We did a a year or two ago, it was at a pawn shop that advertised "we buy gold". It was just some broken chains and I think a ring, they checked to make sure it was real, weighed it and then told us what it was worth. We accepted and walked out with cash  |

Yep, I've done it a few times...sold some silver coins too. They're legit. I've gotten several hundred dollars a crack

I do it at real jewelry stores because they will repair and clean stuff for resale - those pop up "WE BUY GOLD" places just send the stuff off to get melted down. Also, many of my gold items also had stones and gems in them that added to the overall value, I don't think that applies at those other places.

I did it several years ago. I price-compared 3 places. A "We buy gold" store and two locally owned jewelry stores. One of the local places gave me almost twice as much as the other. The "We Buy Gold" store was in the middle.

Most places will give you a price, but you don't have to accept it. You can check a few places and see who is giving the most money. At least the stores here will do that.

I did. I sold some assorted pieces of 14K and 18K gold at a storefront, not a pawnshop. The guy had a way to determine the karat weight of the gold and purchased solely on the weight of the gold. I went in expecting to get maybe a couple hundred dollars. Nope. $3500!  Just be aware that if your piece has any stones in it, you will not receive anything for them. They are buying strictly gold and stones have no value to them. |

I've done it. I took a broken chain to two different jewelry stores that advertise they buy gold and got a quote from them. One of them offered significantly more than the other, so I sold it to them.

I did a few years back. Got like $900 for the few earrings, a chain, a bracelet and a ring. They tested them right there on the spot to see if they were real.

I did it once. I had some broken, old jewelry that I didn't like to begin with so wasn't interested in getting repaired. I did a little research on the stores in our area and discovered that a jewelry store that I've purchased from before buys gold. I decided to go with them because I trusted them. I felt like I got a very fair offer and was happy with the transaction. They were professional and I didn't feel like they were trying to take advantage or lowball.

I did it with the engagement ring my ex-husband gave me, as well as a few broken necklaces to a gold buying kiosk in the mall. They made sure it was all real gold and I got cash on the spot. I signed off on the diamonds that were in the ring, but they were just chips anyway. I was actually thinking of doing it with a few more rings he gave me.

We had a leaflet pushed through our door very early one morning, and I had actually been thinking about selling my broken bits and pieces. So, when they came back in the afternoon I had everything ready to show them.
They tested everything by scratching the surface of the gold and putting an acid of some sort on it. They weren't interested in the stones and I wish I had taken the time to remove and keep them (perhaps sold them on eBay.)
