What a sweatheart of a guy. I believe he just threw is wife under the bus to try and save his own ass...
From Newsweek..
“Representative Duncan Hunter of California pleaded not guilty to charges of illegally using campaign funds for personal expenses on Thursday and blamed his wife, Margaret Hunter, saying she handled his finances.
Both Hunter and his wife entered not guilty pleas after they were indicted on 60 counts by a federal grand jury earlier this week for allegedly using $250,000 in campaign funds from 2009 to 2016 for a variety of personal expenses, including family vacations, dentist bills, video games and tequila.”
Another sleezy trump supporter.

Did you see this guy just gave a Fox interview and totally threw his wife under the bus stating this was all her fault since she had power of attorney over his finances when he served over seas and was also his campaign manager? What the ever loving hell? He's a total asshole! Class act!! NOT!! As in, you sign the tax return, IRS says you are also at fault!

Poor, poor underpaid Duncan Hunter..... So by his logic, we can ALL steal money that isn't ours because we don't have enough? He CAN fuck right off What a guy..... He’s blaming his wife!! “Indicted Rep. Duncan Hunter: My wife handled my finances Indicted lawmaker blames wife for finances (CNN) — Rep. Duncan D. Hunter seemed to shift any blame onto his wife, Margaret, on Thursday for alleged campaign fund abuses, saying she was the one handling his finances. "She was also the campaign manager, so whatever she did that'll be looked at too, I'm sure," the California Republican said on Fox News. "But I didn't do it," Hunter said. "I didn't spend any money illegally." Duncan Hunter steps down from committee assignments amid corruption charges Duncan and Margaret Hunter pleaded not guilty Thursday morning to federal charges that they had stolen a quarter of a million dollars in campaign funds to furnish their lavish lifestyle. The Hunters had been indicted earlier this week, accused of spending the campaign money on expenses including a $14,000 Italian vacation, groceries and other household items. "My campaign did make mistakes," Hunter said in the Fox interview. "There was money spent on things not by me but by the campaign, and I paid that back before my last election." Duncan Hunter maintains innocence, likens himself to Trump after indictment Hunter, a former Marine, said that when he went to Iraq in 2003 he gave his wife power of attorney and she has handled his finances throughout his military career and time in Congress. The Hunters are accused of conspiracy to commit offenses against the United States, wire fraud, falsification of records and prohibited use of campaign contributions, among other charges.”

I have to say this...
Last night on Twitter I watched 2 Fox segments.
The woman who interviewed Duncan Hunter did a great job, in my opinion. Those were not softball questions and she wasn't all that patient with his BS answers.
And then I watched Neil Cavuto do a pretty blistering rundown of trump lying and therefore being responsible for national confusion and shit shows he himself creates.
It was refreshing.

So, how does it work in the US if a sitting senator dies (or quits mid-term)? Does the party get to replace them, or does the seat go to a special election?

That's very sad. My dad is a brain cancer survivor so I feel a special interest in Senator McCain. I hope he is at peace and as free of pain as possible.

I am not sure every state does it the same way. I think the governor or maybe the party picks someone to sit. If it is the governor in some states that could be an issue IF the governor is of a different party... Then yes, there would end up being a special election in his state

The news about John McCain feels expected but still so very sad. He's been a hero on several fronts and a champion for democracy in the public service arena for so long. I wish he and his family comfort and peace.

The Moscow Times...
“White House Uses Russian Technology to Communicate With Kremlin, Rostec Says”
Russian-made communication technology is being used by the White House as a direct line between Washington and Moscow, Russia’s state-owned defense conglomerate Rostec has said.
A direct link between the Kremlin and the White House became operational on Aug. 30, 1963, a year after the Cuban missile crisis that had almost led to nuclear war. The teletype was replaced by fax machines and, in the past decade, computer communications.
A Rostec unit that specializes in encryption and secure communications, Avtomatika, reportedly supplies the White House with products that allow Trump to communicate directly with President Vladimir Putin.
“U.S. experts tested and recommended to equip the Moscow-Washington direct line with the system,” an unnamed Rostec representative told the state-run RIA Novosti news agency on Wednesday.
“In all its years of existence, the direct line uses only Russian-made equipment,” the representative said without elaborating.”
And what possibly go wrong....

This is one of the best descriptions of what I’ve read about trump and it comes from a Fox News Host. Kudos to him.
From Newsweek...
”Fox News host Neil Cavuto condemned President Donald Trump during a searing four-minute monologue Thursday, which culminated in him asking: "What good is it to fatten your wallet if you’ve lost your soul.”
Cavuto directed the barbs at Trump following an interview with the president aired on Fox News’ morning show Fox & Friends Thursday. During a wide-ranging sit-down, the president claimed that if those calling for his impeachment got their wish, the booming economy would collapse and “everybody would be very poor.”

More trump rhetoric supporting racism...(white supremacy/nationalists). Glad to see he was hit back hard. He’s such a fucking idiot. (Cue his trumpateers here in pea land) “"It is extremely disturbing that the President of the United States echoed a longstanding and false white supremacist claim that South Africa's white farmers are targets of large-scale, racially motivated killings by South Africa's black majority," the anti-hate advocacy organization said, noting that prominent white supremacists such as Richard Spencer have espoused the claim. "We would hope that the President would try to understand the facts and realities of the situation in South Africa, rather than repeat disturbing, racially divisive talking points used most frequently by white supremacists." www.npr.org/2018/08/23/641181345/heres-the-story-behind-that-trump-tweet-on-south-africa-and-why-it-sparked-outra
