putting important stuff in all the places. I'll skip over the formats I don't like.

Today Becky was at CHA (whatever it’s now called) and was sharing all these random app tips to make quick invites and someone asked her to share new products she’s realeasing at the show and she said, “I’ll do it tomorrow.” She makes zero business sense.

Pick a lane for your company and stick with it. Otherwise you look like you have business adhd. We are very much in the business of listening to our customers... now, sit down and shut up because none of you know anything. I don't know who this person is claiming to be Becky Higgins, but for me, Becky Higgins will forever be the young woman who drew her own fonts and then brought pocket scrapping into my life. She's had some great videos and I will forever love her for what she did accomplish. Wrapping paper? Clothing? Jewelry? Nope nope nope nope nope.

I don't think she'd sold her brand to AC yet. It was the one and only item I bought from there. The Kraft (or was it Jade?) kit that came with a 12x12 binder. It was before she sold to AC. That was the premiere of PL being sold on HSN and Lisa was on there selling the 'Jade' and 'Blush' kits that came with the binder. PL was on QVC long before those kits. The first one was Cherry. (Jan 2010 - Jul 2013) Then came Amber & Turqoise (Jan 2011 - Jul 2013) Then Clementine, Cobalt, Baby Him, Baby Her, Baby Neutral, Olive, Seafoam the next year. It seems to me that there may have been one before Cherry. I think it was something like Project 365? (Like the challenge where you take a photo a day.) Complete List of PL Kits by release date
* I have only read bits and pieces of the thread so if this was covered already, my apologies. It's just that I remember these earliest kits oh so well.
