No that’s not how it works with impeachment/resignation. The line of succession doesn’t come into play. The president will always be replaced by the VP in the case if resignation. So if trump resigns first Pence will be Pres. & will appoint a new VP with senate approval. That VP would replace him should he also resign. If Pence goes first, then trump appoints a new VP with senate approval who will replace him. Only way that the speaker would come into play if if they were arrested/impeached/removed simultaneously which is nearly impossible to do. Nice thought though. But Trump or Pence can appoint literally anyone to the position of VP. Could be even worse ( like one of his kids) Article II Section 4: If the president is impeached for treason, the vice president and all civil officers shall be removed. Sorry, that's not what Article II Section 4 says. Here's the text: "The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors." If any of them is impeached and convicted, they are removed, but if only the president is impeached and convicted, he's the only one removed. I've seen the other version going around on Twitter, but it isn't accurate. Unfortunately.

But it wouldn't be treason. I forget the exact terminology, but it doesn't fall under the requirements for treason because of our current relationship with Russia. I don't like burst bubbles!!! ETA: Pence still may have problems, he has closely aligned himself with dt, I mean like a puppet.

Kyle Griffin...
“U.S. spy agencies are seeing signs that North Korea is constructing new missiles at a factory that produced the country’s first intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of reaching the U.S., officials familiar with the intelligence tell WaPo.”
Why do you think a sitting president never personally met old Kim or his father? Because North Korea can’t be trusted & we have been here before. But old art of the deal trump gave old Kim what he wanted and that was a face to face with a US President. And we got the finger in return.

I missed this...... It is a good first step. Republicans Voted to Block Jeff Sessions’ Attacks on Asylum-Seekers Fleeing Domestic Violence“I have great compassion for those victims of domestic violence anywhere,” said GOP Rep. Kevin Yoder. NOAH LANARDJUL. 26, 2018 1:50 PM A bipartisan group of representatives in Congress voted on Wednesday to block part of the Trump administration’s latest attack on migrants entering the country as asylum-seekers. Last month, Attorney General Jeff Sessions used his control over America’s immigration court system to rule that people fleeing domestic and gang violence will rarely be eligible for asylum. On Wednesday afternoon, the House appropriations committee voted across party lines to block the Department of Homeland Security from using any funds to implement Sessions’ decision, which is known as “Matter of A-B-.” The amendment passed by the appropriations committee on Wednesday appears unlikely to become law, and would only apply to DHS, not the immigration courts that are part of Sessions’ Justice Department. But it is still a rare case of Republicans opposing the Trump administration’s attacks on migrants. “It’s a rebuke from the Congress to the attorney general for his interpretation set forth in Matter of A-B-,” says Gregory Chen, the director of government relations for the American Immigration Lawyers Association, a group that represents more than 15,000 attorneys and law professors. “And that is a significant step to recognize, even if it’s just at the committee level.” ** Price made clear on Wednesday that Matter of A-B- is part of broader attack on asylum seekers. “It’s just one of the many heartless steps the Trump administration has taken to abandon our country’s promise to be a source of refuge for those escaping persecution and oppression,” he said. Rep. John Carter (R-Texas) spoke briefly to oppose the measure. But no members could be heard saying “nay” when the amendment was put to a voice vote. Chen was a bit surprised. “We did not expect that there would be agreement on this amendment in the way it passed without significant objection,” he says. ** www.motherjones.com/politics/2018/07/republicans-voted-to-block-jeff-sessions-attacks-on-asylum-seekers-fleeing-domestic-violence/

linkThe Washington Post... “Trump administration considers tax cut for the wealthy”
From the article... “The Treasury Department is considering a tax cut for the wealthiest Americans through a change that would not need approval from Congress, officials said, a move that would follow a package of tax cuts last year that also benefited the super-rich. The agency is studying whether to allow investment income, known as capital gains, to be adjusted for inflation in a way that shields more of it from taxation. Most capital gains are paid by wealthier Americans, who disproportionately hold large portfolios of investments. But the use of executive power on such a significant change to the tax law would be highly unusual and could be vulnerable to a legal challenge. Senior administration officials have discussed whether to proceed but have not concluded they have legal authority to do so. The move was rejected during the George H.W. Bush administration because it was seen as outside the scope of Treasury’s authority and only attainable via an act of Congress.” Is anyone surprised by this?

thehill.com/homenews/399499-florida-gop-candidate-teaches-child-to-build-the-wall-with-blocks-in-new-adRep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) released an advertisement for his gubernatorial campaign on Monday in which he shows his support for President Trump by teaching his child to "build the wall" with blocks.
"Everyone knows my husband Ron DeSantis is endorsed by President Trump," DeSantis's wife, Casey DeSantis, says to open the ad. "But he’s also an amazing dad. Ron loves playin' with the kids."
The clip then features Ron DeSantis saying "build the wall" as his child places blocks atop one another. The candidate also reads "The Art of The Deal" to a child and teaches another how to talk by saying "Make America Great Again." These fucking guys. Sounds like a snl skit. Don't they get how hateful what they are doing is?

It's coming down to a stark choice for Americans, do you want to tax the m/billionaires to provide services for those w/needs (medicaid, medicare, schools, courts, roads, law enforcement, food safety, etc.) OR do you want to tax the middle class, let the m/billionaires TAKE HOME EVEN MORE MILLIONS PER YEAR and CUT THE EVER LOVING SHIT OUT OF SERVICES MOST PEOPLE NEED AT SOME POINT IN THEIR LIVES!?!?!??!?!?!

Could someone more economy-minded than me explain the significance of this, please? Thanks There are a lot of good responses in the replies to the original tweet. It's not a huge amount (Russian debt held is tiny compared to China, Japan, etc.). But it might mean they're afraid of sanctions and want to get the money out while the getting is good. There are other possibilities listed in the replies.

Kurt Eichenwald...
“GOP “cared” about deficits until they could cut taxes and increase spending all themselves, once again blowing up red ink.
Just like right wing evangelical “Christians” also “cared” about morality until they decided the most immoral president in history was a path to power.”
Truer words were never tweeted!

Somehow in trump’s feeble little mind, this...
“SAN DIEGO -- A U.S. judge commended the Trump administration Friday for reunifying families with their children after they were separated at the Mexico border. But he warned that a better system must be put in place because hundreds of families have yet to be reunited.
U.S. District Judge Dana Sabraw said the government gets "great credit" after reunifying more than 1,800 children 5 and over with parents or sponsors by Thursday's court-imposed deadline.
He pointed out that many of the families were reunited while in custody then turned his attention to 431 children whose parents have been deported.
"The government is at fault for losing several hundred parents in the process and that's where we go next," the judge said. “
Became this...
trump..
“A highly respected Federal judge today stated that the “Trump Administration gets great credit” for reuniting illegal families. Thank you, and please look at the previous administrations record - not good!”
Unbelievable.

And now Trump is declaring Twitter war on the Koch Brothers. I saw a good twitter comment on this - the Republican Party is becoming the Donner Party.
He called them "globalists" (code word for Jews if you weren't aware) and they aren't "REAL" Republicans. As I have said ever since the election, Trump is not an aberration in the Republican party. He's not an outsider or an interloper in the Republican Party. Once he got the nomination, he became the Republican party. He owns it now. He IS the party. To question or criticize Trump means that you are no longer a "real" Republican. Trump IS the Republican party.

This morning he said that they have always been more libertarian so it’s natural that they won’t agree with all republican policies. On that note....i often wonder how CNN hires their commentators, particularly the Trump supporters. I wish there were some that were not 100% for trump. I would have more respect for their opinions if they were able to disagree with him on some things.

This was I believe in response to the Koch brothers declaring they would not be supporting Kevin Cramer (R) in his senate bid in North Dakota.

He can go after them all he wants, and they've got the resources & temperament to go right back. It could be fun to watch and maybe even sway some voters.

This was I believe in response to the Koch brothers declaring they would not be supporting Kevin Cramer (R) in his senate bid in North Dakota.
The Koch Network had their annual meeting over the weekend and had some very strongly worded criticism for president Trump. They even went to far as to say they'd support candidates on both sides of the aisles who support free trade and are pro-immigration (criticism of the tariffs and Trump's "zero tolerance" policy). That's what prompted Trump's meltdown, I think. Republicans everywhere have been put on notice that if they want Koch money, they can't support those policies.

“The Fake News Media is going CRAZY! They are totally unhinged and in many ways, after witnessing first hand the damage they do to so many innocent and decent people, I enjoy watching. In 7 years, when I am no longer in office, their ratings will dry up and they will be gone!”
Another example of why trump should never have been elected.
