My iPad died last spring, as did my desktop, so I bought a laptop to relace them both. I've missed having a tablet in the house so I bought a Fire HD10 on Cyber Monday. It just arrived. I mainly just want it for surfing the web and email, accessing my recipes, listeninig to Audible, light stuff like that. I may download a movie or two when I fly (32gb).
Before I set it up (I'm electronically stupid as $hit) are there any tips, tricks, recommendations you might have for me. Either with setting it up, or in day to day use?
Thanks a bunch!

I have the Fire 8 HD, and it's seriously idiot proof. Even I can use it. 😂
If you don't want Alexa active, you have to manually disable it through the settings.

Ok, I’m thinking about getting one for my DH for Christmas. I have read your really need to add Google Pay, for apps. They said you have to do a work around to install Google Play. Is it really necessary? My DH is really not tech savvy at all. Right now he is using his android phone to surf the net. I have an iPhone and an iPad, so android is not something I’m familiar with. I know he would love the larger screen.

I've got the Fire 8 (bought on Prime Day) and haven't had any issues with it - super easy to set up and figure out. I haven't had an app I wanted not be in the Amazon App store. I mostly use mine for reading and watching movies.

I love mine. Use it for social media, reading and games. As previously noted, they are pretty much idiot proof. I disabled Alexis easily.

Trust me I don't know anything about Google Pay, but I can't imagine it is any more difficult to install.

I've had a fire for ages and find it really portable.
I have prime and have downloaded a few movies/tv series etc on to the device for those times I'm stuck waiting for dd to finish training.
I prefer the fire to the kindle for reading cook books/magazines, the colour pictures add a lot to the experience but I prefer my kindle for reading novels. That's just me, it's completely possible to read on the fire, it just a personal preference.
Camera, music, games, lots of great features. DH, who has a laptop, has often said he should have bought a fire.

That's just me, it's completely possible to read on the fire, it just a personal preference. I have a paperwhite and a Kindle Fire 8. The blue shade feature doesn't bother my eyes at all when I'm reading in the dark. I prefer the Kindle 8 for reading unless I'm going to be traveling in the car then the paperwhite because there's less glare. I read a lot of historical fiction and I like to look up things that are mentioned. The paperwhite search feature is terrible. I also love you can zoom in on photos. When you have a Kindle Fire 8, there's games that you can play unlimited (don't have to wait for new lives). That may or may not be why I was very sad my Kindle Fire 7 died.

I have a question. Is there a way to save a shortcut to each ofmy favorite websites into my home screen? I can't seem to figure it out. Thanks!

When you have your browser open, you can press the bookmark button, then "pin to my favorites." For websites that offer an app, like Pinterest, you just download the app from their website or Amazon app store, and it will be on your open screen.

If your DH is not very tech savvy, I would suggest getting him a Samsung instead of a Fire.

I cracked the screen on one, one wore out (the original), I've upgraded a couple times. Bought a couple as gifts and then I have the one I haven't even used yet!

I have a question. Is there a way to save a shortcut to each ofmy favorite websites into my home screen? I can't seem to figure it out. Thanks! I use Silk, but I can just click on the little flag/banner thing at the top right and then click add to favorites. When I open a new tab I get the screen with my favorites icons and can just go where I need to go.
