Now I’m starting to worry that 12x12 kits will start disappearing left and right!
Just got this email. ************************
Changes for Cocoa Daisy
It is with a heavy heart that I have made the decision to discontinue the production of our 12x12 Memory Keeping kit, Cocoa Daisy Paper Add On and Coordinating Paper Add On after the Paper & Ink kits, shipping this month.
When I first took over Cocoa Daisy, the 12x12 kit was the only kit we offered. As time progressed we have added more options and more kits to our line up; currently I curate 7 kits filled with custom product, each and every month. I’ve always believed that to do my job well and to give my customers the best, I have to have a passion for what I do and the product that I create. I’m finding my attention and creative passions being drawn more toward Memory Keeping in our Simple Dori; for the first time in a long time I have the desire to be in my craft room every day and record our daily memories in this format. I’m so excited about this new way of memory keeping, and I have so many ideas I want to share.
However, I know my energies are limited, and at this point I feel I can better serve our Cocoa Daisy customers and share those ideas if my focus is less divided. By shifting my attention and energy from the 12x12 Memory Keeping kit I’ll have the time to create, share and present new ideas on how to preserve your memories in this new and simple format. We won’t be totally leaving our 12x12 Memory Keepers behind; our team is looking forward to showing you ways to use the Traveler’s Notebook Memory Keeping product on 12x12 layouts, even though the papers are not 6x8.25".
I want to thank all of our customers that have enjoyed and created with our 12x12 kits over the years and I hope you understand how hard this decision was to make. I also hope that a lot of you currently Memory Keeping in a 12x12 format give the Traveler’s Notebook Memory Keeping kit a try and join me in this new creative journey.
Best wishes,

So they’ll have pocket and traveler’s notebook?
I love my TN, but I use it as a notebook or sketchbook. It’s not where I keep my memory keeping. I do feel like the treatment of TNs as scrapbooks will fade as a trend at some point.

I started with CD when it first began. I then moved on with the trend to using Traveller Notebooks and tried to use it for memory keeping. While I did enjoy using the kits and the inserts it was not how I wanted to make my scrapbooks. The TN format is great for December Dailies or for mini books but there is no protection for the future.

I honestly think 12x12 is falling out is the size, it’s probanly more expensive to print the larger format than a smaller paper. I have no intentions of using a tn for my memory keeping. It’s enpigh that I added pocket pages to my scrapping. I’m not doing anything but that and regular 12x12.

I was surprised to read this. My TN is never far from reach, but I use mine as a bullet journal and regular journal, not for memory keeping. (Though I guess some would argue that a journal is a memory keeper, I suppose! But mine is more of the "dear diary" style, and rarely includes photo.) I would document a trip in a TN, no problem...it'd be quick and easy to put in wallet photos from my photo printer, add in tickets and brochures, etc. I can't imagine documenting a baby's first year, or a wedding, etc. in a TN.
But of course CD wouldn't move in this direction if it (the 12x12 kit) was bringing in a lot of profit. So a lot of people must be moving away from the 12x12 kits, at least from CD.

I’ve thought about using a TN for scrapping but I’m way too in love with embellishments, die cuts, and stamps. All that fun stuff just doesn’t fit well on those narrow pages. It’s too bad CD has decided to eliminate their 12x12 kits though. Interesting since when I checked their Black Friday sale all of their past memory kits were sold out so it’s not like they aren’t selling well. I don’t know, maybe it’s a cost issue since most of their papers are exclusives.

Their focus seemed to be on planners lately, so I’m not too surprised.
I never thought I would quit 12x12, but I only create those layouts now to fill gaps in older albums. My new scrapbooks are all 9x12 pocket page albums. I also never thought I would get into using travelers notebooks, yet here I am starting my 4th one this year for my December journal. The last 12x12 paper pad I bought was quickly cut up into card fronts.
I just cancelled my CD pocket kit subscription to focus more on journaling. Plus all of the product I have from 1 year will probably last for 3. I might go for the TN kit at some point, because I really love the CD style.
Times change, but still it’s a little sad.

I think 12x12 isn't as popular these days. I think in 6-12 months these TN subs are going to transition to some sort of small hybrid. Offer the TN as an add-on. Have 6x8.5 papers for the smaller pocket scrapbooks as well.

I agree that TN is just a fad and I am kind of surprised to hear that they are ending the 12x12 kit too. I wonder if the ever increasing postage costs are catching up with them too. It is so expensive to get packages shipped and rates are going up again in January. I imagine it is much cheaper and less cost prohibitive for people to ship and purchase TN and pocket kits.

I don't understand why companies are doing away with tried and true in favor of fads. I also don't think a profitable business strategy is giving up on things your customers want (given it all sells out every single month) because it's not of interest to you any longer. With an ever shrinking industry, it just seems like poor judgment to shut production down on something that is successful because you don't know how long you will be the hottest thing on the market (just ask Studio Calico).

I don't subscribe to CD, but I don't get it either. Freckled Fawn now only sells traveler's notebook-sized paper and I am just not interested in that size... or scrapping on a rectangle.
Now if someone would start selling stuff for 10 by 10 pages, I'd be the first in line...

Wow, I'm really surprised. I've never shopped with CD but from what I understand - their kits are highly sought after.

I attend 2-3 crops per year and 90% of the attendees scrap traditional 12x12 with multiple photos per page. If we only follow the newest trends in kit clubs I would believe everyone has chucked 12x12 for planners, TN, and Project Life. That’s not what I see out in the wild.

I don’t even know anyone who does PL in real life.

I think it's very short sighted but CD seems to have really focussed on the planner/TN products lately. I scrap 9x12 but still buy 12x12 paper as I prefer to do full page layouts rather than pocket scrapping. The postage for 12x12 is a killer though, so maybe that's part of the reason.

I think Annie’s figured it out. I think it’s the shipping. It really makes a difference. Though I cannot for the life of me figure out why kit clubs aren’t taking advantage of the FREE priority mailers from usps-if it fits it ships. All the custom packaging is such a huuuuuge waste as mine goes right into the dumpster the day I get it. Paper issues uses the priority boxes and stamps on it “you have issues!” Which I think is plenty. Why tf does the shipping box need to be so cutesy?

I feel like from the email, it’s all I don’t like 12x12 and I’m so excited by this new size etc
I want 12x12. I use both 12x12 and pl, so now my cd kits can only be used in pl only layouts which are usually my not so great photos layouts, I’m totally disapointed and I will probably drop my pl kit when I’m out of my subscription time

It doesn’t seem like a good business decision to abandon loyal clients. Everything is already designed, so how much more difficult is it to print and package the different size. I’m disappointed for you!

The other thing that doesn’t make sense is the 12x12 papers are the only ones big enough to make covers for all of the notebook planners. The TN is the only one comes with larger paper, but not the same pretty paper as the 12x12 kit. For the January kit, the floral paper is the show-stopper, and none of the planners come with it. Weird. I purchased the smaller size notebook for my December journal so the paper would fit, but normally I would use a standard size. That’s a pretty big oversight IMO.

I got a little obsessed with Cocoa Daisy a few months ago and stalked their shop for a while and honestly I had no idea that they were a 12x12" scrapbook company first - everything was so planner and notebook focused, I never really noticed the scrapbook kit. So in that sense I'm not surprised by this at all.
It does sound like personal preference was a big part of the decision, which seems a little shortsighted (although as a one-woman business I also make plenty of decisions based on what I *want* to do more than what I *should* do). But shipping anything with a dimension longer than 12" is considerably more expensive, so I feel like that probably played a part in the decision too. It had to cut into the bottom line, or maybe put some people off, to pay extra for shipping full size papers.

That was a first for me. I always have wondered if it’s a self selection thing that more traditional scrapbookers attend crops. I have no scrapping friends IRL nor is there a nearby store. I buy everything online and my community is online — and I do mostly PL with a few 6x8 or 9x12 pages here and there. It always seemed as though in person crops were certainly more 12x12!

I was surprised to see this email, but since I joined Cocoa Daisy for the project life cards and got the 12x12 to supplement the project life, I’m okay with switching over to the travelers notebook kit, although I don’t know what I’m going to do with the actual travelers notebook part of it. I’ll try it out and see how it goes. Maybe I can rip pages out of the travelers notebook to implement into my regular scrapbooking.
In a way, although it sounds kind of silly, I am just a tad relieved that the 12x12 is going away because the papers were so pretty that I wanted to scrapbook 12x12 with the really pretty papers and not use them in the project life or cut them up because they were too nice and that meant that all the other collections that I bought were going by the wayside because I have a strange obsession to use up every little piece of the Cocoa Daisy kits and it was taking away from some of the other supplies that I have bought, so this will allow me to move on to other non-Cocoa Daisy collections.
