Today I went to a church rummage sale and got 3 LM Alcott books for 1.00. They are from 1940 and have such beautiful artwork in them, I am really excited,
I also got a double set of a fort making kit for 5.00, the identical set sells for 44.00 on Amazon, and I got two, never opened. I can’t wait to play with it! I was thinking maybe the cats and I might make a fort tonight -my husband is out of town and I won’t see my nephew or any other children who will play with me until this weekend.

Was killing time in the little thrift store near my town this morning and heard that it is apparent national thrift store day today. Darn it all, I have to go through the city for a meeting tonight. Taking off work early....

The one that is near my favorite thrift store!

Today is National Thrift Store Day... did anyone celebrate by shopping? I bought a vintage green wool winter coat, a MCM brass duck head cane, and a few vintage sheets.

I bought a pair of Talbots pants that looked like they had never been worn (and they were 50% off, which I didn't find out till I got to the register), five tiki mugs from four different stores, a Crate & Barrel Christmas plate, a steel cash box, and several containers of never-used Stampin' Up stamps.

I didn't realize it was National Thrift Store Day, but I did go. I bought some knick knacks priced between .49 and .99 each. I also bought 2 hand blown miniature pitchers for $1.99 each. My biggest bargain of the week was my admission to Six Flags. They were running a promotion where if you brought 20 school supplies you could get in free. It's a good thing admission was a bargain because parking was $25! No auction for me tonight because my husband has the car and some of the kids and I can't drive his truck. I did go to an auction with my sister last night. I've been to that one before. I was tired so I was too slow on some bidding so I missed a few things. This auction has a 10% buyers premium plus state sales tax. So, for less than $5 I bought a Smith Corona Typewriter in its case and a box lot. The box lot is still in the trunk because of all the rain we keep having. I bought the lot because of a big piece of fabric with sailboats on it. I don't even know what else besides some buttons and a pair of bronze baby shoes are in the box. I'll come back and share what else there is when I find out. I'm jealous of your Stampin Up Stamps, chendra . @skellinton did you build your fort?

Went to an auction Friday night with my sister. I picked up 3 cartons of vinyls for like $40. No clue how many but a huge number. There were also a bunch of 45s which isn’t as common. Most were 70s and 80s. The wild things were vinyls geared towards different grades and were like gym class. Twirl your arms. Raise your shoulders. Another was a small book of bird sounds from coast to coast. Dated 1964 and was from the National Geographic Society. The book opened and had the vinyl in the book which you would just open and fold back and place on the record player.

I love old school records, I have one that is called Chicken Fat, it was something from JFK’s presidency. Are any of the albums Hap Palmer? He did a lot of kids movement records.

kkooch, that is a fun find! I love buying old records, especially bluegrass and small independent country artists. I’ve been told my collection specializes in “cheesey music no one wants”.

Wow, kkooch, that's so cool. I never knew there were records that you could do that with. You learn something new everyday on the peas.

So here are a couple of the exercise records. You’ll see one is elementary vs secondary. I wonder how long I’d last lol. Did a quick count of 45s and it was just under 100 of them!!! I think I’ll move the small record player in the kitchen tonight if I end up baking.

i've been looking for awhile and haven't found a decent sheet anywhere I don't see them around here either. Probably all the bloggers and their followers bought them up since upcycling vintage sheets has been a thing for a few years now. Whenever I am looking for monogrammed items I can never find an "S". I've sworn for years that Martha Stewart bought them all.

I stopped at Salvation Army on my way to work this morning and picked up: 3 vintage juice glasses at .49 cents each, and a set of vintage, never used, Tupperware measuring cups for .99 cents. I am psyched about the measuring cups, I plan on buying every reasonably priced vintage Tupperware measuring cup set I can find so all of the kids can have a set. They are my favorite because of the spot where you can put your thumb.
On the way home from work I stopped at Goodwill and made a score. A carriage was just brought out from the backroom and the things in it were being put on the shelves. I got 2 genuine, large Coach purses tagged $4.99 each and I got the senior discount as well. Woot Woot.

ginacivey, it’s funny how the thrifting finds seem to ebb and flow! Are you looking for particular colours/styles?

I went to Salvation Army yesterday because when I was there the day before I couldn't tell if a family was loading or unloading a beautiful patio set. It wasn't there went I went yesterday. But, guys were unloading the SA truck which was full of furniture. I spotted a chair that piqued my interest. At first glance it reminds you of a director's chair. Same kind of back and seat. The body of it is metal and instead of the legs crisscrossing in the middle they curve and meet in the middle. It is solid and does not fold like a director's chair. The color matches my love seat, so I bought it for $4.99. Everyone in the family likes it, so I did good.

i feel kinda guilty buying ANOTHER one of these types of typewriters but it's by far my favorite brand and style. it types so quiet and smooth and is in excellent condition. it even has all of the service receipts and paperwork. the lady who owned it rented it for $6/month and took great care of it.

I found a doll house for $20 yesterday at a local thrift store. It's just about the perfect size for the furniture I've been making with my Glowforge. So happy, I think my granddaughter will love it.

camomoftwins, If I was your granddaughter I would love the dollhouse. Please tell me more about the furniture you're making. I’m cutting it from a really thin wood called “luan” from Home Depot. The pieces slide right into each other! I do have it give it a light sanding before assembling them.

I went to an auction tonight and on the way home I realized that I never did finish telling you what else I didn't list from my box lot last week. It was a large vintage stuffed animal. It has a rubbery face. It's a rabbit. I think I may try to throw it in the washing machine. It's cute but the fur could use a little brightening and fluffing. It would be cute to display at Easter.
I went to the same auction tonight. I got some box lots and other things that I'll tell you about tomorrow. Too many mosquitoes outside to look through the boxes.
One of the ladies I've done volunteering with at school has a tag sale running right now. She started it on Thursday. I was excited because she is a big couponer and I was looking forward to buying some of the stuff I normally buy but at deep discounts. I was bummed that she didn't have any of the usual stuff we buy this time.
I did console myself with other purchases to the tune of $19. I ended up with:
- 3 pair of brand name gym shorts for my youngest in their school colors
- Red Sox string bag
- Westmoreland vintage dish
- wire rack to hang inside cabinet to hold canned goods
- 3 Vera Bradley purses
Good luck to anyone heading out this weekend.
