Some of you might know that we are experiencing an out of control arson fire in Northern California, called the "King" fire. It's burned 82,000 acres and is 10% contained. The arsonist has been captured is being held on 10 Million dollars bail. I came across these remarkable photos of a view of the fire from Lake Tahoe and thought I would share. The discomfort and sports cancellations due to smoke that we're experiencing are nothing compared to all of the displaced residents. My heart goes out to them.

Wow that is quite dramatic. When I heard a few days ago that the King fire was arson, I wondered why someone would do that. So many people whose lives will never be the same. So sad.

WOW, that is an amazing picture.
It seems insensitive of me to say that but I don't mean it that way it all. The picture itself is incredible but the reason behind the picture is horrible. My heart goes out to all of those affected by the fires.
I am glad they have the person responsible behind bars.

I would love to remove that smirk from Huntsman's face.

I would love to remove that smirk from Huntsman's face. I was surprised at the bail amount. It's one of the highest, although the devastation he's allegedly caused is enormous. Apparently, as more inhabited structures burn, more charges can be filed.

We live about 25 miles from the fire on the west side. The smoke is mostly drifting east but at different times will shift to the west. Last Monday the smoke was so bad that it was like we were fogged in. My clothes and our house have that "campfire" smell.
We opened our windows on Friday night when the air smelled fairly clear but woke up to ash inside our house under the open windows. My DH's car is parked out front and has had an ash cover for the past several days as well.
A gal I work with lives about 15 miles up the hill from me and every day this week at work she has smelled like smoke.
I feel so bad for how hard the fire fighters have to work. Because the smoke plume is so large and heavy, they haven't been able to fight it from the air for several days so it is all ground crews right now. My thoughts are with them that they stay safe and no lives are lost.

That's just awful. Prayers said for all that have been displaced. I hope that the arson pay a BIG price!

I have no words for your photos...just so unreal to see it from that angle. It is very different from that angle. I hope they are able to get it out soon.

The sun cast an orange glow at dusk last night in Sacramento. It looked like the end of the world. Add on top of that the lightning and thunder with no (well, I guess there was some but I never saw it) rain...it was surreal.

If it weren't for the devastation and heartbreak that is being experienced I'd say these photos are beautiful. I just don't understand the mind of an arsonist. Stay safe!

Wow. I have seen smoke from a lot of fires living in southern California but thank God I have never seen anything like that. That really is amazing. Unfortunately most of our fires are also arson. I agree there needs to be a special place in hell for them. I hope that those in harms way stay safe and that there is minimal structure damage. So many lives uprooted because of one persons evil senseless act.

It is sad... But those pictures are beautiful. I don't think that this guy will ever see freedom again..
We had a couple people here in the valley start fires I think the one set 15 buildings on fire and a palm tree in a city park. That was the fire that got her caught. yep it was an woman in her 50's.
The other one was a younger guy. The news said he was a copy cat. He had started burning buildings when they caught the woman. I am really glad they finally got them both.
I don't know what makes people set fires but they are sick in the head. He yeah go another reason the mental health resources need to get better and easier for people to get help..
These people will go to prison but not get help for their mental illness unless they are found mentally incompetent in court and that might make it where they not be able to have a hearing at all. sad this is...

Those pictures are amazing. It's hard to believe how huge the fire has become. I hope justice is served and that the arsonist spends the rest of his life in jail.

The photos are stunning in such a sad way. They definitely show why it is so hard to fight the fire from the air and without airdrops, it is almost impossible to get it under control.
It is aweful how many fires are started deliberately. A 13 yr old girl has been charged with arson for the Cocos fire in San Diego County last May.

Oh my goodness, those photos are both breathtaking and horrifying! I agree bc2ca, it's insane the number of fires started by arsonists. Every fire season when they announce a total fire ban day, it's like a green light to arsonists.

its so hard to be in California right now. we are supposed to get smoke in the Bay Area today, but I don't smell it yet. I hope the weather (cooler, maybe some rain Wednesday night) will help the firefighters.
it breaks my heart to see beautiful tall trees burning

Having had to evacuate from more than one wildfire in the past, I know the horror of a large wildfire raging nearby. Devastating and extremely frightening - and so often caused by a crazy arsonist who gets his/her thrills this way. I pray for no loss of life.

Holy hell, that looks nightmarish! So sorry for those of you near its path. its so hard to be in California right now. we are supposed to get smoke in the Bay Area today, but I don't smell it yet. I hope the weather (cooler, maybe some rain Wednesday night) will help the firefighters. it breaks my heart to see beautiful tall trees burning I'm half an hour closer to the fire than Lindy is (and an hour farther away than Sacramento) and haven't seen or smelled anything yet.

the rain won't be enough to do much to this fire...I would say we are looking at another month for control....very rugged, very remote...very large...

I just received a voice mail from the school district that school is canceled the rest of the week due to extremely poor air quality. The smoke is inescapable. I can't keep it out of the house anymore. It looks like a thick fog outside.

The skies looked blue today They aren't saying the smoke is drifting here anymore. Maybe the winds have shifted?
