I finally made it through the video and am feeling very underwhelmed. And what’s with those giant numbers? Crazy!

I finally made it through the video and am feeling very underwhelmed. And what’s with those giant numbers? Crazy! Cannot make myself sit through that video - I tried to speed it along and saw a couple items but I'm just way too busy this week to hear about DD stuff for an hour. Why is this the chosen format? I would love to see some photos.

That black paper with the white writing really stands out! I like that. Not a kraft fan so the rest of it doesn't do much for me. DD this year is looking a bit bleak.

I agree nicolep. Very unexciting. Good thing I have some OA papers and embellishments I plan to use this year. Just undecided about the album. I have one of Ali's from last year but think the Simple Stories one might actually be a better fit for the OA. Decisions decisions!

I am a fan of craft mixed with the red/green/black/white for Christmas. Since this is Carta Bella I can just get what I want by the piece I assume.

So I got some fancy (wool) felt today that I ordered off Etsy. Going to try and make the big 25 from Ali's kit. Anyone know what font that is that she used?

I bought Elle's kit yesterday, I don't LOVE it, but like it more than other sneaks Ive seen. I usually buy two kits and mix them up anyway.

I’m liking that clique kits/kraft look. Since that’s got carts Bella in it and Citrus twist had carts Bella last year, maybe they’ll put this in this years kit. Fingers crossed.

I used a standard Simple Stories Snap album one year for DD as I missed all of Ali's albums that year. It was a yellow/white stripe affair, very cute. Great for a summery Australian Christmas. It is shorter than my 6x8 albums by Ali/SC and it was significantly smaller in the spine/ring area. I did have to cram everything in, but I am the lumpy, bumpy DD type scrapper. The spine seems to measure 2 inches versus my Ali ones which measure 2.5 inches (these measurements are approximate). Hopefully this helps someone. I have asked for the spine measurement of the new Simple Stories album at scrapbook.com in case I decide to go that way...annoyingly scrapbook.com is out of the variety pack of 6x8 pps!
Hey fellow Aussie! My first DD’s were all in the standard snap binders which was a squeeze. The last three I’ve used two simple stories Xmas albums and one Ali and the ring size is the same on all three. The new Christmas one will be the same. I went to buy the variety pack yesterday too! I hope they get more soon.

What company made the album with the ginormous spine?! nicolep , I did I blogged about it here (where there's a link to the original source) I'm afraid I never have ideas of my own and am always "inspired by" someone else!! Sorry, also meant to say that I too loved sleepingbooty's wonderful outline of the video, which I gave up on around the five minute mark. Thanks for the giggle this morning!

I bought the kit yesterday as well and later bought a few more things (I was at work when it went on sale and had no idea if they’d sell out, lol). I also bought a few things from Scrapbook.com last night and ordered an ATG from Amazon today. Yikes!

So I watched the video again and made a list of everything I love
It comes to $126 before the main kit or mini kit if I was to love them it’s more than $200
Obviously I don’t have to buy everything I love
But that’s everything I really love, I should be able to reasonable buy everything I love
I just feel priced out and like maybe I should just walk away from ordering anything at all

Here's my 2 cents about the price increase with Ali -
I am ok if she wants to charge more for items. If I like the item and think the value is there, there I will buy. What I AM NOT ok with is the flat shipping charge. If I only want one set of alphabets that is $3.99 and you charge me $10 to ship - well, thats over the top and just flat ass greedy because she is pocketing the difference in what it should cost for shipping.
Sorry, Ali. This is your biggest money grab yet, and I refuse to play. For me, this is just another fuck up because she is in bed with Inked.

I don’t mind the shipping cause for international with one album you’d be paying more in shipping, but what I hate is things like the large rubber pieces, I super want the tree, I half want the 25 I don’t want the tag, and the same goes for the chipboard sets, the sticker sets the puffy stickers, plus the 2 sets of something on many bundles, I just would rather one set of many items than having to pick and choose and having two sets of my top choice. also I agree for small items there should not be flat rate shipping

I am not sure what to make of the shipping. I have always bought enough to get free shipping and know I probably will this year too so I was kind of bothered by the fee. I will say that even though Ali is under Inked I think her shipping prices are way better than Studio Calico.

For those of you that want to order just small add-ons from Ali... I THINK there is a solution to get around the shipping. Of course, it only works if things don't sell out. But last year after the "order selection period" ended, whatever was left was merged into the regular shop and sold with regular shipping/cart rules. The order selection period ends September 30, so my guess is if you wait until October 1 to place your order you will get the regular shipping deals.
But still, this is assuming they leave stuff up in the shop (like they have in years past) and that things don't sell out. Plus, you can't order until October 1 and then it will ship like any other shop order--depending on if you're international and if you do foundation pages, this could create timing issues but hopefully would still get the product to you before December. So definitely not a strategy I would bank on, but a possibility to keep in mind.

impearia lovely to see you! I watched the video with Layle Koncar introducing the Simple Stories collection and she mentioned the album has 2" rings. I measured the rings in Ali's album from last year and that was also 2" so I think that's the album I'll get this year. Hello anniefb lovely to see you as well! How is NZ these days? We are all joking over in Australia that you guys are showing us up with your amazing female Prime Minister!
Thank you for the information; I will probably go with the SS one if I don't end up loving Ali's kit this year which would mean I might not order from her at all. I am weighing up my best plan of shipping action, haha!

Ali knows she's the queen of December albums these days and has established her market power. So, guess what? Now, there's a buy-in to play. Yeah, no thanks. I'm a customer, not someone who feels the need to make it into the exclusive clique.
I just feel priced out and like maybe I should just walk away from ordering anything at all You shouldn't feel bad about walking away if that's what suits you and your budget the best. It's totally ok not to spend a crazy amount of money on a 1-month album even if you earn a decent living.
Fun part of not ordering anything from Ali this year? Money's been freed up to buy elsewhere! I get to buy the Crate Paper line and any album I want without feeling any guilt about it. Yay!
Anybody know whether these wood album covers match Inked's page protectors? I asked ten days ago on the website but haven't heard back yet. It would be such a pretty and cost-effective album option for DD. With gold rings.

You'll have to play with some cheap paper beforehand to figure out what the right proportions are when selecting the two different font sizes to superpose. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

Thanks for sharing this! I didn't even know she did kits. $60 is much closer to what I'd want to spend and it seems like plenty of stuff without being over the top. Does anyone know if Simple Stories uses consistent color palettes year to year? (or is Doodlebug the only company that really does that?) I have some stuff from last year's Simple Stories Christmas line (the one Layle used with the wood printed album) and I'm wondering if it will play nicely with this year's stuff if I buy Layle's kit...? I guess maybe I could ask her on Instagram.

Hmmm $5 is better. I didn't order a lot last year, my shipping last year was $4. If I do order sleepingbooty I'd be happy to order 2 kits and post yours to you. Aww, that's kind. *black heart softens* But you've already done enough this year. You've definitely made Santa's Nice list! sleepingbooty YOU ARE HILARIOUS!!! Missed you and LOVED your AE video rundown lol!! You give me far too much credit! It's easy being funny when the source material is hilarious. The jokes and gifs to look up were writing themselves... *holds up transparency to boobs*
I was considering using a simple stories planner (they are 6 ring) as my album for a different style, but the rings are soooo narrow. I think I could simplify and use mostly flat embellishments or hybrid layouts, plus only 1 page per day... but do you think I could still fit 25 days + a cover page? ETA: This is the planner I have simple stories plannerIf you are going hybrid and staying in the flat embellishment zone (my specialty), you should be fine with fitting 25 days in that beautiful green planner. What bulks up DD albums is usually wood veneer, chipboard on every page, thick cork and rubber, embellished paper clips (velvet bows and whatnot). If you're more into stamping, stickers, occasional chipboard piece, paper and photos + journaling, you won't outgrow those rings by the end of the month.
I watched the video and realized by the end that I was so bored I had been browsing the internet vaguely listening to it. It was a struggle to resist the temptation of the + button. "Do not open a new tab. Do not open a new tab. Do not open a new tab. Sinon, t'es foutue."
Love, love, LOVE the Festivus card. I feel like we just need some spaghetti and this thread is Festivus-worthy in itself. Definitely some serious airing of grievances happening right now.

This may be my first year passing on anything from DD unless I love Liz’s or Ali’s kits a whole lot. Prices are higher this year and not really my colors this year. I still have almost all of AE’s kit from last year, plus Ali’s 2015 Kit, plus almost all of Liz’s from the last two years, 2 Jasmine kits from 2016, 2 of the one with the gold embossed cards and white clothes pins (cannot remember her name), 2 GB 2017 complete , and 2 FJ 2016 Christmas kits). Plus, lots of other crap. I looked at my stuff last night and really felt guilty having so much unused stuff. I do finish my albums almost each year, but so much goes to waste. Edited to add: if I have 2 of a kit, it’s because I bought them during a huge sale and did not pay full price. 😉

nicolep - did you receive your FJ albums yet? Are you planning on using one of them for Christmas this year? If so, I have an extra set of the acrylic dividers that fit in that album that I think came in the FJ kit that year. You are welcome to them if you want them. they are pretty! You could probably google it to look at them.

So I watched Ali's Facebook live -
And a few "unpopular opinions" based on stuff I'm reading on here:
1. First I see a few people making fun of her voice - but as a woman who is also 5'9" and also has a deep voice for a woman - I actually like that Ali does not have a high voice and doesn't constantly apologize and say "like" and have all of the other common but unfortunate female speaking voice tics. Two thumbs up for tall girls with deep voices
2. I don't mind the Facebook live format as a replay. I found the video quality of the replay video on her blog to be fine.
3. I think she is offering a lot of interesting products meant to appeal to a wide variety of crafters. Unfortunately, as the scrapbook industry contracts there are fewer and fewer companies offering anything really new or different. So I appreciate her efforts to give her customers choices, while sticking to a familiar design feel. So far I have not seen any other companies release anything like the oversized rubber shapes, 6 to 8 different designs of transparencies, 6in numbers, or holiday silk screens. Is everything my style - of course not. But that's what makes crafting fun - we don't all have to love the same thing or do the same thing
4. And finally on prices - yes, I agree I think Ali is charging a healthy mark-up on a lot of these products, but she is also taking on a significant risk that stuff may not sell and she may end up with a garage full of embossed tags. People on here seem to think Ali is like Walmart or Amazon - when in reality she is a small business owner in an industry with I suspect very tight profit margins. Although I think she makes good money with the subscriptions, I think December Daily is probably important to her overall bottom line. Plus she is offering a boutique style product. All of us can walk into Hobby Lobby tomorrow and buy some mass-produced holiday scrapbook paper line and a cheap album and call it a day. But clearly we are not that crowd - we are a crowd that spends our evening chatting on a scrapbook message board that is a tribute to a long defunct scrapbook company. So like everyone else I'm not rich and I also want to feel like I'm getting a good value - and after all it is just paper - but to me at least I think her prices are pretty reasonable for what she is offering.
5. My only criticisms are I wish she was offering more album choices, and I wish she would go back to offering the main kit with an album included. I'm a fan of just getting a kit with everything included and then using my stash to fill in gaps. I'm not excited about having to deal with sales drama and scrolling through the site just to get the main kit and the album - all I really want.
That's it
