challenged myself to take ONLY horizontal photos so I could easily do a Project Life style Disney album when I return?
I think horizontal photos are THE KEY to making PL quick and easy. I'm just so, so, so conditioned to taking vertical pics. Every pic seems to look better vertically.
But it might be a fun challenge to try and make all my photos horizontal. I can even see how it would be to my benefit to make character shots horizontal and if I could print it 4x6 and cut it down to a 3x4 because it was further back, that would still be easier than having to resize and print all those 3x4's!
By the way, before anyone reminds me there are PL pockets for vertical photos - I hate them! The pics slide out!
I need a plan! Has anyone ever tried going to horizontal pics for the sole purpose of Project Life or do I just overthink everything. LOL!

I'd be so worried about remebering to capture the shot that way I would probably hold up everyone! But my girls and grandson already acuse me of that anyway! LOL You don't want to miss anything! My sister recently went and paid for a package that included their pics with characters and princesses. Whatever or however you decide have fun at Disney!

I totally understand. I prefer vertical for most pictures and it drives my husband crazy. I hope you have a fantastic vacation. Good luck with the photos.

I think that taking all horizontal photos at Disney isn't the way I would go. I understand that it would be so much easier to scrap, because the photos would be uniform. But some photos just look better vertical. Especially if you are going to take character shots.
I know that isn't what you want to hear, so feel free to ignore me. This is totally my opinion and I don't have to make your album.

Maybe you could try and take MOSTLY horizontal photos, but if you really need to take a vertical shot of something, you could either print it as a 3x4, or you could print a vertical photo in two 4x6's to fill 2 horizontal pockets, making it really a 6x8 (that would be great for a photo of Cinderella's castle, for example). If you're using Design A protectors, you could cut the bottom 4x6 photo in half vertically to achieve that same 6x8 effect.

After working on my PL style Disney album, I don't think you are crazy at all. You have been to Disney enough times and been scrapping long enough to know the logistics of what you are trying to accomplish. I might not recommend it to an unseasoned visitor though.
You will have to force yourself to keep that camera from automatically going on end at first but if you get those horizontal shots in first at each photo op, then you can sneak a vertical in here and there. It might take a day to adjust but certainly not impossible. Maybe take a walk at the park and practice before you go. It is hard to break a habit like that because taking pictures is second nature to us. Just don't forget to enjoy yourself. Have a great trip!

I think it's a good idea and will make for much less trouble getting your pictures ready for PL. The good thing about Disney is that the surroundings look good no matter where you are! So if you have to step back to get everything in the frame you want horizontally, the photo will still look good. You can always zoom in on faces and keep the shot horizontal. I naturally take most of my pictures horizontally, except when I use the iphone, and even then I usually end up cropping square and backing with patterned paper for PL or even just cropping my vertical photo into a horizontal 4x6.

Do both. Then, you can decide which ones you like. If you take vertical photos, maybe you can create S/B layouts with the photos or use the vertical photo sleeve protectors. For simplicity purposes, I would just take horizontal photos. It's much easier with PL. Also, buy postcards! You may be able to get the horizontal photos you want on a postcard.

I think that would be hard for me to do personally. In my London/Dublin album, I printed all the horizontal photos at 3x4 and used a lot of the design A. To be honest, I really don't care for the design A. Too many of those 3x4 cards all together. I think a photo in one or two in those slots is nice to break it up.
I'm working on 2 trips that I took back to back this summer: Northern California and Las Vegas. I am using some Design G with 2 vertical 4x6, 2 horizontal 4x6,and 3x4 slots. I am mostly using the Simple Stories pocket pages as I like how they stagger the 4x6's and put the 3x4's at the top and the bottom.

You could try taking a vertical and a horizontal of your more key shots and see how that works. But I don't think it's crazy. On our last trip, I took pictures at every ride. So there was a vertical picture of DH & I because it's easier for me to take selfies that way (plus DH is a lot taller than me and it just works better that way). Then took a horizontal picture of the ride. It's been such a pain for me to scrapbook since most of the pages have an L shape design. We're going on this week and I am going to pay attention to picture orientation.

Most of mine are unintentionally horizontally done. Just because that's natural for me. The exception is the casle, cos it's kinda hard to get all of you and all of it in a photograph horizontally, but just plan for a few, all together in a back-to-front kind of way, portraits as well.

Thanks all!!!! I agree with all of you! LOL I think I my plan is to try and shoot 90% horizontal and when something just won't work that way, I'm going to blow it up to a 5x7 or 8x10 and do an insert. In this album I'm also going to do some regular layouts so I can use those for that too. I just want to use Design A and make a quick PL album when I get back, plus I need to adjust to horizontal photos if I'm going to be successful at PL. It's just a mindset and habit change.
Hey....it will at least be fun to see if I can! I will probably keep the character shots vertical to fill the frame. Then I could do a layout with those and stick it in there. I uploaded 490 pics to Snapfish last night from our last Disney trip and the ones that are horizontal and not completely zoomed in, I actually do enjoy seeing some of the things in the background!!
Thanks again for the advice! You've helped me!

Well, for my last trip I made sure we wore clothes that color coordinated with the Say Cheese line of paper. I had a ton of it and was having trouble using it. So, I don't think orienting your pictures for your layouts is all that strange. I do take mostly horizontal pictures and have to remind myself to take some verticals because I like the look of them on my layouts (although I don't do PL.)

Don't beat yourself up if you take some vertical photos. These days, I print them at 3" x 4" unless that would be too small to be worthwhile. If you want them full size, remember you should be able to find mini-album refill pages for 5" x 7" and 6" x6" inserts. (Personally, I love to mix page sizes in my albums. ) Have a great trip!

I print any of my vertical photos as 3x4 or trim them down to that size so I can use them in 4x6 pockets - preferably design A.

I buy postcards all the time! Sometimes people are in the way or you're not allowed to use a flash.....here's another trick that you probably use. I take pictures of the names of things and use it as my title!

I am a mostly vertical person too. It is really easy to do with the iPhone. PL ends up taking me longer than I want it to because I'm constantly trying to get my pics to fit the designated slots. I think going in with the mindset to take your pics a certain way is a great idea. We are going to Disney in Nov and I might do the same thing.

Having just finished my Disney album for our trip last year, I know a lot of my favorite photos were vertical orientation. I think there is a lot about Disney that just better lends itself to that orientation (castle, characters and their detailed costumes etc). I can appreciate the ease of all horizontal and maybe if you have a larger group and will have a lot of group shots it will be easier. When most of my photos were just me & my husband or us with a character, vertical was just more common.
If you plan on handing your camera off to the Photo Pass photographers it'll be tougher to keep the shots consistent as well unless you want to tell all those photographers to keep the camera one way. Personally I wouldn't want to be preoccupied with which way I'm holding my camera; I'd rather concentrate on getting the shot I want and worry about scrapping it later...but that's just my opinion.

Project Life has trained me to take pictures horizontally, I have been a Project Lifer since 2010 and have gone on MANY Disney trip between then and now, and this has been such a great help. I have had such an easy time documenting my trip, but I don't take 100% of my photos horizontal, some photos (like character photos) just look better vertically and there are those 3x2 slots. In addition, taking my photos in this way has NEVER effected any of the traditional scrapbook layouts.
Have fun! and I would love a special ScrapGals podcast that is just a trip report (but I'm a Disney nerd and scrapbooking Disneyland is my favorite thing to do.)

I would have a hard time doing that just because the scenery at Disney lends itself to vertical. I try to alternate the page designs, but it is frustating.

I couldn't do it. We're going to DisneyWorld in a few months too and I already know I'm going to buy the Photo Pass CD. When we went on our Disney Cruise we bought the CD (which came with ALL the photos they printed for us to look at too) and many of the character photos were vertical. It will be interesting to see how the pics from this trip compare.

Y'all are cracking me up. Yes it is crazytown to be analyzing it so much but I am on my third Disney album and thinking I want it QUICK AND EASY!!!! I agree, I've decided the character shots will have to be vertical but I think I will blow a bunch of them up and stick them in the midst of the pages. I do like a mix of size but overall I like the Design A horizontal pockets. I do print 3x4 sometimes but it is such a pain to worry about it! It would be so wonderful to just edit each one for lighting/color and then hit upload overnight, press order all and be halfway done!

Why not just print the verticals as 2 3x4s on a 4x6, cut it in half and put them in the A pockets? I'm pretty sure my photo printer even has that as a standard choice on the menu with the collage options. Or just mix in some different sized page protectors so you could use a few random verticals? Of course, I don't mind that look--different page sizes in the same album.

I think it's a fun idea, but I'd probably take both a horizontal and vertical of each picture. It really wouldn't take much longer per shot.
I've been lucky enough to go to Disney properties enough that I have all the "standard" shots, so now I think of different themes to do. Two of my favorites were characters and the alphabet. It was really fun to look for things that fit each letter and made a fun scrapbook to look at.
I hope you have a great trip!

Because I'm sick of taking the time to make my vertical pics in to 3x4's. Have you used Picasa before? to make 3x4 images it is so easy. Select 2, create a 4x6 collage and print, done.
