...when and what hair product do you use?
I’ve just started doing this and straightening or curling my hair in the morning. When I cut it especially I need some staying power, but I have no idea what to use on dry hair. Or should I put mousse in the night before when it’s still wet?
I air dry it at night, if that matters. Hair is a couple of inches below my shoulders and a decent thickness but doesn’t hold a style well without and product.
Thanks!

I would always wet it again in the am. It didn’t take as long to dry as freshly washed and then I got the added benefit of volume from the blow dry. My hair is pretty fine and straight so it ends up really flat after sleeping on it.

My hair is curly. I plop it at night and just unwrap and go in the morning. I don’t apply any product in the morning.

Mine has been fine in the morning after sleeping on it, so I don’t really want to rewet it. If I do, I already know I will do nothing to it and let it air dry in the car on the way to work. Already dry, I’ve been straightening it in the morning and it looks a million times nicer. I just need something on the days I’m going to curl it so it will hold.

This might sound like heresy but I have a curling iron from the salon and it gets really hot. I have to be careful with it at all times. I really like it. I also use Paul Mitchell hair spray. It’s not expensive nor drugstore either. Mousse makes my hair more grabby if I use the curling iron for sure. I think I get a better hold as well. I don’t have any mousse that I like at the moment. The kind I did have gave me a headache because it felt like it was pulling my head the entire day. I do have a spray in something from Sally’s and I have some lightweight gel that is good, too. They are both decent.

I use smoothing balm at night and then air dry it. Then in the morning a little heat protectant spray and a quick once over with a flat iron. But I don’t wash every day and I don’t style on my off days, just a brush and go.

I have fine, wavy/curly hair and wash it every night, then let air dry. If I want to style it curly, I will put in a curly conditioner when I get out of the shower, and scrunch it with a turbo towel to help it dry. In the morning, I get my hair damp, then put in curling gel and scrunch and dry using a blow dryer and diffuser.
If I'm going to flat iron the next day, I just air dry the night before. In the morning I spritz with a heat protectant that also takes the frizz out, then use the flat iron.

I prefer to put styling product in while hair is wet so it spreads more evenly. My fave right now is Paul Mitchell Volume Whip. Then in the morning I would put a few drops of Biosilk Silk Terapy Lite on each section as I curl or straighten.

I either air dry or use a dryer at night, then flat iron before bed. Otherwise my hair will be unruly in the morning. I rarely do anything but run a brush through my hair in the morning. Once it's flat ironed it's fine. I don't use product in my hair unless I'm in severe humidity.

I shower but don’t wash my hair at all at night. If I sleep on wet hair it looks like crap in the morning. If I sleep on dry hair it looks like crap in the morning. I don’t use any product and I don’t typically blow dry, never curl it, straighten it or anything other than run a brush or comb through it.
The only way it will look decent is if it’s freshly washed, so I wash it in the laundry room sink in the morning, towel dry it and run a brush through it while DD is eating her breakfast and then let it air dry. I have too many other things going on to spend 15-20 minutes in the shower at that time of day, but I do have 3 minutes to wash my hair so that’s what I do. By the time I’m ready to leave the house, it’s almost dry most days. I only resort to using a blow dryer if it’s really cold in the winter. I have short hair and it works for me. I had to LOL when my neighbor told me she does the exact same thing!

Any heat protectant spray recommendations? I have long, straight, avgerage thickness Asian hair.

I'd use a hair oil while it's still wet then a heat protection spray before straightening.

I hate washing my hair at night. If I sleep with it wet, it’s still wet in the morning. And if I dry it before laying down, it’s crappy in the morning. My hair only does good when I wash and blow dry all in the morning. Even if I wash and let air dry, it takes about 6-8 hours to air dry it’s so thick. I did this on Sunday, but I didn’t leave the house all day, so it didn’t bother me too much.
I straighten my hair daily, and never use a heat protectant. I never have any issues. I just don’t hold the iron on my hair very long, just slick each section down and be done. My salon doesn’t use protectant either on my hair.
