I'm in shock that my workhorse Big Shot just broke. My problem is that the plates, die, and paper are 1/2 way through. The handle is frozen and won't turn forwards or backwards. How do I get the plates and die out of the machine? I've tried pulling, pushing, a hammer, a rubber mallet. Nothing budges. I'm so upset, especially since it's my favorite die. Hoping some one can help, pretty please with a cherry on top. Seriously, I'm down on my knees begging.

Pull out the plastic plug on the handle. There’s a hex screw in there. Try to see if that will loosen anything or possibly tighten. Other than that, I’m not sure!

Definitely try contacting Sizzix. I've read so many stories over the years from other crafters who have had similar issues and customer support was able to walk them through how to loosen things up to get the die out. Here are a couple of different ways to contact them: Phone: 877.355.4766 (7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. PST Monday through Friday) Online Email Form: www.sizzix.com/contact

I still have a broken big shot with a die stuck in it. I've asked DH and DS to try and get it out...the machine is toast (I bought a new one ages ago). I want my die, and maybe my platform back! If you figure out a solution, let me know ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Q_m8lDOvc_3Le3r1GKdf.jpg)

So sorry. That happened to us with a Big Shot Express. Magnetic platform and die were stuck in it. We took it apart as best we could but could never get the platform or die out. We had to buy a new platform and die. Hope yours comes out.

I had that happen to me a couple years ago- I think my “sandwich” was too thick and it caused the machine to jam. I ended up taking the machine completely apart to get the die out. By the time I tried to put it back together, I couldn’t figure it out, so had to buy a new one(but the new one was a cuter color:). I am moving so I’m busy decluttering my craft room so I hate to just throw it away but I know in reality I won’t spend the time to try to figure it out.

Look on the bottom of the Big Shot, there should be screws. Take those out and I think you can take the Big Shot apart. You should be able to get the die out this way. Not sure on the Big Shot working after though. hmp PM me if you want a good deal on a gently used Big Shot.

Oh gosh... The same thing happened to me a few years ago with my Big Shot. I overfed the sandwich and it got stuck, right in the middle of a crucial project. I took out every screw I could find, and it still didn't come apart. (BE careful if you DO get it to come apart, because it's under tension, and the bars are solid steel. You could get injured!) It sounds drastic, but I took a sledgehammer to it to release my platform and die. It was in a zillion pieces when I got done with it, and I took a picture. I posted it on my blog several years ago, and wrote a pretty hysterical obituary for it. At the time, Blogger allowed you to have music accompany your posts, so the music was Queen's "Another One Bites The Dust." I have to say, the post did make me smile, even thought it was not a fun occasion.
Not too long after that, I jammed a VERY expensive E-Bosser machine the same way, only this time I used that rubber mat with the platforms and that screwed me. Same deal. I took out every screw, only this time I got the plate out without the sledgehammer. AFTER I did that, I read the bottom of the machine: taking apart the machine VOIDS the warranty! Oh CRAP!!! So I threw it away, and then tried to negotiate a new one with Craftwell. They were not amused, and refused.
I now have a Crossover with an adjustable tension system, so that will never happen again. I also have a Cuttlebug that I use most often. I hope I learned my lesson(s), though I did gain some infamy as an embossing machine murderer.
