I have read almost half this book, and not sure I can read anymore! It just seems to go on and on. I hate to give up on it, but I love most of his books. Is it worth it to finish?

I didn't love it. I was excited about the premise of the book, but really didn't care for how the story line developed.

It gets very supernatural-ish at the end. I finished it, but it won't ever be on my re-read list.

I love most of his books as well, but I did not love this one. However, I’m like you in that once I start to a book, I fell like I have to finish it, so I plodded through it.

I just hate to give up on a Stephen King book. The Stand is my most favorite book ever.

I'm just past the 1/2 mark and I'm not loving it either. I LOVE Stephen's work but this story seems to be a repeat of a story that was a movie I saw in the late 90s (Fallen with Denzel Washington) and I'm disappointed as this seems like a rip off. But I will finish it, especially to see if I'm wrong about it being a rip off theme.

My 2 cents, it is not one of King's better books. He could have really went somewhere with this one, as the premise is good. It falls flat at the end. It felt as if he was bored of writing it and just wanted it over with. I will be forever thankful I read The Outsider because it introduced me to Holly & sent me in search of the Bill Hodges books. The Mr Mercedes trilogy was awesome!

I had the same reaction. I finished it, but thought it was only okay. This is what I wrote on Goodreads:
Stephen King is a master storyteller and excels at plot and suspense, yet I didn't feel his talents were on full display in The Outsider. I found his most recent novel missing the urgency and punch his previous books had. The book was serviceable and a highlight for me was the appearance of a character from another book. 3.5 stars.

I haven't read that one but I'm also in the boat of halfway through a novel. I was reading Stephen King's Dr. Sleep. I'm finding it difficult to get past the torture of the children. Did anyone else read it? Oh and I think The Stand is his best novel too

I had no problem finishing with the short chapters and such. The book felt very rushed to me. I didn't mind the premise. (Talk to me about "The Cell", "Needful Things" and "Under the Dome")! King is my favorite author, but he has some bad, bad books. Some of his books start great and he doesn't know how to end them. My favorite is 11/22/63. Just an all around brilliant book. I love "It". I love the Dark Tower series.
Finish it. If I can finish "Tommyknockers", you can finish The Outsider.

I love the Dark Tower series. . Man did I love The Dark Tower series. I read so many books of his during the 80's and 90's. Pretty much as soon as they came out. Then there were a few that didn't work for me at all. The last book I read of his was Revival. I was so underwhelmed. Personally OP I wouldn't finish. If the Stand is your Stephen King high mark finishing is going to be a lesson in reading futility.

I returned it. Hanging my head in shame, Mr. King! Or maybe he should!
