Here is our first challenge for a whole month of daily challenges. Each day of the month, a host will present you with a sketch, a twist, and a sample. I found this sketch on Grand Diva's Creative Corner. I loved the bold triangles and the circle, as well as that it allowed for more than one photo. Sketchtember SKETCH #1 by Gramma Dee, on Flickr And here is my take on it. This will be the last page in my Disney album. May add some journaling before it goes into the book, but for now I am happy with it. Slumberland by Gramma Dee, on Flickr Oh yeah, and a TWIST: For day one, your twist will be to use some kind of DOTS.
Please link your take on this sketch with or without the twist in this thread. Can't wait to see what you come up with!
If you are a September Team player, check out how you can earn points for this in September Team Challenge #1. If you are not a team member, that's fine, too. Just join in for the fun of it!

Here's my take on the sketch. I couldn't make the triangles work with these tiny older photos so I went with a background that is two large triangles, a triangle of green embellishments around the layout, and those smaller green puffy arrow shapes. And for the twist to use dots I used enamel dots (along with polka dots on the background paper).

A purely graphic page from me, supposedly so I could do it quickly and it still took me ages. Not one of my favourite pages but each time I look at it I like it a bit more. I made my circles the dots for the twist.
Great sketch grammadee and I like how each version so far is a bit different.

I struggled with this one - couldn't figure out the circles and triangles at all -sorry. I didn't have any dots that worked colourwise - hopefully my gold brads will count. grammadee Chinagirl828 - love it - your work always looks like a piece of art crystalb - so cute - love your triangles and the photos! grammadee - awesome sketch (if a bit challenging) - love your interpretation!

Do you have this on Pinterest? I’d love to save this! I don't and I can't see an easy way to pin it from the gallery either. However, when I hover over the image in this thread I get the little "Pin it" button pop up in the top left corner of the layout. Can you see that or is it just because I have the widget installed on my browser? crystalb I love how you pulled the photos down to the bottom of the design and split the background into two patterns. The striped journaling paper is gorgeous with this mix. JaneB love, love your graphic take on this. I struggled with the triangles because of all the business and thanks to your page I can see that solid colours and clean design would totally have been the way to make it work. Linda I love how you've simplified the design to work for your style. The colours are perfect (as is that title box) and I love the rows of brads and arrows.

grammadee - yes or no on whether the brads count for dots? I'm fine either way - just want to make sure I claim correctly - thanks

Linda We almost had the same colours too! I understand the difficulty but you made it work; in Photoshop I can manipulate anything and in the end I didn't change much and still took a while. And after seeing LisaDV with her stitched triangle, that is fabulous, I thought Ooh you could make three holes and do thread/twine/ribbon triangles!! Love your page Lisa, it's so pretty

woodysbetty I love the background paper, that's ingenious! Your LO looks fab! Here's mine. I gotta confess, the triangles weren't for me so I just ignored them and took inspiration from the rest. I also wanted to do my own challenge #45 white space, so I kept it small. The dots are..... and I really wanted to surprise you and do something random but I had to use Nuvos hahahaha! So I'm taking 18 points. 5 for sketch + twist, 1 for a LO, 1 for sharing, #3 Numbers (I wrote the date on), #4 Enamel Shapes, #7 Tiny, #12 Nuvos, #15 Wood + Metal ( myboysnme I used one of the photo turns you sent me at last! I couldn't make them work on other LOs till today, thank you again, you're a superstar!), #17 Where I Live, #22 Puffy, #31 Playtime, #38 6x6 Paper Pads, #45 White Space and Sept stash Challenge - my handwriting.

I'm trying to comment on these while I have a few days off work. Love all the layouts on this thread. Hope to get a chance to do mine tomorrow. grammadee - Love this sketch! The title is perfect for those photos! So cool that you used Nuvo's for the triangles! You did that after you put the pictures on but before you added the PL card? Chinagirl828 - Your layouts always look so well balanced and the colors compliment each other so well. I love that you have their names on there. Most of us can't remember who people are in old photos and it's nice to put a name to the face for future generations. crystalb - Your triangles give such an abstract look to the layout! I love that you added smaller triangles too! The two different colored Nuvo's really stand out. JaneB - Clean and simple - I love it! Less is more. I rarely scrap on white cardstock, I should take your example and try it! Linda - The color cardstock you chose really compliments the photos! Even the PL card matches perfectly. LisaDV - Love all the stitching! Especially the circle around the photo! Was that hard to stitch through all those layers? woodysbetty - Clever use of the paper! I love how the arrow draws your eye to the photo. How did you do that tag? Did you computer print and then cut out? kiwigirl - Love your take on the sketch, the white space really sparks! How in the world did you make sure a perfect circle of Nuvo drops?? Okay, time to get off the computer and get some shut eye! Back tomorrow!

Thank you grammadee, woodysbetty and MDscrapaholic! I just eyeballed that and freehanded it. It worked quite well I though. Total poppycock! I have a mask with circles of dots, so I put a pencil mark where my dots needed to go lol! So glad I bought that mask, I think it was quite expensive back in the day but it's priceless!
