This time of year I especially struggle, the thought of enduring 6 months of lousy Seattle winter pretty much does me in and ruins autumn for me. However, the last 10 days have been amazing here, and getting out and enjoying the fall colors, relative warmth, and most importantly....NO RAIN helps me quite a bit. Yesterday I took a long walk in our arboretum, both next to the lake and in the wooded areas, and watching it "snow" leaves just made me stop, pause, and be thankful for the day. Why can't it be like this every day?!? What positive things have you experienced recently? Care to share? Oh, and I posted a short vide on my IG (it's the second post back) if you wanna enjoy the leaf snow too www.instagram.com/lmhartman/

I get in a funk about approaching winter as well. I also love leaf rain (what we call it). I have a tree in my back yard with bazillions of little tiny leaves and on windy days in the fall we can just stand under it while it rains around us. I love that.
I have to figure out how to post a photo to go with my positive story. I'll be back.
Well, I can't post my photo. I took it because it was such a simple thing that made me smile and touched my heart. It was a stack of Post-it flags on my desk when I got to work one morning this week. I work for a nonprofit where we measure the cost of feeding children in orphanages and refugee camps around the world in quarters. Yet we are a small staff who all wear a ton of hats, so it can be easy to lose focus on small ways to not be wasteful as we rush through our tasks.
I've become the annoying office person making sure people recycle, and we use what we have so we can save money, and we don't order what we don't need, etc. it means a lot to me, but really only me. The other five of us don't take it very seriously.
But I showed up on Friday and there was a stack of post-it flags I had used to flag some copies on a check deposit for our finance director. She saved them all so I could reuse them and stuck them on my desk for me. Such a small guesture, but I still smile when I think of it!

Walking my dog through my neighborhood just now, on a lovely crips Fall day. What should have been maybe a 20-minute walk (distance-wise I mean) took me an hour because of everyone who was also outside enjoying the weather. Of course I had to stop and talk to everyone, and my dog had to stop and talk to her friends too. I love my neighborhood.

It is a gorgeous day in southern California also. Our leaves don't fall until later, but it's coming one of these days. I sure can't complain about our winters most of the time either--other than I'd LOVE to have some snow sometime.

My Dad's new girlfriend is awesome. We are heading out to a surprise party for her tonight. She invited us to her house last weekend and her house is just so eccentric and awesome. She is really a very interesting person. And Dad seems happy too.

My great niece is expecting a baby boy in 3 weeks. She works at the front desk of a hotel so she sees quite a few people each day. Many often comment on her belly and ask when she is due etc. But what is amazing is how generous a couple of the guests have been. One came in the next day with a diaper bouquet. Diaper Bouquet (link until I can figure out how to post pics) It is soooooo pretty. A few days later, a gentleman handed her a $100 bill and told her to promise him she would spend it on the baby. Amazing generosity from complete strangers! Makes my heart happy.

Taking my daughter to goodwill today to get stuff for her professor trelawny costume. She was so smart to go there and she’s going to be so adorable! Last year she was Martin crane from Frasier! Yes, she’s a junior in high school but the marching band has a parade downtown and the city dies down town trick or treating. Last year they performed ghostbusters with all these little kids in costume following them in the parade. So much fun.

I'm halfway through chemo. They reduced my last dose and they've reduced my steroids a bit. I feel really good. I've been out for meals/coffee four times this week and sat outside in the sunshine. Today we went to an alpaca farm and my sister came too. I am 35 next week. Occasionally I'm surprised I've made it this far!

Our carbon monoxide detector went off earlier. Our fire department responded quickly and called in the gas company. We’re on our way home with a new stove. Everyone was so kind and helpful. We’re alive and well.

If I lived in your neighborhood, I'd be *that* woman who stops and pets your dog every time

I'm CONSTANTLY talking about the rough road I've been facing for about a year now. There have been times with smiles and happy, loving times in there............
A HAPPY moment happened the other day when I won 4 tickets to see Sir Elton John in NY on 11/16/19. Unreal!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got the pre-sale tickets since I've been a fanclub member since the 1970's.... My sis paid for it which makes it all better. As soon as DH realized how much the tickets will soon go for, he said, "Hey, we could stand outside the venue and charge a few thousand per ticket!" NO!!! I can't wait to go and to have him see Elton.
Great news for a change. Now if we could both be healthy and make it to NY in a year, things will be GREAT.

I usually do my grocery shopping by myself, today my husband decided to tag along. We made a whole day of it. Got lunch, stopped by the mall, and finally made our way to Trader Joe’s. It wasn’t anything spectacular or mind blowing, but we had so much fun just the two of us.

My oldest, 24, is buying his first house next weekend. It is a four bedroom two bath house with a fireplace and he is putting down 1/3 of the price for the downpayment. He went to college for two years and couldn't decide what he wanted to be when he grew up. He still doesn't know, but has a good job and works 12 hours days most days. He's a very hard worker and his boss loves him. I've been enjoying shopping for new stuff for his room and items I know he doesn't know he needs.

So I love the movie Hocus Pocus.
My Mom & I always watch it, and scream out "Sisters!" LOL...
So, my little one is 9. She is on the spectrum. She sat down and watched it with us tonight, and she LOVED it. She screamed out the "Sisters" part with us, and just laughed...
After it went off she got tears...and said she loved it. Then asked if we could put it on her iPad. LOLOLOL! I just love that she liked it, and thinks it is funny like we do...sometimes she gets overwhelmed with her emotions...so for her to really love being in here, and laugh, and look at us frequently to see if we were loving it too, means a lot.

Thanks for an uplifting thread MichyM! I'm tickled these days because our 28yo DD dropped everything to fly to Canada to help her Babcia (grandma, my mum) while mum was in rehab and during her first days home. DD worked remotely and spent some time with my mom each day while she was in rehab, and then full-time once she was back. Granddaughters are the best medicine! Especially ones that speak her native Polish! I got to overlap with DD for her last day here, and now I'm here for three weeks.

I'm favorite yarn company based in Michigan was in NYC for a trunk show. I figured I wouldn't be able to go; the yarn is pricey and I've been trying to restrain myself from buying non necessities. I mentioned this to DH. Who proceeded to put money in my bank account. And then he was so excited for me and my yarn. And he paid a speeding ticket I didn't know I even had.
Oh and I had a friend over (something I never do) to show her some scrapbooking tips.

Usually I do the morning walk and my dh does the evening walk. He takes her out at 8:00 right after "Jeopardy" is over, unless it's in the middle of summer and blazing hot...then he might wait till later. When he travels though I have to do both walks. He's in Kazakhstan at the moment which means I do the evening walk by 5:00. Then we do a quick potty break around 10:00, which my dog is just as happy to do quickly also because she wants to go to bed. lol. I don't walk late because I watch "Criminal Minds" and I know what happens to people out there.

My kids' band scored a 86.8 - an almost 5 points improvement from last week. What makes that even better is that last week, they had perfect marching weather. Today, it rained through most of their rehearsal and the wind chill at performance time was 28. That's cold!!
Ford Field, here we come!

Love when we are all together. It was a great day.

My DD sent me a ticket to NYC for Christmas, saying that she was not spending another Christmas without me. She is 38, and the last Christmas we had together was 10 years ago when she was in Chicago, and she has lived out of state since she was 20. She cannot travel over the holidays because of work and custody arrangements for her son. It will be our first Christmas together as 3 generations, and my grandson is 5. I am touched that she made all arrangements for everything including transportation to airport 2 hours away.
In the past we could never arrange it with her work, etc. I think my heart attack, bypass, and health issues this year scared her a bit, and she made it happen. I am touched by her thoughtfulness.
