S/O Things you can't get rid of?

Everything. We have so much stuff that needs to go and I know it, but hate to throw things out. DH wants to rent a giant dumpster container and chunk all of it! Probably my worst stash is old clothes and décor. Oh - and I have an entire closet of the boys old Halloween costumes. They come in handy every once in a while and at this point, I could just keep them for grandchildren!

lainey - love the teddy! Never get rid of him. Says the 61 year old woman who still collects stuffed animals (albeit pricey ones).

I've gotten so much better at getting rid of things, but there is so much room for improvement. The 4 bentwood Windsor chairs in the rafters of the garage that match my drop leaf table, still so much fabric to get rid of, old clothes from the 70's and 80's (though I did finally donate all my high school prom gowns last year), old costume jewelry I'll never wear again. The list could go on and on. This is why I am a frequent poster on the annual decluttering thread. Decluttering & Purging...the new hobby of Baby Boomers everywhere!

I once made a big batch of meatballs for my dad to take to a work potluck. He left me a note on a piece of scratch paper that said they were a huge hit and gone before noon. I can’t bring myself to throw it away, I keep it taped inside my pantry.

an old sweatshirt from Mizzou (college in Missouri) that my sister went to in the late 80s.. She bought me the sweatshirt and I then proceeded to wear it for the next 30 years. I literally wore it up to about 2 years ago. The sleeves and neck are almost threads... but it fit soooooo good.. it was oversized and looked cute with stirrup pants.. HAHAHAHA, then with jeans, then with yoga pants.. HA... It just now looks more than worn out, it's crossed the line to a homeless look.

I am going through my parent's house and trying to find homes for so much of this stuff. My dad just wants it gone. He said to give, sell, or trash he doesn't care, just wants it gone.

I am posting some things on the family Facebook group page so my neices and nephews can claim things they want or need. Giving some things to people I know can use it and have taken bags and boxes to the women's shelter thrift store.

Some things are hard to find homes for. I have a large rubbermaid box of cross stitch fabric and kits. Hard to sell, nobody seems to do that craft much any more and no way for me to use it all in three lifetimes. I RAKed a gift bag full to a lady that works at the car repair place because I saw some of her work hanging in the waiting room.

As for me, personally I hang on to too much fabric. I added my mom's stash to my own. I will never use it all, but I always want more, LOL.

Some of the kits sell well, depending on who they are by. There are still enough people who cross stitch (my sister is one) that it sells well at my thrift store as well. I would donate it to a local thrift store that you like to support.




Now I don't feel so silly for keeping the little note page dad gave me (dad always carried one of those really small ones in his front pocket) with all the specs on his old hunting rifle. He wanted me to sell it and knew I'd never remember what the heck it was. Even though the rifle has been sold, I'm still hanging on to that paper 10 years later.

I'm getting better at releasing the "things" and keeping the memories instead.

I had my mom's last voice mail until somehow it "disappeared" when my phone crashed and did not come back with the others. That I kinda miss. Nothing special, just a general sorry-I-missed-you-talk-to-you-later message but still wish I still had it.

My daughters rainbow loom supplies. I have no idea why, they are boxed up under the spare bed.
She made so many amazing things with those.

When my granddaughter was 4, she colored some pictures for me for Christmas. All on her own, she grabbed some pink Christmas paper and wrapped the pictures, using duct tape. She's 14 now and I can't part with that sweet duct taped package.
