My instant pot doesn’t always seal so it doesn’t get to pressure. I know that I’m setting it right and I did just replace the silicone seal. Any ideas on what to do? Thanks.

Clean the area the lid sits in and make sure the little cup in the back is empty.

How do you know it isn’t sealing? Where is the steam coming out? Is the valve in the correct position?

Mine does that too. I set it and walk away only to come back and see the countdown but the silver seal hasn’t popped up.

The only time I have ever had that happen was when the silicone seal wasn’t seated just right (usually after removing it to wash separately and not getting it back into the lid completely or properly).

Mine does that too. I set it and walk away only to come back and see the countdown but the silver seal hasn’t popped up. That happens also if something is scorched on the bottom, not that it hasn’t sealed. If you don’t see steam coming out from places it shouldn’t, don’t assume the problem is that it isn’t sealing. It is more likely that something has scorched and then it switches over to countdown as a safety feature. Open the lid, stir and check to see if there is stuff burned on bottom. If so, use serving spoon to scrape as much off as possible. Add more liquid and stir. If you are cooking a large piece of meat, use a rack so it isn’t sitting on the bottom.

Mine does that sometimes too. I found that running the lid under cold water... the underside, over the seal... helps sometimes. Other times, I've just pushed down on the lid and the float valve pops right up. It seems to depend on the fullness of my pot... with lesser quantities, the valve pops up on its own.

I have read that putting the seal in the freezer helps refresh it.

It's possible there isn't enough liquid or the bottom of the pot is scorched.

My ring seems to slip out of the groove just a touch sometimes. If I press down on the lid, it'll click back into place and seal fine.

Make sure the track is clean and you have to make sure the ring is not hot.
I run the whole lid ( both sides) under cold water. Dry it really well.

Ugh. Honestly, this is why I am not in love with Instant pot cooking. So much trouble shooting. Tonight I did potatoes in my pot, it didn’t seal, potatoes weren’t done, then I had to guess on how much time to add. Ended up over cooking them, and they fell apart in the water, so, then I had water logged potatoes. Seemed to seal fine with my roast, but, even after the full cooking time plus extra time on the NPR, my roast was still tough. Also, it took forever to brown it with the sauté function. I dunno, ladies. I love it for hard boiled eggs and corn on the cob, but, the trouble shooting just adds too much stress to meal times for me. Dinner was an hour late tonight as I fiddled and fought with the Instant Pot. Trying to love it, though! Erin

I put my lid through the dishwasher and the hard water built up around the little silver part that pops up to seal it. Luckily I noticed it didn't seal there so I pushed on it gently with the tip of a sharp knife and it popped right up into place and sealed. I keep an eye on it now, but haven't had the problem again. I also hand wash the lid now. Perhaps a drop of vegetable oil on that part would keep it from sticking if that's the problem.
