I admit the closest I come to watching Becky lately is reading this thread and looking at stacks of PL cards in my craft room and wondering WTH was I thinking. So with that said, I'm seriously wondering if she's over compensating for perhaps a failing marriage? Everything she does is a scream for attention and me me me, I I I, and she seems to have surrounded herself with hangers on instead of just taking a step away. Because maybe that step away means she has to face the REAL problems, not the manufactured ones she continually creates?
For the life of me, I don't understand these scrapbook celebrities ... the ones that let it all go to their head are very insecure to begin with and they literally can't soak up enough people saying "oh you're the best ever".

My girls? No, my collegues. My coworkers I don't want her to love me. I'm interested in products; physical products. Sharing is caring...thank you Barney I find it odd when IGers do the "I love you" thing in lives/stories. Um, you don't even know us. WTF does that mean? You love having followers? You love being able to charge more for #sponcon the more followers you have? You love people who fawn over you? What? I care about people I don't know. I wish them well. I wish them peace and health. But I would not say "I Love You" to them. To me, it cheapens the word "love" in a world where Madison Avenue has already knocked it down to a sales slogan.

I watched the last 5 minutes of the video to see what the update is here and she really is struggling. I was struck by the comments coming in during her crying. Some were very fangirl ("WE LOVE YOU" "WE WANT MORE BECKY") while others were firing off product questions, I guess anticipating she was going to pull it back together? It is just unfortunate she keeps putting herself out there in this way. Does she feel more isolated not having her office to go to?
I also thought it was interesting how she said it has been a "terrible 2 years" - it has? I'm not sure what she meant by that. It sounds like money is just running dry for the company. The nice thing for Becky is her husband is a high paid doctor!

She lost her Michael's contract. She wants to expand her brand into lifestyle, like Martha Stewart or Joanna Gaines, but doesn't have a clue how to go about it. It is my assumption that the Mormon Church bankrolls a lot of these types of enterprises, so she might have creditors breathing down her neck. In addition, she has to jump through all of the hoops the Elders are putting high-profile Mormon women through. Maybe perimenopause on top of all that.
In Becky's defense, I would be having a breakdown too. Still, she needs to pull it together, and keep it off the interwebz.

I have a friend who is starting a business and she said she took some classes, got some kind of help? I'm not sure. There's some kind of program they are doing. I think it's more of a how to than we are going to give you money. She could have rich Mormon relatives that have helped her, but the church itself? They'd want their name all over it or at the very least have the PR managed better.

In Becky's defense, I would be having a breakdown too. Still, she needs to pull it together, and keep it off the interwebz. Well not burning bridges would be a good start. I highly doubt that right now the Gaines family knows every little detail of what's going on in their business, but I'm sure that when their popularity boomed, they likely hired people to help them best expand their brand so it was done right. That likely meant compromising on certain details. If Michael's was happy to continue the contract with modifications to her product in order to help it sell better, that was what she was being handed (not fame like the Gaines family, but at least an opportunity to keep her business successful), but because she didn't want to compromise in order to maintain that relationship and decided to turn her social media platforms into religion peddling, she painted her own damned self into a corner. She doesn't want to believe that her religion is a niche market and that devoutly religious people, especially those of her specific cult branch on that tree, are not 99% overlaid with the scrapbooking market on a Venn diagram of the two. In addition to what appears to be a complete and total mental breakdown (that religious ranting is clearly not solving for her), she's delusional about who she wants her target market to be versus the market she found herself in. It actually angers me that she's basically taking the Lauryn Hill approach to her business...'if you don't fit my demographic, go the fuck away'...but then she's taking it a step further by complaining about her business struggles as if the end result was a shock to anyone but her. Forgive me if I've said this before (it is an analogy that I have made somewhere before) but it feels an awful lot like how it felt when I was trying to console a friend over a nasty break up because the guy she had been seeing turned out to be a total douche canoe, but everyone including his own freaking family told her the entire time they were together exactly what was going to happen and surprise, surprise...it did! She had this vision about what she wanted in life and this wolf in sheep's clothing came in to convince her that he was going to give it all to her, but everyone else knew clearly what was going to happen. In Becky's case, she thinks that customers that overlap in the two things she is looking to sell are just going to fall out of the sky and save her business while her customers have been squarely telling her that that simply will not happen. She just didn't want to hear it. She has no one to blame but herself for her professional failures.

I know quite a few successful Mormon entrepreneurs, and this is purely speculation on my part. They seem to have a lot more startup support than the average person.

I think she's way over her head because of this home. I think she used some of her future profits for this new home she's building. I know her DH makes great money. My DH is in construction and we have seen this so many times of the rich building their dream homes, using money they don't have yet and then getting way over their head because of it. The terrible breakdown's remind me of Becky's. I also think that's why she was "stalking" JoAnne like she did last year. I thinks she was hoping for the Gaine's to design her home. I have a feeling she was trying to get a free design for her home and a contact to start her lifestyle brand. Of course, the Gaine's do not care because you know they are F-A-M-O-U-S! I am not trying to be mean but you know their business receives thousands of requests for them to design their homes on a weekly basis. I do think Becky's home was going to be part of her lifestyle brand.
Blaming us because we don't want her lifestyle brand is just WRONG! If she wanted to leave scrapbooking that is fine. If she wanted to try her hand at lifestyle that is fine too. She should have. She was trying to force a square peg into a circle slot. Instead of trying to find new fans she forced us, yes forced us to accept her brand. Let's be honest here most of us don't care about lifestyle brands. We are scrapbookers. That is our hobby and not lifestyle. She should have been out cultivating a new group of people. She does have the social connections with her church.
Also telling her fan base and her customers that we do not understand business is downright rude and arrogant. It makes her come off as a narcissist. That is not somebody I want to buy from. How does Becky know that her customer base is not business savvy? Does she think she's the only business woman in the industry who scrapbooks. I hope some of the scrapbook stores tell her outright they don't feel comfortable carrying her lines since you know they don't know business and she's the only one.
I am going to take one of my favorite quotes from Celebitchy "The narcissism is strong on this one!"

Another thing she kept saying during the live is that no one is printing pictures anymore thanks to the digital age. I do. I print around 150 a month. I don’t actually scrapbook them all but I do print regularly so I don’t get behind. She said we’re all using Facebook as our storage program. Again. How does she know that? Did she do any market research? Back this up with facts please because the number one rule for business owners is don’t assume you know your customer because you do not.

I print photos every week. I print extra photos if there was a special event, something small like a soccer game or something large like a vacation. I print extra if it's for WITL/DITL/DD, etc. I print extra photos if I JUST LIKE THE PHOTOS I TOOK AND WANT THEM ALL. I print photos for the frames on my walls. I print photos for my daughters to put in their lockers at school. I print photos and mail them to grandparents and cousins. I print photos for my husband to bring to work.
I PRINT PHOTOS!

There is definitely a Mormon VC movement - and their funding per deal is enormous. "Who's number one? San Francisco. Who's number two? Silicon Valley. Surprise, surprise. But why did I bold the Utah regions? Mainly because in Utah, the dollar-per-deal averages were staggering. Look at it this way: 1. Provo-Orem, Utah, $51.3 million per deal average 2. San Francisco, $18.4 million per deal average 3. Salt Lake City-Ogden, Utah, $17.2 million per deal average " A lot of that VC money encourages angel money. And we all know that LDS is tight when it comes to connections. So, it's possible BH got LDS VC or angel funds. But more likely her husband's salary funded her startup and she seems too smart to have gone into much debt on her company. So, I think it's more disappointment at not hitting the big IG influencer leagues than worry over debt.

@zingermack You're not playing fair now: Shimelle is an amazing example of how a pro scrapbooker should do social media and online interaction. She knows her brand, she caters to it and keeps just the right amount of boundaries between personal and professional in a business where both get mixed. You can't set the bar so high in a Becky thread! LOL. I love Shimelle.

Did she do any market research? Back this up with facts please because the number one rule for business owners is don’t assume you know your customer because you do not. YES! If you look at everyone in the world, yes, she's sort of right about Fbk. Only a tiny percentage of the photos posted to the internet are posted anywhere other than Fbk. The numbers are staggering - or at least they were the last time I saw statistics. I can't cite anything specific, but it was over 90% of the world's online photos on Fbk, I think. BUT, who cares? She's not trying to sell PL to the whole world, or even the whole of the US. You have to ask what percentage of people who are interested in memory keeping, who have a photo album, who say they want to preserve their family memories, whatever subset of people you define as potential customers print their photos, or maybe want to print their photos. There are still plenty of people who print photos for all kinds of reasons (like dawnnikol listed) and plenty more who might print photos if it was easy and they had something to do with them (like put them in a PL album with attractive square-cornered cards that come in a pack with not too many repeats, that they can buy at a big box store and... blah blah blah...) I guess it's possible that truly not enough people are printing photos any more to support the businesses out there offering PL type solutions. That's a different thing. That might be the sad consequence of a saturated market, partly caused by the eleventy-billion cards in every PL core kit. But talking like that to the few people still around who DO print photos, dismissing them that way, isn't doing her any favors.

I don’t think anything is going on with her marriage or there is some sort of financial backers out there that are pushing her. I think she’s just a woman who’s had “it all” and now she’s not sure what to do when people are sick of her excuses and don’t view her as an influencer. When you make your business something that relies on people’s disposable income, you have to have a top-notch business plan. She doesn’t. No one “needs” PL to survive life, so she should be working hard to keep customers. At one time she didn’t have to, and now she does. She doesn’t like that and the tears are a pity party. Poor Becky.
She frequently says that she and “her girls” (how demeaning) don’t work nights and weekends because it’s important to have time off. I have a Monday-Friday job and sometimes I will respond on the weekend. Sometimes I won’t. Plus, many of her customers work nights and weekends. Sometimes saying less would be better. I don’t think anyone expects a response from PL at 11:00 PM on a Saturday night, because again, it’s not a life sustaining product. No one will die if their PL card doesn’t work in the app slot but saying you want your “girls” to have time with their family is rather annoying to me. I would be surprised if her husband doesn’t have to respond to work sometimes on the weekend. It’s what people do. Sometimes.
She’s a woman who prides herself on perfection, which comes out in the podcast, so much that she is looking fake and hard to relate to. The last podcast I listened to was about parenting the differently abled child and she didn’t add anything to the conversation. She could have given the listener tips on parenting a very needy child who seeks attention. I’m way past needing parenting advice, but it would have been a nice way for her to connect to her audience. Behavior difficulties is my professional world and I was hoping she would have used her platform to talk about it. Nope. That would probably not fit in her need to cultivate a perfect life so she couldn’t/didn’t.
I have to say since cutting the need to wait for her late updates (she can say that they aren’t late but when people are waiting for a digital February product mid-February it’s late) I’ve found so many great designers of cards. It’s been super easy to use them inside the PL app and I’m actually enjoying it more than I thought I would.

All the stranger, then, that the add back is exactly 5 more than the loss especially when the pattern before the loss was losing a few a day. If I were going to buy followers I wouldn’t settle for just okay, I’d go for great so I could reassure everyone about how fine everything is.

Instagram goes after "inauthentic" accounts on the regular but what happened before Valentine's Day was an actual glitch as publicly announced by Instagram. Hope this solves the mystery, @zingermack.

I heard about the glitch from an artist who must've had a freak-out before she declared that she "doesn't care" - she had posted a full body photo of herself standing in front of her artwork and then lost 500 followers! That can't be good for the ego.

She is showing her 2018 pl layouts and she doesn’t really even use filler cards. It’s pictures and green cards with writing. I think this is very telling about how she feels about this hobby. I am not saying it’s not ok to scrap like this however you would think as the owner of the company she would be putting in more effort and showing off more of the products she should be trying to selling. If you looked at her layouts you wouldn’t even think you would need to buy a single extra thing even on her app.

@miss2peas this has been my issue with BH for the past 5 or 6 years. She created this system that she touted as a solution to busy crafters who still want to scrapbook, yet she doesn't use her own products! I can't remember the last time she created a physical product then demonstrated herself using it. It's hard to stand behind a product that the owner/creator doesn't even use; it makes BH appear inauthentic and less credible. If she doesn't have the desire to use her own PL products then sell the brand to a company who can develop the product and move on.

I didn’t know it has been going on that long with her not using her product. I stopped Scrapbooking because of a divorce and going back to school but then I got remarried and had a couple more kids and found her project life stuff. I was going to use them only to add a spot to journal on my regular layouts but I ended up doing pockets pages. I’m grateful it helped push me back into scrapping because I truly enjoy it. However I didn’t start following her a couple years ago or so. I’m mostly a lurker but I’m glad this place is still around because it’s nice to have people who are interested in the same thing you are. ❤️

The main character is in a relationship and is freaking out she's not getting enough likes because she thinks she and her boyfriend are the "it" couple. I kept thinking this cannot be real! That show is an eye opener of how some 20 somethings are obsessed with how they are perceived on social media.

It is not a good sign that Project Life is the Peachy Cheap deal today. Wasn't it supposed to be a big deal that only certain select places were allowed to sell PL?

It’s also not a good look that she and Becky P. are on an international trip that they decided “on a whim” to take. Most of us would have to save/plan for months to do something like that. Don’t be crying on your IG because your business is failing and then traveling across the globe on vacation. She’s obviously flush with cash so it’s not a monetary concern of hers that her business is failing. She doesn’t care about the consumers either so it must all be ego. Meanwhile, still waiting on that app update.

PL has been available through Zulily (another discount retailer) many times before. I would imagine offering PL on Peachy Cheap is a similar tactic to clear out old stock. I’m offended by that map of the US in the Road Trip card set- is it that hard to draw the state lines somewhat accurately or does someone just have it out for California?
