My laptop at work died and I had to get Windows 10 and I still hate it. Not getting used to it.
My home personal laptop is on it's last leg which has Windows 7. I really don't want another machine with Windows 10 on it.
How different would a Macbook be? The only Apple product I have ever used is my iPhone, which I love. (My 70 year old mother has a Samsung and I struggle to figure out her phone to help her with questions.)
Are there reasons I should get an Apple laptop versus putting up with Windows 10? I don't need a big powerful laptop for home use, just some Word, Excel, and Photo Shop Elements for some photos. That is all. I do use the laptop for my Silhouette Cameo 2 (not Wi-Fi), but nothing else. Well, a printer.
Suggestions?

Having two different laptops like that means two different file formats. PC software will not work on Apple. I am not sure about the files created with one being able to be used by the other, used to be you could not. But times have changed. But for me the biggest drawback is the price. Apple laptops are way more expensive than PC laptops - at least the ones I have looked at when thinking of making the switch.

PC software will not work on Apple. There is "Windows for Mac" software. I can open any and all documents, excel etc on my MAC laptop. You can buy refurbished and warranted Mac laptops on the Apple site. Yes they are more expensive but they last way longer than PC.

If you are used to and like your iPhone it would not be a huge adjustment. I work on a PCs all day, but all my personal devices at home are MAC. I have no problem switching between the two.
Once you go MAC you never go back! 😉🤣🤣

Im a mac girl. I have various apple products. Went in to look at a new laptop and walked out of the store very annoyed. The new laptops have different charging systems and I would have to buy new adapters for everything in order to use it the way I use my current laptop. While I love apple, this constant having to either upgrade everything or buy expensive adapters just to make everything work seamlessly drives me insane. I don't have that out of date equipment, with the exception of my current laptop which I got 6 years ago. All my phone chargers, iPad chargers and dvd drive would be unusable with the new laptop. Irritated the daylights out of me when they got rid of the phone jack too. My wireless headphones don't last more than 3 hours so any flight I make they are useless. The new adapter breaks way to easily and not cheap to replace. Yeah Im a little annoyed with apple. Then i got on a windows laptop and remembered why Im a mac girl

I’d suggest going to the Apple store and taking one for a test drive to see if you like it before buying one. Yes, they’re more expensive but it will likely last 2-3-4x longer than a typical Windows machine. I have my MIL’s 2009 MacBook Pro and it’s still going strong, the only thing is that now it’s so old that they aren’t supporting it with OS updates any longer. At some point I’ll have to upgrade just for that reason.

I think we need to know WHAT are the things you hate about Windows 10 to be able to give advice.

I've had macs for 20 years now, but my next laptop will most likely be a windows machine. I love windows 8/10 - I use it every day at work. I'm curious what you don't like about it? I really think it might just be an adjustment period, but it would also be an adjustment to use a mac.

TO me, windows 10 is very reminiscent of a slightly older mac screen and the way it works. I hate windows 10 and the things that I hate are the exact things that are the standard way of doing things on a mac.

I looked at a Mac before buying my current Windows 10 laptop. The Mac was hundreds of dollars more expensive. Just couldn't justify spending so much more.

the other reason to buy apple is the fabulous apple care support... you talk to someone in the US.. and the support is great!!!

I switched from a PC to a Mac 7 yeats ago and would never go back. Yes, they’re more expensive but IMO more intuitive and, as someone else said they last longer. I still have my original MacBook Pro (late 2011 model) although I’ve replaced the hard drive with a SSD and added more RAM.
I’d definitely recommend going into an Apple Store and trying one out.

Lasting longer and good apple Care support are both anecdotal.
My 2015 mbp has a known issue, the screen is delaminating. There is a recall for this, but if you talk to them on the phone or online, they will tell you they can't say for sure that it is the same issue as the recall, so you may be on the hook for the cost of the repair. I live at least 2 hours from the closest apple store, so just dropping in to have them check it really isn't an option.
My husband has also gone through 3 high end Mbps in the past 6 years, all due to hardware failure.
Eta: but the number 1 reason I won't buy a new mbp currently is that they got rid of magsafe. I ruined 2 iBooks before the Advent of magsafe and I think it was one of their most innovative decisions for a laptop. I have no problems with USB-C, but not for a power supply for a laptop.
