I drove Suburban's for the last 20 years and thought i'd never find something smaller that I liked. You have to walk some lots and drive some and you'll come around. The bells and whistles might change your mind some. I got the Durango and love it. I was almost sad when spring came because the heated steering wheel felt unnecessary lol.

They are all minivans and round. I will be getting a new car soon. I would like a small SUV. Why, oh why, did they do away with SUV’s? I want square. I want to ride off the ground. I want a freaking SUV. Such issues in my life. Lol! I am with you! I have a 2013 Escape. It's nice, it's good, but not an SUV! I'd love to see them return.

Understand completely.
I have a 2003 Escape. Looked at a Mercury Mariner in the next body style. It was a nice vehicle, but I couldn’t imagine driving a blue car. We have a blue Subaru. LOL!
I dread the day my Escape is beyond repairing. Was thinking of replacing it with a Subaru Crosstrek. Leaning toward the idea of a Tacoma truck instead.

My DH drives a 2003 Escape. We have had several people stop at our house to ask if they can buy it. If it was for sale we'd have a for sale sign on it... The newer Escapes look like cars not SUV's. I like my SUV's square too.

Just got a RAV4 Limited and really like it...much much nicer than I expected. Very quiet smooth ride and incredible number of bells and whistles. We were going to get the Honda CRV but wanted red...Honda has really drab colors. We were treated like imbeciles at the Honda dealer. The jerk implied that DH couldn’t control his wife because I objected to the colors. The jerks classic was...oh, when you are inside the car you won’t notice the color of the outside. Big factor was the navigation system on RAV4 that came with it. We had a Chevy trailblazer for 14 years.

I found the opposite to be true last year when I was mini van shopping. Most manufacturers are getting away from mini vans and going to suvs. There are 5 dealerships in my town not one of them stocked a minivan and I think ford no longer makes a van. Just the utility vans.

The Mazda CX-5 is still a little boxy looking, just with rounded corners.

I love my GMC Acadia. I like a bigger SUV and this fits the bill for me. It sits up higher than my Honda CRV and seats 7.

I've only driven big SUV's (or as I call them "Real SUV's ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Q_m8lDOvc_3Le3r1GKdf.jpg) ) for 35+ years. Currently I'm driving a Lexus GX. It is a bit more rounded than my cars in the past but it drives like a dream. I looked at the Toyota 4 Runner (an excellent vehicle IMO), but it was just too tight of a fit for DH. The Landcruiser was awesome but more than I wanted to spend. Toyota makes a Prado which is the perfect size SUV for me, but doesn't sell it in the US. The equivalent is the Lexus GX so that's what I ended up with. I love my GMC Acadia. I like a bigger SUV and this fits the bill for me. It sits up higher than my Honda CRV and seats 7. We rented an Acadia on vacation a few years ago and really liked it. If I was forced to step down to a crossover, this would be high on my list.

I get it TankTop I prefer the boxier SUVS too. My Tahoe is an older model and Im ready to bite the bullet this springs and buy something new. I hate the new Tahoe body style, it looks like a hearse. So I've been looking at Jeep Rubicons/Wranglers, Ford Flexs and a few others. But my dream boxy luxury SUV is a Mercedes G Wagon. Totally not in my price range...but hey that's why it's a dream car. ![](https://www.mobmasker.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Mercedes-Benz-G-Wagon-cool-10.png)

I have looked at every major manufacturer. I do not like the crossover look. They all sit too low and have a rounded back end. Maybe I need to spend more time on the lots and not looking online. I will look up the ones mentioned here. Thank you! I really wish they had the old body style of the Explorer or Escape. You might want to look at the 2019 Rav 4. that is what I am waiting for. It sits a little higher than the 2018 rav. We rented a 2018 rav to drive to wisconsin last month to see our daughter. I liked it. But I am waiting for the new body style. the front end it def more boxy looking and looks like a rugged little suv. 2019 Ravs are coming in Dec. for the non hybrid version and Jan 2019 for the hybrid. They are supposed to be releasing more info about the 2019 tomorrow or wed. so far, all I have seen are pics. No price point and no fuel economy has been released yet.

I went from a small SUV (GMC Terrain) to the 4Runner. The 4Runner has everything I wanted. Higher off the ground, plenty of storage, great ratings, longevity of model (30 years in 2019!). We've used it in the snow and off-roading. This is by far the best car I have ever owned.
ETA: I really liked my Terrain when I first got it, but after all the engine and transmission problems I will never buy another first model year again. I want something reliable with all the kinks worked out.

When I mentioned this to my friends, they all thought I was crazy. I wanted a square SUV and not a minivan look alike. So. many crossovers. Not for me. I ended up with a Toyota 4 Runner. It is square. OP, so glad to know I am not crazy, or if I am, I am in good company. ETA: In my old SUV (Trailblazer,) I got about 286 miles per tank. With my 4 Runner, I get a good 80-90 miles more per tank and they both hold the same amount. ETA Part Deux: A lady I know had 2 4Runners. One had 150,000 and the other had 200,000. That worked for me. I love my Four Runner, for me it’s the perfect dog vehicle. I keep my full size crate and two folding chairs in the back. I love mine and as usual don’t want to even think about giving it up. Luckily I only have 87,000 miles on it (it’s a 2007).

Small SUV's? Honda CRV, Toyota Rav4, Ford Escape, Jeep Cherokee come to mind off the top of my head. I'm sure there are more. I see them all over the place here. Was there a particular feature that you're not finding (other than a boxy shape). They all ride high. I have a Nissan Juke which is a compact SUV, and even it rides higher than a car, which is one of the reasons I like it. My DH drives a Juke and I always feel like I'm sitting on the ground in that car. But I drive a Mazda CX-9 which is huge. He loves his too.

Me too! I had a 2004 Jeep Liberty that I loved and Jeep no longer makes. I replaced it in July and ended up getting a Ford Escape. I am happy with the Ford but would have bought another Liberty if it was available. I did try the Jeep Renegade -- it is more of that square shape and sits high off the ground. But I just could not get comfortable in it for some reason -- adjusted the seat every which way, changed the head rest, the steering wheel. Kind of felt like my head was being forced forward? It might work for you, though. Give it a try.

When we sold our Jetta back to VW I nixed the idea of a second sedan. I wanted room to transport something bigger than a suitcase. We settled on the Infiniti QX 50 which is a crossover, roomy but not too big, and drives like a car. I insisted on the heated steering wheel which I ❤️❤️❤️!!!

All I see are small SUVs in our area. I've noticed though that the mid-size ones (Highlander, etc) are getting long and very mini van-ish looking.
I thought I was gonna get a RAV4 or CRV and ended up in an Outback. Surprised myself, but I like it for my 90 mile commute each day (especially as we're almost $4/gal here and I need more MPG).
