I’ve been wanting to ask this for awhile but was just reminded after watching my son wash his hands...
My DH shakes his hands vigorously after washing them. It leaves water marks all over the mirror and it drives me crazy. Some of my kids do it as well. I thought this was unique to them until I saw a woman doing it in the work bathroom.
I lightly shake my hands over the sink, but not enough to make a mess.
I’m curious what the peas do?

No. They may drip on my way to whatever I'm using to dry them. But no shaking.

I opened this thread just to write "ARE YOU MY HUSBAND? THEN THE ANSWER IS YES, WITH GREAT VIGOR." Imagine my feeling of community when I saw what you wrote.
It makes me absolutely psychotic. He also seems unable to see the water he has just shaken all over the kitchen counter (it legitimately goes as far as 2 feet away) or the huge mess it's making on the mirror in the bathroom.
I do give my hands a little shake after washing them, but it's more of a flick, and it's done down in the sink. NOT FOR DH. It must start from 2 feet above the sink and the hands must move a minimum of 12 inches in each direction.
GIRL I FEEL YOU.

I shake my hands 12 times and use a paper towel folded in half after a very enthusiastic presentation from our HR department on how to cut down on using paper towels.

And GOD FORBID someone use a paper towel to wipe down the water he has just shaken upon all my freshly cleaned surfaces. Apparently when we use paper towels, we're only allowed to use one tiny square. Anything more would be wasteful. And it will be soaking wet before he will throw it away, so it IS NOT DRYING THE COUNTERTOP. It is simply spreading the water more evenly, so it can leave nice even water marks on the counter. But also, don't use the kitchen hand towel, because that is FOR HANDS, NOT SURFACES, according to him.
I swear, he honestly must not understand that water (especially hard water like we have) pits and mars surfaces and ATTRACTS grime. I really think he thinks it's "just water, it will dry."
WHY DOES NO ONE TELL YOU THIS BEFORE YOU GET MARRIED.

No, why make a mess while trying to clean up? It isn't logical.

Only in a public restroom with no paper towels. I’ll shake them, then wipe them on my pants. I won’t do that if I have a towel, or paper towels.

WHY DOES NO ONE TELL YOU THIS BEFORE YOU GET MARRIED. I try to avoid the downstairs bathroom (the one that DH primarily uses) for several reasons, but this is one of the main reasons. When I see the kids doing it I correct them but I’m not sure it sinks in. Oldest DS does it a lot, but for Fortunately he uses the downstairs bathroom as well.

I totally misread this while scanning the board. I thought you meant did I shake hands (ie with someone) after washing them. I was going to answer that no I preferred not to shake hands after I wash them but sometimes I have to. LOL.

No. I nipped that in the bud when the kids were little. Now if I could just convince DH to shut the doors/cabinets all the way, I could die a happy woman.

Not vigorously. Just enough so I don't drop as I reach for the towel.

Only when there is nothing there to dry them on besides my pants. Like today, when I was helping my friend get stuff ready for a garage sale. My hands got so dusty and gross I wanted to quickly rinse/wash them with the hose in the back yard to rinse off some of the grime. No towels there in that situation, so I shook off most of the water and dried them on my shorts. Not the best option, but you do what you have to do. (And I wasn’t wearing good clothes either on purpose.) I knew my hands were just going to get dirty again right away so I didn’t bother going in the house to wash them properly until I was ready to leave and was done with that mess.

DH was in the ICU for almost a week last month with sepsis (amongst other issues) and ever since then I ditched our bathroom hand towels and put in a roll of paper towels, lots of hand wash + hand sanitizer. Better safe than sorry!
I DO get it, about the spots on the mirrors and counters, etc, from wet and soapy hands. At least he's washing his hands, right?

My hand towels are too but I don't like to even get a few drops on my counter as I reach for the towel. I don't even realize I'm doing that quick flick of my fingers before I reach for my towel.

I’m a flicker in the sink. And if there is no towel near by I’ll flick the rest on our cat if he’s near by, don’t know why that’s become a thing, but I guess it’s the way I pay him back for meowing at 5am. Our other cat doesn’t mind it but he’s not a punk so I try not to do it to him much.
Boy-friend doesn’t shake at all and just lets the water drip off his hands making a water drop trail from the kitchen to the bathroom...sigh

Yes, I shake my hands into the basin. No, I don't leave splatters everywhere. I would rather use a hand towel than a paper towel, and I hate air-dryers. DH is trained the same way, but he makes up for the splatters when he wet shaves.

I do, but only in public restrooms (regardless of whether they have paper towels), I find that if I shake vigorously, I only need one paper towel to dry my hands, so I feel like I'm being less wasteful than using 3 paper towels.
At home, I don't shake, I just use a hand towel.

i think my husband did this when we first got married. the first time i noticed, i said, "you can't do that!" (because of the mess it makes and all) he stopped doing it right away! wish that worked with all the other annoying things he does!

I think I'd be handing them a bottle of windex and a rag to clean the mirror.

i can see how it would be annoying
but the silver lining is - he's washing his hands
i have a 'husband handwashing' issue too
my husband will call out a dude in a public restroom for NOT washing
he's mildly obsessed with after bathroom hygiene

I don’t do it at home.
I do it in public restrooms that only have the stupid, dirty air dryers. I hate those and won’t use them, so I shake my hands.

Never occurred to me to shake them at home or at work, likely b/c towels are quite close to the sinks.
The only time I shake after washing is if there is no way to dry my hands.
