I had a bad cavity in my tooth a few weeks back, and while eating, a big chunk of the tooth came out. I was out of town right then, not close to my regular dentist, so I went to a different dentist and got a temporary filling.
I went to my regular dentist to get a permanent filling when I came home, and she said the tooth next to it had a bad cavity aswell, and I should prioritize getting that one fixed. So I told her to go ahead and fix the one that she told me I should prioritize.
When I returned home my tooth had started to ache. Bad! Eating anything below room temperature was out of the question because of the intense pain that would last for 5-10 seconds.
I got a new appointment with my dentist and said she had to put in a permanent filling where the temporary one was, and make the pain go away. After finishing the dental work, she commented that I was VERY close to getting a root canal.
So on my way I go, still some local numbing in my tooth so I didn't feel much of anything. But I figured the pain would go away now that it was all fixed.
Sadly, no. After the numbing had worn off a few hours later I tested to drink some cold water. It was less paiin than before, but still some pain. I figured it might take a couple of days for it to completely go away, so I waited.
Now it's been three weeks, and the pain just keeps getting worse. It aches for hours at a time, I have to take painkillers a few times a week to make i bearable, often it comes at bedtime so I will lay awake for a few hours getting to sleep.
So today I had enough, I need to get this fixed. Called up the dentist's office and explained the situation and the receptionist informed me that my regular dentist was on holidays, and won't be back for over two weeks. I should call back then and make an appointment with her then. Uhm...NO!
So I managed to get an 'emergency appointment' in two days, with a different dentist at the same office. Hopefully there is something that can be done that day, so I won't have to have this horrible pain every time I eat or drink something, and have random bouts of aching.
I am not even sure which tooth is hurting me; the first one that I got a temporary filling in, or the one my dentist told me to prioritize. But thinking back, the pain only started after she had worked on the second tooth. There was no pain with the temporary filling before my dentist did work on the tooth next to it.
But should I pay for this appointment? I know it's with a different dentist (at the same office), but she was the only one available.
I honestly feel like this should have been fixed properly the first time, and they should correct the issue on their own dime.
I don't complain about services very often, so not sure how I should go about this.
