Why is that so expensive? Found a couple of table tops, but the shipping is outrageous and the nearest store is 5 hours away. Looking for other suggestions...

Shipping IS expensive!! Gas is expensive, paying people to load the truck, drive to your house, and unload it is expensive.

Around our IKEA there are signs from individuals that offer to pick up and deliver.. so I would assume they are much cheaper. I am sure they are just guys with trucks that can make a buck of just hauling IKEA stuff for you.

Yes I get expensive shipping costs, but a table top for $49 and the shipping is $349.00 - that is just too much! Thanks,

Because of weight and sizes they are probably quoting "freight" shipping which is a whole other layer of UPS/Fedex shipping.

That is a lot of money! The shipping costs also depend on how far you are from IKEA. We had our entire IKEA kitchen delivered to us for around $200.

Yes, there are crazy expensive. A small bookcase was going to cost us 2x the cost of the bookcase to ship it. Thankfully, St. Louis is getting an Ikea this next year. No more weekend Ikea runs to Chicago.

We live about 45 minutes from an IKEA and it was $149 shipping for several of the Expediet bookcase units. I think it was 16 boxes total. It was $149 flat rate no matter how much we had delivered. However, my Mom live about 3 hours from an IKEA and it was going to cost her $369 for a $69 Expediet. We just picked one up for her and took it to her the next time that we visited. It depends on where you live. Some of their delivery prices can be shocking.

Our local Craigslist has listings for independent delivery services. As mentioned, it's probably just a couple of guys with a truck, but it might be cheaper for you.

I wanted to order 2 of the Raskog carts. If I ordered one, shipping was $21. If I ordered two, shipping was almost $200. Needless to say, I placed two separate orders. Funny thing is, on one of them I added a fintorp rail, hooks, little trash bin and 2 plastic bag holders and the shipping only went up by a few cents. I checked ebay and amazon first and it was still cheaper to pay the $21 per cart shipping.

Yes, their shipping is outrageous! We go to MOA in Minneapolis every January for a dance competition so I just wait until then. My daughter is a senior this year so it will be our last trip so I plan to get everything I can!

I wanted a Kallax for my daughters room but I am 4-5 hours from the MOA store and I just couldn't justify the shipping or the gas so I had to go with a different idea. I usually get down there a few times a year but the problem is getting down there with a big enough vehicle to fit the furniture.
