I will be accompanying DH on a business trip to Plano, Texas this fall. We will be staying in a hotel in Plano. I will be on my own, with a rental car, for two days. What should I see? Where should I shop? What should I know? DH and I can also spend another two or three days in the area sightseeing together. I'd also love recommendations for that Thanks in advance! My very best travel recommendations always come from the Peas UPDATE below!

It is just a hop, skip, and a jump to Dallas, so you have lots of options there. The JFK memorial (Sixth Floor Museum) is really neat. I hate to say I ENJOYED something like that, but it is worth the visit. I learned a lot, and the whole family, ages 10-60, liked it.

Whiskey Cake is a great option. We live about 45 mins from that area but will sometimes go to dinner there. Legacy West is a nice area to browse, walk around and have a meal. Legacy Food Hall is there too. The Biscuit Bar is yummy too! There is another area called, The Shops at Legacy and there are some good places to eat there and one of my favorite places to see a movie. We like to go to Kennys Smoke House and the movie theatre is called, Angelika Film Center and they have more independent films and not typically mainstream ones. I haven't been in years to the old Downtown Plano area but use to really enjoy it. Mckinney is about 15 miles from the Plano area and we love to go to their Historic Downtown area. A lot of shops and places to enjoy. Have pie at Emporium Pies (the apple pie is incredible but the chocolate one with a pretzel crust is amazing too!), Butcher Board, Patina Green or Harvest are our favorite places to eat.

It’s a huge Metro with lots to see and do. Definitely get a visitors guide and see what’s happening while you are there. I enjoyed seeing the Longhorn drive down the street in Ft Worth. That’s gonna be quintessential Texas. Of course the 6th floor museum, arboretum in Dallas. I love the Texas State Fair (yes, even over Iowa) at the end of September. also, if you like shopping, nothing is better than Dallas (except maybe Houston) for some conspicuous consumption. My favorite high end mall is North Park Center. You can see the massive Nebraska Furniture Mart (since we left Dallas for Omaha it’s on my list if we ever get back to Texas) which is just down the hwy from IKEA. There’s a nice aircraft museum in Addison and a Six Flags in Arlington.
ETA: How could I forget McKinney?! Great boutique shops in their downtown.

Definitely hit downtown McKinney (north of Plano) for interesting shopping and dining (and snacks - I love Mom and Popcorn because they have tons of popcorn flavors and old fashioned candy). There are also quite a few museums in the area (some have already been mentioned). Just depends on what you're interested in.

If you are here in Oct., then the State Fair is a must see....not like the fairs you see in smaller states. bigtex.com/If you are a museum person--Holocaust Museum is here. World Aquarium (more like an inside zoo) All the other suggestions are good. Plano is just an extension of Dallas, so check out tourism in Dallas and you will be set. The pumpkins at the Arboretum are fantastic in the fall--most remarkable.

You must eat at Whiskey Cake in Plano. I adore the Dallas Arboretum in the fall. Downtown McKinney is a fun place to dawdle and do a little shopping. The Dallas Holocaust Museum is haunting and memorable.
If you want to catch a Friday night football game, let me know. I have season tickets to a great stadium with a winning football team and the largest band in the land. Great atmosphere for someone who loves sports and wants to experience high school football in Texas.

It’s not exactly close, but Magnolia Market in Waco is a fun destination if you’re a Fixer Upper fan. I was in Dallas earlier in the year, and took a day trip down there. Their new restaurant is now open, and I hear good things about it. All of the antique stores from the show are nearby, on the same road.

Just thought I'd pop back in to update on our Texas trip. We loved McKinney! Great shopping and atmosphere. If you plan to visit be aware that the stores all close at 5:00 or 6:00. Had an outstanding dinner there at Harvest Restaurant. Also loved Whiskey Cake! Shopped at scrapbook stores in Allen and at Legacy West and the Shops at Legacy. Had a delightful morning at the Arboretum (took lots of photos!) and a quiet afternoon at the SixthFloor Museum. I have a new understanding of the event now having seen the exhibit and location myself. The only thing we were unprepared for was the cashless toll roads. We will be getting a steep bill from our rental car agency, I'm sure. Thank you for the great recommendations! I can always count on the Peas

Sounds like a good trip--hopefully, you were here on a couple of nice days and missed the incessant rain we've been experiencing.
We just had my twins' senior photo shoot at the Arboretum. I love that place, and it's a great time of year to visit.

I love that place, and it's a great time of year to visit. It poured on Wednesday. Poured. But hey, I now have a nice new umbrella Friday and Saturday were beautiful. We saw several girls being photographed at the Arboretum on Friday - I thought perhaps for their Quinceanera. Such a lovely setting! I'll bet your twins' photos will be beautiful.

Personal Scrapbook and My Scrapbook Haven. I reviewed both stores in the pinned LSS Master List - Southwest US Region thread on the General Scrapbooking Board. The stores are only about five minutes apart and very different from one another.

Regarding the toll bill, be prepared. We visited Fort Worth in September, only used the toll roads to go back to airport. The toll itself was only 9ish, but we were billed almost 30 by car rental place.
