Just wanting to save money on the photos I am printing at home. The ink carts cost an arm and a leg!! I decided to try and refill the ink cart myself and bought a refill kit for $13.00 on line. I hope for the best since I need to print about 70 just from Disney trip alone. Any feedback welcomed...Linda

I use to when we had a brother printer...it had separate ink cartridges and if one was "empty" it would just stop printing. It was kind of a pita, but we never printed photos. To me some of the colors didn't always print "true to color". Never had a problem with the black ink. After a while the printer stopped working, not sure if it was "cheap" ink or if it's time was up.
I did print some pictures on cardstock for a mini album on a lexmark that I had refilled, which of course was a mistake...the ink faded, but that was from using cardstock!

I tried a couple of times, but it just didn't work out well. I use Walgreen's and their great deals on big batches.

I used to refill ink cartridges for an old HP printer I used to have, but once I switched to Epson printers using DuraBrite ink I stopped. The whole point of using a printer with ink that is supposedly fade/water/smudge resistant is because their inks have been tested for longevity. The knockoff brands haven't so I only buy name brand ink cartridges.
FWIW, I've had quite a few photo quality printers over the years and even within the same brand the ink usage varies. My last Epson (R380) just DRANK the ink and always ran out at the most inopportune times. The multifunction printer I replaced it with has high capacity cartridges that last much longer. They cost a little more but it's worth it just to not have to keep running to the store to buy ink cartridges.
