My DD (19) Would like a weighted blanket for Christmas. She wants a throw-size, not for her bed. I've never heard of them and would appreciate feedback on best brands / types / style / where to buy. Also, how do you clean them? Thanks for any insight! Elaine

I made one for dd that she uses for sleeping. It was kinda of a pain to make, but she seems to like it. I have enough weight to make one for younger dd also, I just need the motivation, it was easy, but it wasn’t......
Dd said she sleeps with it most nights at college and it does help her sleep better.

I bought a twin size for my DGD. She loves hers. Here is the link: Melissa's weighted blankets
Some can be washed in the washer. Some people use a cover.

I just bought myself one as an early Christmas gift from me to me! I chose a teal minky cover over a 60x80 base blanket with glass beads instead of plastic. I wanted hypoallergenic glass because I can sometimes have allergy issues with plastic. While the beads are well enveloped inside the base blanket and might have been fine, I just felt reassured that glass beads wouldn’t cause me breathing problems. My asthma is really difficult to get under control right now, so why take the chance of introducing a possible issue, right?
I really like it. The cover of mine ties onto the glass-pocketed base blanket in 6 areas along the inside seams so it does not bunch up to one side, then zips closed. With the heaviness of this blanket, I am sure it would have been a nightmare to keep straight without ties inside. The outside cover can be washed in my washing machine and the base blanket can be washed in a commercial machine, but I will probably have mine dry cleaned because I don’t want to deal with a laundromat with this heavy thing. I will purchase or make a cool cotton cover for the summer. Their pamphlet says to just sleep with the weighted part alone in the summer, but I don’t want to have to clean it every week like I do a normal blanket.
I had difficulty the first few nights with mine though. I wanted the larger size and it was only bailable in the 20 lb weight. Their chart says I should buy the 15lb blanket. I didn’t think 5 pounds would make a big difference and I was more interested in the physical size. I love it now, but it felt really heavy on me at first. Well, or it possibly could have been that I had the blanket and two cats who decided they needed to sleep on my stomach adding their huge weight on top of me. My male cat weighs 20 pounds as it is. I am happy with the weight now, as long as I can keep the cats to their own spots.

We have Gravity Blankets and absolutely love them. We originally bought the 20lbs ones when they were on kickstarter. Then when they came out with the cooling ones we got 2 25lbs ones. I LOVE sleeping under it. We are headed to Cabo for 3 weeks for Christmas and I am already sad that I can't bring it.

I bought the one from Target that they had for black friday. I returned it because it was throw size,12 lbs glass beads. It had good weight, my dd liked the weight, not the size. weighted throwJennifer

There was a thread just last week about them. I'm really wanting one. They put that weighted cover on you for x-rays at the dentist and I'm so relaxed. I always tell them to leave it, and I'll take a nap. Here's the link: Weighted blankets
