I have had my eye on the Alex drawer unit for some time now. Haven't had a chance to go to Ikea to check it out in person. They come in white and gray. I have black bookcases and desk in my scrap area. What color should I get? Thought I would go to the Peas for their opinion. TIA!
P.S. For those that have this, how do you like it?

I have the wider one that I use to put my printer on. I like it. I use it mostly for storing extra computer paper, labels, photo paper and that kind of thing. I think the color is a personal preference thing, I got the white one because the cubes and some of the other storage things in my studio are white.

I have the taller one and am planning to buy two of the shorter ones in a few weeks. I am very happy with the quality and they were a breeze to put together. It definitely holds alot.

I love mine! I have the taller unit and it holds tons of stuff. I keep my washi tapes in one of the shallow drawers. So easy to see without having to keep it out. Are you sure they don't have the black anymore? That would match your bookcases.

Maybe they have the black cabinets in the store. *crossing fingers*

I have a gray Alex drawer, the lower, wider one. I just got it bcz it fit perfectly in the space I had to hold my printer on top. I love it, I was able to get a lot of stuff in there.
The first drawer I have all my printing papers and other letter size cardstock. Second drawer is all adhesives. Third drawer I keep sorta empty and store current products I want to use. The bottom two drawers are a little deeper than the top, so I was able to stack more stuff. I have all my punches in the fourth drawer, and all my little color coded bins in the bottom (which hold brads, flowers, paperclips, buttons, etc.) I was surprised how much I could fit in it.
I thought there was a black one also?! The gray is a darker gray, so may work ok for you.

I have a tall one and the short one in white. Love them both. Good quality too. If it were me I'd go with white.

When I saw only white & grey on display, I asked an associate who confirmed black was no longer available in either size. I like both the white & grey finishes. IMHO both colors will work in your room; the choice is a matter of personal preference. White will create a more stark contrast to your black furniture, but would not seem as dramatic if the room has white moldings/accents. Grey would likely blend well with your black furniture & compliment most accent colors. Regardless which finish you choose, you could add black chalkboard labels to the drawer fronts & instantly coordinate with your black furniture. HTH & happy shopping!

Wow! Thank you so much for all the replies! I'm disappointed that the black finish is discontinued. But the idea of getting the white and putting chalkboard labels on them sounds like a great idea. Those with the wider Alex drawer unit, can you tell me how deep the bottom drawer is? I was thinking about storing my acrylic paints and mists in there. Otherwise I will have to think of another way to store them. Right now they are in a cardboard box.

The bottom 3 drawers are 3.5" tall... you can't fit any mists or paint bottles on them (I just tried, even the shorter OA sprinklers mists bottles won't fit). Sorry! Having said that, my Alex is the KEY storage item in my whole scrap space. I adore adore it. My cameo sits on mine.

Now what color should I get for the cart? Lol!

Consider adding a drawer spice organizer (from Ikea, Target, BB&B, Container Store, or other retailer) which should enable you to store mists, paints, or bottles containing embellishments in the bottom drawers. Regarding the Raskog cart, all three colors - grey, beige, or turquoise - would work in your room. The grey & beige would undoubtedly coordinate with the existing black furniture, while the turquoise would add a splash of color (& become an accent color that you could easily add throughout the space via print color on labels, desk accessories, etc.)! HTH & happy shopping & organizing!

Maybe I'll paint some other things in the room turquoise so it won't be lonely.

Just got the turquoise cart this weekend. Target has in the one spot a 3-section tray that fits perfectly along one side. It's shallow but will be nice for small things. Michaels had in a seasonal section glass jars similar to mason jars that are squarish. Three fit side by side along the other edge.
I'm so happy being organized!

Great, so I look up that spice rack organizer and decide I not only need it for scrap stuff but for my kitchen as well. How cool is that!

What's that called? I can't find one. I'd like something for the middle. I have the top figured out and I will put "contained" things on the bottom.
