welcome to october and a challenge i think will be fun and a great way to bust some stash! HOW TO PLAY THE KIT GAME Set-up:
1. Make yourself a kit of supplies (see this thread for more info) 2. Divide your papers into at least 3 piles; the first pile should have more than the last (for instance, my kit has 15 papers so my piles will be 7, 5, and 3. You can split yours however you like). If using a large amount of papers, consider more piles so you don’t get overwhelmed. 3. Repeat with your embellishments, choosing some for each pile of papers. You may omit any alphas in your kit and just keep them to the side. Now you’re ready to play! 1. Begin creating with your largest pile of papers + embellishments. You are limited to these supplies only!* Scrap with these supplies until you have at least cut into each paper in your pile. 2. Now you can start using your second pile, but you can add in all the leftovers from your first pile, so now you have lots of new color/pattern combinations, new embellies, etc. Same rules apply; scrap until you’ve cut into each of the papers from your pile (scraps from the previous pile don’t count). 3. When you reach that point, move on to the third pile (or if you have more than 3, continue the process until you reach your last pile) and scrap until you kill the kit! (killing the kit means you’ve cut into each full sheet of paper you started with in the beginning) *items like inks, sequins, nuvos, cardstock, mixed media supplies, etc. can be kept aside to use on all of your projects, unless you’d prefer to challenge yourself and add them to your piles. If you are a part of the team challenge, the points system for this game will be noted in the challenges thread. We hope that even if you’re not on a team, you’ll play along with us!

here are some photos i took of my kit process. i apologize in advance that they're not great photos and it's a bad photo-heavy post! here are my 15 papers: october kit game challenge by sadkid, on Flickr i split them into 3 piles; one with 7 papers: october kit game challenge by sadkid, on Flickr one with 5 papers: october kit game challenge by sadkid, on Flickr and the final pile has 3 papers: october kit game challenge by sadkid, on Flickr as you can see, i decided to make things easier for myself and grouped the papers by colors. obviously you don't have to do this. i'm also using papers from one manufacturer (felicity jane) but you can use whatever you want, be it a collection kit, a purchased kit, a selection of 6x6 pads, a big stack of PL cards, whatever works for you. here are the embellishments i added to my kit. i added a lot because i like a lot of variety, so i had to include 2 photos: october kit game challenge by sadkid, on Flickr october kit game challenge by sadkid, on Flickr and here are my 3 piles of papers plus the embellishments i added to each pile. note that the last pile has both the fewest papers and fewest embellishments. this is because you bring forward all your paper and embellie leftovers each time you move to a new pile. by the time i get to that last pile, it won't be so small also note that i really put a ton of stuff in my first and largest paper pile. this is because, again, anything i don't use will move forward to the next pile. i added 2 ephemera packs because splitting them into the piles made no sense. i did split up some embellishments and also added some 6x6 papers and PL cards to each pile. you do whatever works for you!! october kit game challenge by sadkid, on Flickr october kit game challenge by sadkid, on Flickr october kit game challenge by sadkid, on Flickr i put my first pile into my crate paper desktop organizer (non-affiliate amazon link) and bagged the other 2 piles individually, so now i'm all set to start creating! if you've made it this far, i hope this little visual representation helps a bit. don't forget to post photos of your kits below! and no, you don't have to post each step like i did, just one photo of your kit will do have fun and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Ok, here goes my kit. I went big bc I kept thinking it needed something else to round it out but then all of a sudden, there were 17 papers there and I couldn't pick which ones to take out. LOL I didn't add plain cardstock, washi tape and inks. Plus I reserve the right to use the B-sides. These pictures are everything together: <iframe width="7.399999999999977" height="7.399999999999977" style="position: absolute; width: 7.399999999999977px; height: 7.399999999999977px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none;left: 5px; top: 100px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_72095291" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="7.399999999999977" height="7.399999999999977" style="position: absolute; width: 7.4px; height: 7.4px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 316px; top: 100px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_22192470" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="7.399999999999977" height="7.399999999999977" style="position: absolute; width: 7.4px; height: 7.4px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 5px; top: 412px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_29952142" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="7.399999999999977" height="7.399999999999977" style="position: absolute; width: 7.4px; height: 7.4px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 316px; top: 412px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_98228062" scrolling="no"></iframe> October Kit Challenge by Christine C68, on Flickr October Kit Challenge by Christine C68, on Flickr October Kit Challenge by Christine C68, on Flickr October Kit Challenge by Christine C68, on Flickr The b-sides October Kit Challenge by Christine C68, on Flickr Here it is split into piles: (I didn't split the lettering and little bits like veneer pieces and enamel dots.) stinkerbelle and christinec68 , you both have some really pretty papers! Okay, I have my first kit ready to go. I'm planning to work on my 6x8 December books which probably look very different from most of yours. I'm putting together 3 albums spanning 20 Hanukkahs and snowy day photos (1998-2006, 2007-present, and one for future photos.) In the front section of each, I'll be adding pages for the blessings over the candles and the lyrics to a few songs, and that's what I want to concentrate on over this challenge. Most of my papers are from a DCWV winter pad that I want to kill, but since I don't really have a use for the Christmas tree papers, I'll probably end up doing some mixed media on them. When my kit thins out, I'll see what I can make for cards and gift tags. I only have photos of everything all together. I have fifteen 12x12 papers that I'll divide 7/5/3. In the photo, it looks like fewer than that because some of them are duplicates. For my embellishments, I took a photo of a bunch of scraps and some handmade papers from a couple of old ProvoCraft pads. I also have ribbons and snowflakes and assorted other stuff. I also have a couple of stamps and some snowflake washi I forgot to throw in, and some snowflake charms that got buried under the heap when I took the photo. Like Christine, I didn't include cardstock, or inks, paints, embossing powders, and other basics. I've been wanting to find the time to finish these up before December this year, and I'm looking at this challenge as a real opportunity. Happy Scrapping y'all! Thanks stinkerbelle !

I've been thinking I want to start a thread about quick decision making vs indecisiveness in scrapbooking. I think we have our answer about what kind of scrapper you are, stinkerbelle . You accomplished so much so fast! I love your layouts. Thanks for sharing with us.

Elsabelle actually i'm very slow because i do a lot of hemming and hawing about things. those 7 pages took me about 11 hours to do, with a few breaks in between and having said that, here's one that took me forever because i had technical difficulties with nearly every step happy girls by sadkid, on Flickr

Wow stinkerbelle, you're a scrapping machine! Way to go on 8 LOs! I'm glad you're on my team this month! I love them all of course. Photo Fun is great, I love how you backed the acrylic with a circle, it really pops and looks awesome, I also love all the layers behind the photos, I wish I could achieve that look but it never works for me, I love how you've done that! My Tribe is fabulous, love the embossed hearts and the amazing coloured background it is super lush! I love the doily and the brad & flair and I especially love the tiny strip of washi tape poking out and those 3 little hearts at the bottom of the journalling Dodge City is great, love the story, love the photo it's definitely worth a photo of that sign! I love all the embellishments dotted around, it's perfect! Another fabulous background on Summer Vacations, love that! I adore how you've done the banners on the top right too, so cool to have one the other way around, I like that a LOT! I love the embellishments and the journaling and the cool title, looks great! Fierce Determination what a great title and great journalling! Love that doily and the striped border, it's fab! Happy Much is amazing, what a great photo, my cat always looks grumpy as well, great resting grumpy face! Love the camera and the little word stickers, looks awesome. Love the Rebel page, the clip with the arrow and the fabulous title, looks fantastic! Happy Girls is amazing too, love the title it's the best and those dots on the scallop are lush, I also love the glasses and your little cluster with hexagons and stars and the little camera, looks amazing! Keep up the great work!

I've just starting making my own kits. Although I love all the pre-made kits, they tend to be more girl oriented and I have all boys. Plus I have a ton of stash to work through. I made mine with my boys favorite colors and a lot from my older stash so I can work through it and replenish with some newer things! First Set: IMG_9784 by Boy Mom, on Flickr Second Set: IMG_9785 by Boy Mom, on Flickr Third Set: IMG_9786 by Boy Mom, on Flickr Embellishments: IMG_9782 by Boy Mom, on Flickr Alphas: IMG_9783 by Boy Mom, on Flickr I'm hoping to get a lot of projects done with this kit! And of course I just saw now I was supposed to have the embellishments sorted with the papers! I'll do that before I start using the kit, but probably won't be able to redo pictures

I don't have any finished projects to post yet, but I'm happy to say that I'm done with my largest group of papers and I'm into my middle sized group. I'm batch processing 18 6x8 pages, but I'm stuck until I can put in a print order and find some time to do some more work on them. It'll happen though. It's still early in the month. boymom5, you have some really fun embellishments to play with

I've gone really light on the embellishments in my kit mostly because I break everything down to individual pieces once I've got past that first flush of excitement. I'll definitely be adding more as I put the pages together. I've mostly pulled supplies with some specific projects in mind but the colours also work as one larger kit thanks to the floral piece in the third kit which pulls the dominant colours together. This is part one: Part two: and part three:

Great layout to finish on stinkerbelle! I left you some love in the gallery. I'm working through my kit. I've cut into roughly half the papers in my first lot (five of them were scraps to begin with since I'm working on a 6x8 album).

I posted these on the October Challenge thread, but these are the pages that I've made so far from my kit. I loved making the kit, but I haven't dug into it as much as I thought I would. We had family in town taking my time away from scrapping, so I'm hoping to get a few more out of the kit before the end of the month. IMG_0226 by Boy Mom, on Flickr IMG_9839 by Boy Mom, on Flickr
