I have the dreaded colonoscopy tomorrow and it will be my 3rd one- my dad died of colon cancer. Anyway I've had 3 different preps over the years. This time I have SuPrep- liquid to mix with something clear and drink twice. Instructions are to start at 6PM and I can take up to an hour to drink. Next dose is at 1AM. My question is do you think I can start a couple of hours earlier? My colonoscopy is at 8 AM. I don't want to be up all night. I have been on clear liquids all day. And I've never had to start a prep this late before. Go ahead and jump on me for not wanting to follow doctor's orders.

I did follow my doctors orders. But my doctors orders were different then yours. I had to finish whatever limited food I was looked to eat by 5 pm then finish 1st dose of superpowers by 6 then take the second between 10-11pm
For some reason I can’t figure out the second dose was WORSE than the first one. I had to mentally work not to vomit. My fried had the superpower last week and she also said the second dose was worse.
Many HUGs to you and wishes for a smooth procedure tomorrow.

I'd start early, but only a few hours early (not 8 hours or anything).
Good luck.

I hate the prep and since I have to have one every 6 months because of Crohn's, Celiac and a family history of colon cancer I eat light do liquids the day before and 2 8oz bottles of ice cold Magnesium Citrate one at 6pm and one at 11pm with cold water the night before the test. It's like drinking super salty flat Sprite but it works far better than quarts of Go Lightly or the gallon of weird blue white chalky crap that I gag and vomit up.

I just downed the first dose with Sprite Zero- tasted like Nyquil- not horrible. Not sure about that second dose at 11:30 though...

I always follow prep instructions to a T, because I won't risk having to re-do it, ever. It's just the worst. I wish you clear scope.

I think you'd be fine doing it a little early. I've done the prep 3 times this year and all the instructions were slightly different (2 different hospitals.) The last time around was for colon surgery and the prep was at 12 pm and 4 pm and that is it. The surgery was scheduled for 3 pm, the instructions preprinted so seems like it wasn't adjusted no matter the time of day. dh had his colonoscopy and it was 3 part (5 pm, 9ish pm and then supposed to be around 2 am). He skipped 2 am and was fine. I'm a rule follower and was a little annoyed that his normally not so rule following self got away with it

The last thing you want is to start too early and not be cleaned out. You can catch up on sleep tomorrow!

I had a 7:00 AM procedure and was instructed to drink the Suprep at 4:00 PM and 10:00 PM the day before, after a liquid diet all day. It's interesting that the prep instructions vary so much from doctor to doctor.
I wasn't told that I could mix the Suprep with anything other than water and it was so nasty. I willed myself to get the second dose down without vomiting because I didn't want to risk having to repeat the prep and procedure. I'll definitely mix with some other liquid the next time around!

DH has a colonoscopy on Wednesday. He is in the store right now getting his prep materials. None of it involves late night prepping like yours even though his procedure is very early. My prep was clear liquids after noon the day before, the nasty drink around 5:00pm and nothing further late at night or early morning.

I would follow dr's orders, but that's just how I roll.

I have one scheduled for next month. My prep requires me to get up at 3am for the final dose. What I don’t understand is, why can’t it be finished before bedtime. After all, you’re not eating or drinking anything, so what difference does it make when you drink the prep?

Then we had to drive through rush hour traffic in DC. Ugh. I don’t know what to tell you OP, as I had the GoLightly meds. But a Pea recommended sucking on a lemon after each drink and it helped a lot. I’m not normally one to suck on lemons, but it really helped with the nausea. IIRC, I had to drink 16 oz every 15 minutes, 4 times for the hour, then repeat at 3 am. All that liquid in my stomach at 3 am was really nauseating! I really didn’t sleep that night, but slept about 6 hours when I got home.

After all, you’re not eating or drinking anything, so what difference does it make when you drink the prep? Is it SuPrep? I was fine starting at 4:30PM (instead of 6) and then last dose at 11:30PM (instead of 1AM). My instructions were no food for the entire day, which I did follow. I had black coffee, drank Gatorade mixed w/water, chicken bouillon, and had a couple of lemonade Italian ices. I mixed my SuPrep with Sprite Zero and chugged it. The 11:30 one was pretty bad- I couldn't leave commode for like an hour- all water- probably TMI. And I went back a few times. I think I got to bed at 1:30. Plan on staying up if you do it at 3AM, if it's his stuff.

Mine says it’s Nulytly or some such spelling. I usually try to get myself somewhat cleaned out before I have to do the prep. I hit myself with MOM a few days earlier, then live on liquids and eat very lightly. That way it’s a little less traumatic. LOL

They told me it is because your body is still producing "stuff" even after you stop eating so the second one is a "clean out " of sorts.

my pharmacist said to drink the solution through a straw. It's supposed to help reduce the nausea.

Done it a few times and like you different prep instructions etc.. my only advice is make sure it's an early time. I get miggranes if I fast too long, I almost always have one before any type of procedure. It's like a signal goes off in my brain somewhere. And I wanna throw up on the check in desk. lol! Thats happened lol! So that's my advice they always say drink the clear more. But it's hard without feeling bloated. I hope yours goes okay.. I'm glad you get it checked with history.

Just eat a handful of sugar free gummy bears. You’ll be clean as a whistle. I speak from experience. 😏

I have had more bowel preps than I care to think about. The best one BY FAR is Prepopik. Golytely and Sureprep are the devil. With Prepopik the stuff you have to drink is minimal, you don't feel like you've been run over by a truck the next day. It is pretty humane. Ask for it.
