To make even better instead of salting the rim, make salt air. It is a salted foam that takes it to a whole new level:
4 ounces of water (we learned warm is better) 2 ounces of lime juice 1 1/2 teaspoons of Sucro 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt
the directions say to use an immersion blender to mix and make the foam, but we use a cocktail shaker usually.

Love thick salt on the rim. Might be part deer. I'll have to try this for others in my house who don't feel the same way as I do.

You need to substitute agave for honey and Cointreau for triple sec if you want to win an award. My favorite tequila in a margarita us Forteleza blanco. ITA!! This has been my recipe for SO many years!!!! My fav tequila has been Cabo Wabo.
ETA: Regarding the Skinnygirl Margaritas, many years ago my best friend & I didn't care for the sugary mixes for margaritas, so we created our own "diet" version of a margarita using Crystal Lite lemonade (pink or yellow) and mixed it with tequila. BAM. It was pretty darned good!!
Also, I like good tequila in my margarita, even though it should be used as a sipping tequila only. I'd rather have more tequila and less mix in my drink. If I'm out at a restaurant or bar (on those VERY rare occasions) and I'm drinking, I'll order a side shot of tequila and add it to the margarita, because they never make it strong enough. But I tend to just have a shot of good tequila and skip the extra sugar and crap, the older I get. (I RARELY even drink alcohol these days!!).
I also had a great recipe for making my own mango margaritas, topped with a baby scoop of mango sorbet. It was like a meal!

Get salt with each sip.
