Acting AG Said in 2014 Judges Need A Biblical View of Justice The Guardian article I posted has a headline that reads "Matthew Whitaker: acting attorney general said judges should be Christian" which in all honesty, I believe is misleading. When he is questioned whether he means Old Testament or New, he says "I'm an New Testament..." but I didn't hear him specifically say "judges should be Christian". I didn’t think the title was misleading. The question was: Levitical or New Testament? Isn’t that a roundabout way of asking Jewish (or any non-Christian) or Christian? I’m going to tag lucyg and elaine for their impressions because I am not in any way qualified to speak about Judaism (I’m not qualified to speak about Christianity either). However, that’s the impression I got. The point of the article does not escape me, though. If he believes that judges are inherently unqualified due to only having a secular worldview, then we’re going to have bigger problems than when Session was AG. Obviously, the whole point of the article is that he believes non-religious/secular people are unqualified to be judges and that is scary. I just wanted to point out that at no point did I hear him specifically say "judges should only be Christian". Speaking as a Jew, I wouldn't infer that was his meaning from what I heard in that video.

Strictly speaking if he said judges needed a “biblical view of justice” and questioned the judgment of secular lawyers. Are they people of faith? Do they have a biblical view of justice? Which I think is very important.” Whitaker opted for the New Testament.
By his choice of the New Testament as his own biblical view then he's confirming it's Christianity. He doesn't have to actually use the word Christian to say so. IMO if he had meant to include Jews then he would have answered The Bible and not specifically the New Testament when referring to people of faith.

Speaking as a Jew, I wouldn't infer that was his meaning from what I heard in that video. Reading the transcript: To me both of these responses mean Christian. First, asking Levitical vs New Testament is just another way of asking Jewish vs. Christian religious views on justice. Justice is presented differently in the Old and New Testaments and to say you want New Testament judges is a way to express Christian. It is brilliant that the conservative blogger couched his questions in terms that allow Whitaker to say he wants Christian judges without having to say those exact words. Second, and more importantly, is the second part. Whitaker clearly says that unless you have a religious view that there is an afterlife, you won’t be a good judge. Anyone who doesn’t believe in an afterlife - and it is NOT part of most sects of Judaism, in addition to agnostics and atheists - would be cause for concern in his mind. I will hazard a guess that belief Christian afterlife/heaven is preferential for him than a Muslim one.

It's an issue of WHICH religion should be the qualifying worldview, and in his opinion it's Christianity.

“New rule from the GOP: you count votes until the Republican candidate is ahead, then you stop.”
Sadly, after today’s events, you really can’t argue with that.

Watching Rachel Maddow can be so damn depressing.
Tonight’s subject is the possible real reason why trump booted Sessions and put in his place scam man Matt.
Mueller and his team can’t directly indict trump. What they can do is write a report outlining their findings with the intent of turning it over to Congress so they can decide if these finding rise to the level of impeaching trump.
However Mueller & his team can’t directly give this report to Congress, it has to go through the person who’s job in the DOJ that has oversight over Mueller and his investigation.
So as of yesterday, what do you think the chances of that report making its way to Congress if it lays out a case against trump?

Let's not forget Palm Beach Co, if you haven't screwed up enough yet just defy a court order until you do. These 2 counties have been an election shitshow in FL going back to the early 2000s.

It has been suggested that Mueller, and committee, are writing the report and speculation that indictments may have already been processed through Rosenstein, although he has now said that Whitaker is a wonderful choice........ And yes, Mueller will be called to testify before the house Judiciary Committee. I also think they can subpeona(sp) the report. ** Rosenstein calls Whitaker 'superb' choice for acting AG: report BY JOHN BOWDEN - 11/09/18 04:57 PM EST Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein reportedly offered strong praise for the new interim head of the Justice Department on Friday, calling acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker a "superb" choice to take the reins from Jeff Sessions. ABC News reports that Rosenstein commented on the transition at a swearing-in ceremony for U.S. Attorney Zach Terwilliger on Friday, calling Whitaker a "superb choice for attorney general" who "certainly understands the work, understands the priorities of the department.” When asked about the future of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into the Trump campaign and Russian election interference, Rosenstein reportedly declined to answer questions and walked away. ** thehill.com/homenews/administration/416015-rosenstein-calls-whitaker-superb-choice-for-acting-ag

They’re still counting in California, and Arizona, and Georgia. Probably other states, too. Are they supposed to quit counting once the Republicans are happy with the results, before the rest of the vote is counted? Rick Scott claims the liberals are trying to steal the election. He should be smart enough to know better. I think he’s been listening to Donald Trump too much. P.S. no one is accusing California of trying to steal the election. It’s only when you want to argue with the results.

But given your history, it doesn’t fit your narrative and your preference sides always with the GOP—party of disgrace, dishonesty, and divisive. If the tables were turned Republicans would be filing lawsuits in court hand over fist.

It’s only when you want to argue with the results. Yep. No accusations in Texas, either - and we Democrats are NOT happy with the results. But all the votes have been counted and certified, so it is what it is. (Whether or not some voter suppression took place in Texas is a whole other deal.) This narrative that's being pushed from the White House on down that counting every vote is somehow akin to fraud is dangerous and divisive. But they know that. They don't have the Russians undermining democracy on their behalf this time, so they've got to do it themselves. Fun fact: It's Veterans' Day weekend and there are plenty of ceremonial events to attend. Wildfires are raging and we've just had another mass shooting. Major midterm races remain undecided. So where is the leader of our country this weekend? Meeting with Putin in Paris.

I literally cannot swallow anymore of this bullshit. It is now a daily basis that I say out loud that I am thankful we don’t live in the States anymore. It is not the country that I used to know and I fear she may never recover.

It’s only when you want to argue with the results. NJ just passed a new law this summer that ALL ballots postmarked by Election Day that arrive at the designated office by 2 days after (Thursday) must be counted. In the past, too many ballots posted on Saturday did not arrive until Wednesday. So technically they could be counting for the entire week in NJ no matter who is ahead. The county clerk knows how many absentee ballots were mailed out so the number they can receive back is a defined number, so they know if there are enough ballots to make a difference.

I want her to follow the rules just like every other county, including the devastated hurricane area, managed to do. This woman has a history that makes it hard to believe she's doing her job properly. If Nelson had been ahead and suddenly fell behind by a massive discovery of votes he would have been running to the courts too and given the history of this woman I wouldn't have blamed him for doing so. I have no problem accepting the outcome as long as it's legitimate and the process was handled correctly and according to the law.

I literally cannot swallow anymore of this bullshit. It is now a daily basis that I say out loud that I am thankful we don’t live in the States anymore. It is not the country that I used to know and I fear she may never recover. Your right, it is not the same country. I’d like to disagree with you that it will recover but I can’t. And I’m pretty sure I probably owe you an apology. Prior to you moving I am sure I disagreed with you on the direction the country was moving, perhaps on more than one occasion. Unfortunately I had my rose colored glasses firmly in place and refused to see it but you were right. I was wrong. You were absolutely right. The bigotry was there all along just under the surface. My kids have dealt with anti semetism growing up but it was usually couched in stupidity or ignorance so one could imply that they just didn’t know better. And over the years my kids have said just that, so & so just doesn’t know better. And some of the time that might have been true. But in hindsight I can’t believe it was always because they didn’t know better. Then there’s the blanket of ‘most of society doesn’t feel that way, most of society condemns bigotry’ And you say that to yourself and you think it and you pretend it is true. But it wasn’t, isn’t, & probably never will be. Most of society is relieved that it isn’t them. Which is not the same thing as actually being against bigotry. In the last 2 years the anti semetism, racism & bigotry of all kinds has been out and proud and no longer pretending to be ignorant. And if you bring it up the Trump supporters all poo poo you because ‘his daughter is Jewish he’s not anti semitic’ Maybe, maybe not, but he definitely is an asshole playing with Fire reving up all these white supremacists who are out & about and committing acts of bigotry all over. And society as a whole is clearly relieved the target is not them. I have always tried to see the good in my fellow human, but lately I have a hard time being hopeful in anyway. So I’m sorry for any past discussions where I didn’t really hear you. You were right. I was wrong. I was clinging to what I wanted to be real rather than what was actually happening.

NOT just Florida..There are still ballots being counted in NJ.... No final results until Tuesday. There are still 6,400 votes to count. MacArthur's chances of beating Kim are slimUpdated 7:00 AM; Posted Nov 9, 6:17 PM With at least 6,400 provisional ballots still left to be counted, it's looking unlikely -- but not impossible -- that incumbent Republican Tom MacArthur will be able to take back the 3rd congressional district from current front-runner, Democrat Andy Kim. It will be early next week by the time election workers in two New Jersey counties finish counting the remaining ballots, and despite Kim declaring a victory on Wednesday, MacArthur has not conceded. As of late Friday, Kim held a lead of 3,424 votes over MacArthur -- 150,311 to 146,887. Those figures included mail-in ballots but not the provisionals. After trailing the GOP congressman on Election Night, Kim pulled ahead late this week after the counties concluded counting mail-in ballots -- 25,000 in Burlington, and nearly 31,000 in Ocean. A new state law allows up to 48 hours to count ballots postmarked by Election Day. ** More at link: www.nj.com/burlington/index.ssf/2018/11/andy_kim_tom_macarthur_donald_trump_election_congr.htmlMacArthur has been FULLY supporting dt. Came in handy for my DD but it wasn’t great for everyone.
